Greta Thunberg - brave campaigner or deeply disturbed?

Iowa teacher on "administrative leave" after sniper-rifle joke

The District said Matt Baish has been placed on administrative leave as it investigates the comment. Baish is listed as a science teacher at Waterloo West High School.

In a post on Facebook regarding Thunberg's visit, Baish had commented: "Don't have my sniper rifle".

Iowa City police say they will have heightened security at Friday's event. Thunberg is scheduled to speak at a climate march at noon in downtown Iowa City.

Worth noting that this man is a high school teacher, meaning Greta is the same age as the students he teaches; and he thinks it's okay to make jokes about killing kids this age with sniper rifles.

Yet people here are saying Greta is doing things that don’t require courage. I wonder how many of them have had death threats?

:D:thumbsup:

There's another good piece in today's Guardian.
I was cynical about Greta Thunberg’s voyage, but she’s upsetting all the right people
It's wonderful to see the terror she's causing amongst the rightist nuts.
The most compelling argument in support of Thunberg is that she is upsetting twats. Dinesh D’Souza, the far-right filmmaker, compared an image of her with her hair in plaits to Nazi propaganda. Middle-aged men on the right have been denouncing her as a tool of the left, and claiming that she should have more respect when speaking to world leaders. My own TV profile has left me open to a lot of trolling on social media, which can become tiring and frustrating. But this is just a fraction of what Thunberg has received, and not gradually, over time: she has exploded into the public consciousness. She gets horrendous comments about her Asperger’s, for example, rather than: “Why is this unfunny gimp on everything?”

The bulk of the objections to Thunberg's activities are just variations on the old "crisis actor" hand-wave that right-wingers are so inordinately fond of these days.
Well they haven't got much else, have they? The science is settled, despite the desperate denials.

I didn't say the world would end in 11 years

That is something EHocking made up
True you said we would all die not that the world would end:

"...We will all be doomed to die in 11 years

Greta told us..."

Your lies are clear for anyone to see.

I know this has become a meme

But you do realise doomed to die in 11 years means after 11 years we are doomed to die no matter what?

Hence the word doomed and not dead

A question Darat

Do you think if no one does anything the human race is doomed once Greta's 11 year period is over

Yes/No

Yeah but the problem is "doomed to die" is wording you invented.

Your childish nonsense; attempting to portray concern for the environment, and Thurnberg's activism as some sort of mindless, unthinkable cult rather than scientifically supported projections of the near future.
