The Trump Presidency: Part 17

Ah, that's comparing the official numbers.

The U.S. uses U-3 for their official number while Canada uses U-6.

U-6 unemployment in the U.S. is actually 6.9%

Labor force participation numbers are also a couple points higher in Canada. It was similar until the 2008 recession. The US was hit harder and to me it looks like the major difference is that a lot of the people that left the US labor market never returned.

It doesn't matter. Trump can say he has the lowest unemployment numbers in decades, especially in the swing states, without technically lying.

The Democrats will counter with well thought out, detailed, and perfectly true, honest, and accurate and completely relevant discussion of under employment, how people dropping out of even looking for a job can affect those numbers, wage stagnation, wage inequality, increasing rental and mortgage prices, inflation, and the price of tea in China.

Trump wins. He has a "technically correct" soundbite, they have complex truth.

Mitt Romney Tweets

When the only American citizen President Trump singles out for China’s investigation is his political opponent in the midst of the Democratic nomination process, it strains credulity to suggest that it is anything other than politically motivated.

By all appearances, the President’s brazen and unprecedented appeal to China and to Ukraine to investigate Joe Biden is wrong and appalling.

I think Romney just made Donnie's S..t list.

Imagine a circumstance where China announces We've conducted an investigation into the Bidens and there was no wrongdoing. The odds that Trump would instantly dismiss the finding are on par with death and taxes.

I love America as much as every gun toting, gay hating, religious whackadoodle who ever dragged a flag from the back of his pickup.

More. Those clowns only love an America that never existed.

Can someone explain U-3 and U-6 to me?

Put in the simplest terms I can muster, U-3 is "hard" unemployment in terms of people actively seeking work but not finding it.

U-6 includes those who are underemployed, have become discouraged and stopped actively seeking work, gone back to school, become disabled, and so generally shows the "under-utilization of labor" that could have otherwise been available.

I have a feeling these forums just reinforced opinions you had anyway.

Your feeling is quite wrong. Over my 66 years of life I have spent a lot of time in the US. I even lived there for 2 six month periods and when we were much younger we seriously considered permanent residence. I have inherited American relatives through my wife and have a number of American friends. My wife was born in Portland OR. My opinions of conditions in the US for most of my life were much, much different than they are now, and much more naive. I believe that this was due to exposure to a very small and close group of Americans. My readings on this forum have provided a different exposure to social and political conditions in the US from a much wider range of opinions than I would ever have discovered from just talking to my friends and relatives. This forum has definitely provided much evidence to justify my changed opinion.

Not really. Manufacturing as a sector is already in recession. Mining was mostly unchanged as a sector. Those swing states are getting hit by the trade war already. In Pennsylvania and Michigan record unemployment won't fly with Obama voters who went with Trump in 2016. When you don't have a job, your unemployment rate is 100 percent.

WOW, this is big stuff!

Since the ICIG has no evidence whatsoever about the relationship and contacts between the whistleblower and Schiff’s staff, the investigation has to get that information from other fact witnesses. Who also happen to be running the investigation.

Under my Administration, Medicare Advantage premiums next year will be their lowest in the last 13 years. We are providing GREAT healthcare to our Seniors. We cannot let the radical socialists take that away through Medicare for All!

I have just officially nominated Poland for entry into the Visa Waiver Program. With this decades long-awaited announcement, we are in the final steps of the process which, when complete, would grant Polish nationals visa-free business and tourism travel to the U.S. & vice versa.

“When your making an unsubstantiated charge that the President of the United States is making a request having to do with quid pro quo, this witness has blown a big hole into that statement. The Ambassador put a dagger in the heart of Schiffs fairytale.” Rep. Lee Zeldin

I’m confused, how would Medicare for “All” be taking away medicare?

Maybe the two plans are different. Is there a "plan" for medicare for all or is it just an idea? Will Medicare for all raise taxes? That would be a difference.

Not defending Trump, I'm sick of him too.

I think it's republican logic (using that word very loosely). It's sort of like how letting gay people get married would ruin marriage for heterosexuals. Nobody can explain why that would happen, they just expect you to believe it will.

“Adam Schiff’s connection to the Whistleblower is coming to light.” @FoxNewsThese facts, and others, make it impossible for the ridiculous impeachment “scam” to go forward! Schiff has also committed a crime, perhaps treason, in making up a horrible statement and reading....

....it to Congress, and the American people, as though it was the statement of the President of the United States, me. He did it to fool Congress and the public in order to make me look BAD. He is a sick puppy!

LYIN’ SHIFTY SCHIFF!

Problem is except for his brain dead base, Trump accusing somebody else of lying just makes people l augh.

It's one thing to be intellectually honest and own up to our mistakes.

How have you handled that?

How many wars did Obama withdraw USA from? What measures did he take to end disparity and inequality? What measures did he take to even slow gun deaths?

From what I see, America has two sides, and one is marginally worse than the other, but both are blind to what it's doing to the rest of the world. If there are so many patriotic, non-gun-toting liberals in USA, why have you allowed USA to act exactly as Trump is for the past 50 years?

It's another to bury your head up the ass of a lying corrupt POS who says America doesn't make mistakes.

This is the country that withdrew from jurisdiction of the International Criminal Court. Doesn't make mistakes/refuse to own up to them?

What's the difference?

Which of the murderers caught on camera executing a Reuters crew served jail time was even charged for the most gutless murder ever recorded on film?

You want to argue that America doesn't deserve that piece of orange **** in the White House? Go ahead, but as far as most of the rest of the English-speaking world is concerned, you're merely getting a taste of your own medicine.

Every point? Nonsense.

But that was a fair sample.

I'm finding it hard to think of a single criticism of USA that hasn't been amplified by Trump. If you have one, toss me a bone!

I'm really not sure what your point is.

America has made mistakes in its dealings with other nations and with its own citizens. Saying that doesn't mean I hate America. Obama certainly made mistakes as did the last fifteen Presidents at least. People make mistakes and so do governments.

I love this country. That doesn't mean I like all of its goverment policies. I was on the Debate/Speech team in high school and in college. I use to give a speech about Loving America. Loving America does not mean hating Americans. It also means being ok with differences. Being ok with different lifestyles, different races and differences of opinions.

"My way or the highway is not American" and neither is "America, love it or leave it". Our strength is our diversity and willingness to accept change as opposed to goose stepping to some authority.
