The Trump Presidency: Part 17

Enemy leaders are legitimate targets in a war situation, and both Bin Ladin and Baghdadi were self confessed enemies of the United States.

I find Norman's whole thesis this was some kind of rogue operation to be silly.
No, please. Not a "rogue operation". Just a very poorly run one at the administrative end. So poor that they failed to follow the extant US law on such an op. I have no doubt those who they SHOULD have advised would have maintained secrecy and would not have objected. The op could have run just the same, with the same result.

The only reason they didn't follow the US law was they wanted an exclusive "good Trump story" distraction from the current swamp he is bogging himself in. And also to pwn the Libs and Dems. A PR coup. Which is what Trump started crowing about immediately.

What a pity they forgot to cross the i's and dot the t's, though. Failure to follow the law, screwed up time-line for Trump being at the WH when it happened, fake photo op, fake story by Trump... What could have been a bit of a come-back sunk by piss-poor planning and execution. A typical Trump-team effort, to be frank.

Trump's inferiority complex in regards to Obama is palpable. The more he tries to tear Obama down, the more he just confirms what he is: a lying, classless, ignorant, fool without an ounce of dignity.

The smart thing for Trump to do is just stop comparing himself to and tearing down Obama. But then, the operative word there is "smart".

"Smart" and "Trump" are never used in the same sentence. That is unless the sentence is uttered by Trump himself.

The log shows he didn't get to the White House until after 16:30. That was 90 minutes after the raid officially launched. I'm willing to bet such surgical insurgencies would done and dusted in only minutes. Hanging around to take happy snaps and party only gets you shot at, which is unhealthy.

Actually the special forces team stayed on the ground for two hours. We know this because President Trump publicly announced it. Some military analysts believe that giving away information like that makes future raids more dangerous. President Lunkhead does it again.

D’oh. I’m an idiot.

The only reason President Trump said the raid took two hours was to squash stories that the situation room photo was staged. No military spokesperson is going to correct the president when he is talking about a classified mission.

FFS. Can we put an adult in the White House?

I think you are correct. The takeaway from this is just how casually Trump breaks the law whenever he sees an advantage for himself. The law means nothing to him. Just look at his previous life. From Trump University down.

The American people have spoken. They want a petty minded, xenophobic, vindictive charlatan.

Trump gets the credit because he gave the go-ahead. If the operation had gone south, then he would've taken full responsibility (like the one in Yemen at the beginning of his term, even though that was entirely the fault of the generals). Besides, if Trump refuses to take responsibility, then he's engaging in a 256D psychological chess with terrorists abroad. Or something.

But it was illegal, in the sense that there are quite specific US laws they are required to follow in such circumstances but didn't.

That does NOT mean the slippery slope inverse argument that I like al-Baghdadi and wish he was alive again. The scum is dead. That result is fine by me. I just wish Trump had played inside the lines, then I would have acknowledged he did something right (for a change).

But this is a typical Trump maneuver. He will ignore the law if it is convenient for him to do so and no-one pulls him up on it and people cheer the results. The problem is: Just how far does the USA let him go before they realise how lawless he actually is? Where is the line?

What specific laws do you have in mind? Far as I know, the president is not legally required to notify the gang of eight, for instance. Which laws do you think have been violated?

The Washington Post gives an account of the raid that suggests the helicopters landed at the site around 5:00pm. I don't know their sources. Are you positive that they were supposed to have landed earlier?

I noticed that while they aren't contradicting him, they aren't confirming him either.

Trump's visit to Chicago succeeded in making CPD look worse. Aside from his usual ramblings about how terrible the city is, how a guy on a motorcycle told him he could solve all crime, how he hates the local politicians, and so on, the crux of the matter is this:

Trump also discussed how his administration had "curtailed the harmful and intrusive use of federal consent decrees” forcing reforms to local policing.

“No longer will federal bureaucrats micromanage your police departments,” Trump said to the applause of officers.

Chicago has such a federal consent decree in place, after former Mayor Rahm Emanuel and onetime Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan agreed to federal court oversight of police reforms in Chicago. That came after former President Barack Obama’s Justice Department found a pattern of misconduct and excessive force within the Chicago Police Department.

Linky.

I weep for our country because of what Adam Schiff, Nancy Pelosi and the Democrats are doing to our President.
May I add, I’m mad as hell and I’m not going to take it anymore.
How about you?

Crooked Impeachment Witness Bill Taylor Led Ukraine Delegation for Group Advised by Hunter Biden. Taylor also initiated fake "contemporaneous" texts & cables in both the Firtash case & in support of the Trump WB hoax.

That George Soros is a tricky bastard, buying all the seats to the ball game and filling it with paid protesters.

Trump gets the credit because he gave the go-ahead.

Do we know he gave the go-ahead for this specific operation? Or just a general "go find the guy" order?

Because if so, when did he do it? It really seems weird that he would say, "Yeah, get him, I'm going to golf for a while. I'll be back when it gets interesting."
