The Trump Presidency: Part 17

Trump Tweets...Breaking News: Unemployment Rate, at 3.5%, drops to a 50 YEAR LOW. Wow America, lets impeach your President (even though he did nothing wrong!).
What he doesn't tell you:
Businesses have added an average of just 119,000 jobs a month for the past three months, the smallest three-month gain in seven years. The weakest sector of the economy _ manufacturing, which is likely already in recession _ cut 2,000 jobs in September. At the same time, retailers shed 11,400 jobs, and employment in mining and logging was unchanged. PBS Newshour
Some other information from that article:

- Average hourly wages slipped slightly
- Overseas demands for American products has fallen

If, on top of the impeachment proceeding, the economy begins to falter...Trump may have the Mother of All Meltdowns.

How can he top the last week?

On second thought, don't tell me. I don't want to know.

At this point if this whole thing doesn't end with Trump standing on the roof of the White House in a raging thunderstorm holding Greta Thurnburg hostage at gunpoint with a dozen SWAT laser sights focused on him screaming for a suitcase full of unmarked bills and a chopper with enough fuel to get him to a non-extradition country it's gonna feel anti-climactic.

Stick an extra 'c' in the final word and I'll nominate that post ;)

Trump Tweets

The Whistleblower, who had the facts wrong about the phone call, reached out, and more, to the Democrat controlled House Intelligence Committee. Schiff never told us about this!

He says this over and over but he never, not even for a moment, says precisely what facts were wrong.

What he doesn't tell you:

Something else he doesn't tell you is that the number of people not even looking for jobs is still very large.

That may or may not be an issue. It depends on why the people have stopped looking for jobs.

Yes, people who want a job but have just "given up" are an issue. But people who have simply retired, or are students would contribute to the "not looking for jobs" statistic, but its not really a problem. Given the fact that many baby boomers are now retiring, I think some increase in the "not looking for work" statistic might increase naturally.

Of course, we could point out the hypocrisy of Trump quoting the unemployment rate, when during the 2016 election he claimed that "he heard" the real unemployment rate was much higher that the normally quoted statistic.

I have learned on these forums over the years that very little - politics, health care, police forces, the judicial system, accessibility of guns, safety in schools, racial equality, etc., actually works in America. Their speshulness is generally not good for their own citizens, and those citizens have no power to do anything about it.

I have a feeling these forums just reinforced opinions you had anyway.

And that is another reason I hate Trump. He has empowered a lot of people overseas who ,even before he took office, hated America.

Or is it just that he's confirming every point America-haters ever made?

International bully now has a bully as President.
Country that ignores international laws has a President who ignores the country's laws.
Swearing an allegiance to the flag and god every day results in theocratic nationalism.

Just a sample.

That is speculation on your part. It’s difficult to prove directly whether this is just normal population aging, I’d say it’s probably not the only factor.

Using Canada as a point of comparison. Canada has similar population demographics wrt age so if it were purely age related the labour market participation numbers would be similar as well. Instead, what we find is that Canada 62.0% of the population is employed vs 60.7% of the population in the US. In spite of the higher employment rates, the headline unemployment number in Canada is also higher at 5.7% in Canada vs 3.5% in the US.

Mitt Romney Tweets

When the only American citizen President Trump singles out for China’s investigation is his political opponent in the midst of the Democratic nomination process, it strains credulity to suggest that it is anything other than politically motivated.

By all appearances, the President’s brazen and unprecedented appeal to China and to Ukraine to investigate Joe Biden is wrong and appalling.

What a diaper load.

I love America as much as every gun toting, gay hating, religious whackadoodle who ever dragged a flag from the back of his pickup.

It's one thing to be intellectually honest and own up to our mistakes. It's another to bury your head up the ass of a lying corrupt POS who says America doesn't make mistakes.

Every point? Nonsense.

But that was a fair sample.

Ah, that's comparing the official numbers.

The U.S. uses U-3 for their official number while Canada uses U-6.

U-6 unemployment in the U.S. is actually 6.9%
