SNP obviously want to be kingmakers so they get their 2nd referendum. Pity they can't think about anyone but themselves.

I think UK should hold a referendum to decide whether or not have early elections or a second Brexit referendum.

You need to keep up the trainwreck theme.

After Brexit, in order to better represent their true value, 50p coins should be replaced by small thin aluminium discs, stamped merely with the words "**** all"

But think how much money the spivs will have made shorting the Pound!

I wonder if, in the event of an England victory in the Rugby World Cup, the government will make some kind of announcement about how great the team is, conveniently overlooking the proportion of the team born overseas and/or born to first generation immigrants.

I wonder if they will remember that they govern more than England? Actually, I don't wonder, I know what the answer to that is.

IIRC Theresa May considered the England and Wales Cricket Board team's victory in the Cricket World Cup to be a British victory, I'm sure her successor will be equally tone deaf. ;)

Do you think Rees-Mogg remembers this tweet?

If we don't leave the EU by 31st October there will be no Conservative Party left. Only @BorisJohnson has the intellect and breadth to do this. Join the team at http://backboris.com #BackBoris

Darat is suggesting that the SNP would support the Conservatives' request for a general election if the Conservatives would in turn allow the SNP a second independence referendum.

If true, that sounds like a sensible approach to me. The SNP is a nationalist party and Brexit represents a great opportunity for a successful independence vote, especially if the Scots can obtain a commitment from the EU for expedited EU membership post-Brexit.

There may be a significant number of people who may not be ardent nationalists but who would accept independence as an acceptable price for continued EU membership and this, combined with the increasingly offhand way in which the government is treating non-English parts of the UK, IMO makes a successful independence vote likely.

I suspect he only remembers what he chooses to remember.

Even under our current stupid and incompetent politicians, I don't see why the UK would sign up for a trade deal that makes it worse off than not having a trade deal. So, assuming for the sake of argument that the £27 billion extra on drugs is true, what are the compensating reductions in costs that are greater than £27 billion?

If you have convinced a load of people who don't understand international trade and negotiating balances of power that you can get better trade deals out of the EU, then what ever trade deals you get, you simply label them 'better' and they will lap it up. It is all about the quantity not the quality once we are out. The brexiteer parakeets will regurgitate what ever **** the ERG throw at them.

Especially if the key to it all is to ensure a complete lack of understanding of the current benefits of EU membership. Our current trade deals are "bad" because they have been negotiated by the EU and therefore favour the interests of Estonian cheese-herders over those of the UK. Once free of the yoke of Estonian oppression, the UK will be free to negotiate deals which favour its own interests.

Of course this completely ignores the fact that UK interests align with EU interests in the vast majority of cases, that the UK has always wielded considerable influence in EU affairs and that the EU is a much bigger, and hence more effective, negotiating block than the UK alone.

In this fight, it is everyone for themselves and in the SNPs case, themselves is Scotland, which voted to remain. They are fighting for the will of the people, the majority, as democracy dictates.

I've seen a Brexiteer on Quora claiming the opposite, that smaller nations find it easier to broker good deals, because no one is afraid to open up their market to a small country. He was (is?) convinced UK would do much better as a result.

I asked him how small is small enough, seeing as UK is still the sixth largest economy in the world and all that. He blocked me in response.

There's another good reason to favour trade with the EU over trade with anybody else - they're a lot closer. That's important for any perishable goods, and for if you care about how much you have to pay for shipping.

Yeah, I don't blame Scotland at all. If I were Scotland I'd definitely be looking for a second referendum on independence from the UK. The first referendum was predicated on the UK staying in the EU. If that changes, so do the circumstances of Scottish independence.

That's yet another reason why I'm against Brexit. Without Scotland's left-leaning votes, the Tories will have control of the UK in perpetuity. It'd be very, very difficult to prevent them from getting a majority, let alone any other party getting one.
