RealClearInvestigations is disclosing the name because of the public’s interest in learning details of an effort to remove a sitting president from office. Further, the official's status as a “whistleblower” is complicated by his being a hearsay reporter of accusations against the president, one who has “some indicia of an arguable political bias … in favor of a rival political candidate"

Well the Trumpers can start the campaign of terror against him, as is the plan.

If I'm working on a client's PC and I find child porn. I will report that to the authorities.

If he turns out to be a political figure with far right leanings it in no way, shape or form means that I reported him because I'm a Democrat. It's complete and total ********.

People can do their job AND have political bias at the same time. It's not a "one or the other" type of scenario. We've read the transcript, we've heard the witnesses, we've read their statements for ourselves. The fact that the call has been confirmed by so many sources to be completely factual (and evidence of a quid pro quo), and the president has all but admitted it, means that his bias is completely and entirely irrelevant.

"We won't listen to anyone who is biased against Trump. Also not liking Trump counts as bias."

I'm sure Trump will backhandedly order his followers to deal with this guy by the end of the day.

If the whistle-blower was the love child of Hillary Clinton and "Eric Hoteham", the facts would be no less damning for Trump, and his identity would be no more relevant.

Total bollocks. Everything that the whistleblower reported has been thoroughly confirmed by others including those with direct first hand knowledge, not to mention the released summary of the call. There is only one purpose of outing him and that is demonization and possibly exacting revenge on someone doing his patriotic duty.

Yeah it's like we have Whistleblower protection laws for a reason or something.

You are still a whistleblower if you have a grudge. Deep throat (technically not a whistle blower?) wasn't neutral.

Thank goodness we still have some people in the Government who's bias is against the criminal currently holding the office of POTUS. Else, we might never know as much about his malfeasance as we do after the actions of this brave man.

A pity for the people of North Korea that they have so few members of their government with a bias against Kim Jong Un.

I know that certain posters are really, really fond of counts -- even after said counts have been rendered preposterous, but I digress. Later today I'll tally up the whistle-blowers, official and otherwise, for our mutual entertainment.

The only people who are allowed to blow the whistle on Trump are Republicans.

Except if they're "Never-Trumper" Republicans. Which they are, if they blow the whistle on Trump. Only Republicans who don't blow the whistle on Trump are allowed to blow the whistle on Trump.

I thinks journalists are allowed to disclose whistleblowers?

Whether they are or not doesn't necessarily mean they should.

This is the one and only comment I'm giving before you inevitably try to suck this down some pedantic, ethical, verbal slapfest.
