House Impeachment Inquiry

So I heard a quite snippet on the radio just now that Trump is being denied due process that Nixon and Bill Clinton were given. Any right wingers here want to expound on what is meant by that exactly? I'm genuinely curious.

A bunch of right-wing news outlets and twitterers are claiming to have identified the whistleblower, including the person's name.

I won't bother linking to the name, as it is not yet confirmed and they might just be hounding the wrong person. I would not want to contribute to that. Time will tell, I suppose.

And someone here has already started a thread with the name in the title.

Ivanka Tweeted, quoting Thomas Jefferson and comparing her father to him.

"…surrounded by enemies and spies catching and perverting every word that falls from my lips or flows from my pen, and inventing where facts fail them.” -Thomas Jefferson’s reflections on Washington, D.C. in a letter to his daughter Martha.
Some things never change, dad!

It's simply NOT TRUE. But this is the Republican method these days. Lie until you get caught and then lie some more.

As of October 19th the New York Times reported* that:

227 Democrats have publicly supported or spoken out in support of the Impeachment proceeding.

0 Republicans have publicly supported or spoken out in support of the Impeachment proceeding.

1 Independent has publicly supported or spoken out in support of the Impeachment proceeding.

8 Democrats have spoken out against the Impeachment Proceeding.

14 Republicans has basically said nothing.

The entire list, complete with their actual verbatim comments, are available in the link.

How do you say “Trump uber alles” in Russian?

Republicans may believe that this is their last presidency. It seems like the only reason they would continue supporting him and his ********. At this point, with the evidence available, Republicans should be lining up in front of the White House to tell this mass of evil goo to resign.

Republicans may believe that this is their last presidency.

There's a lot of truth to this statement. I honestly think there's more truth to it than most believe.

If Florida, Texas and\or Ohio become solidly Democrat it could be extremely complicated for another GOP POTUS ever again. Beto had Texas leaning, but I doubt they'll flip in the next 2 elections, but it seems to be trending that way. With Trump pissing off a ton of young folk in Florida that will now have the ability to vote...it could get touchy there too. I'm really looking forward to this next election.

Yeas and Nays, sir. :p

I respect the fact that even two Democrats went against the party line and voted Nay. (I don't know why they did.)

But every single Republican not acknowledging the crimes of our President is reprehensible.
What makes it reprehensible to my mind is that every time they support him in his clear-cut abuse of power, they are giving him tacit permission to do even worse.

And tacit permission for a future president to do the same. Of course we all know that if a Dem president did this, they'd be screaming for his head at the top of their lungs

It's that whole "You can't even to investigate the President until you've already totally and completely across the board proven wrong doing" thing the Trumpers have gotten stuck on.
Well, that and they are pretending asking Zelensky to create some dirt on Biden wasn't a crime.

Then there is the request Zelensky find evidence for Trump's CT that Putin didn't help him get elected, the DNC released their own emails. I suspect that one may require the pro quo whereas the first one is illegal without the pro quo.

And holding up aid Congress authorized looks illegal on its face.

So it's not about proven wrong-doing, it's about gaslighting that said wrong-doing wasn't wrong.

...

ETA: Trump hadn't even mentioned any company before Zelensky's response. He had just said someone had stopped "the prosecution" in a context that made it seem Hunter Biden was the target of a prosecution. That Zelensky knew immediately that this was a case involving Burisma does show that he was familiar with the issue and the obvious conclusion is that the US had raised the issue previously.
I think this is a stretch. Hunter Biden wasn't ever under investigation. If Zelenski knew Trump was interested in investigating Hunter or Burisma, he had to have heard it from Trump or his minions earlier.

Timeline.

Before Zelenski
April 16, 2014 – U.K. investigates Burisma owner Mykola Zlochevskiy

They needed evidence from Ukraine and the then 'corrupt' prosecutor would not release it.
“We are disappointed we were not provided with the evidence by authorities in the Ukraine necessary to keep this restraint order in place.” ...

In September 2015, U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine Geoffrey Pyatt heavily criticizes officials in the Office of Prosecutor General in a public speech for not cooperating sufficiently with and even undermining the British investigation.

May 12, 2014 – Burisma Holdings issues a press release saying Hunter Biden has joined its board,

Oct. 14, 2014 – Ramping up Ukraine anti-corruption forces

Ukraine’s Parliament passes a law establishing the National Anti-Corruption Bureau (NABU), a priority of anti-corruption campaigners who’d helped lead the revolution and of the U.S. government (led by [Joe] Biden) and other international backers of Ukraine.

The country’s anti-corruption plans also include a special High Anti-Corruption Court, which Poroshenko and Parliament slow-rolled until domestic and foreign advocates again exerted pressure over the past year. In fact, the U.S. and Europe required the Ukrainian government to fund NABU in exchange for financial aid.

Feb. 10, 2015 – Viktor Shokin takes office as Ukraine’s prosecutor general, replacing Yarema.

That was the result of Joe Biden (and others) intervention. It had ZERO to do with Hunter Biden being under investigation by anyone.
Now you can argue Burisma hired Hunter in hopes of having influence over Obama or Joe**, but Hunter still was not under investigation. Joe Biden (with help) got the prosecutor ousted that was the goal, again, nothing to do with Hunter.

**Which I find despicable for reasons it looks corrupt even if it wasn't.

And he takes them up on it. Mueller Report was quashed and here we are with Trump attempting to corrupt the 2020 election.
