The Trump Presidency: Sweet/Sweat 16

Some more good polling news for the Democrats:

From: https://theweek.com/speedreads/864097/6-democratic-candidates-are-beating-trump-new-texas-poll
President Trump might not want to look at a new poll conducted by Univision and the University of Houston. The survey shows six Democratic presidential candidates leading the incumbent in Texas.... The poll also revealed that 40 percent of voters would vote for any Democratic candidate over Trump, compared to just 33 percent who are committed to voting for the president.

Again, with over a year to the election, there is no guarantee that this sort of lead will hold up. But it must be a worry to Republicans to see Texas, a state which has been solidly republican for decades (where the republicans often had double digit leads in the vote, and where Trump won by ~9%) go from a republican lock to a possible swing state.

Hopefully it will mean the GOP will be pouring all sorts of resources into Texas to try to shore up their support there (which will limit how much they can spend in some of the swing states.) Of course, the risk is that the democrats will similarly spend a lot of money there to try to flip the state when there are better targets out there.

At the request of the Vice Premier of China, Liu He, and due to the fact that the People's Republic of China will be celebrating their 70th Anniversary....

....on October 1st, we have agreed, as a gesture of good will, to move the increased Tariffs on 250 Billion Dollars worth of goods (25% to 30%), from October 1st to October 15th.

2 weeks? That's more insulting than respectful. Probably just something for Trump to Tweet his own horn about.

No, according to Pelosi it's not an Impeachment Investigation it's a "Well you see it's a mumble, mumble hey look over there a squirrel!"

So the Dems are gonna spin their wheels over whether it's impeachment or sparkling Presidential Investigation's monster before if even gets to the House of Congress that's actually useful and has a purpose.

Yes, there was talk of Texas flipping for the Democrats last time. But back then, the best opinion polls showed Trump and Clinton virtually tied; perhaps a reason to be optimistic, but not TOO optimistic. Now, we are talking about polls that show actual, solid Democratic leads.

(Again, it still is early. A better indication about their real support will be whether such a lead holds up after the primaries, when the Democrats have actually picked their candidate.)

Maybe its an attempt to minimize the impact on christmas shopping. Granted, its still well before Christmas itself, but maybe Trump and the republicans figure waiting a few weeks will mean price increases due to tariffs won't hit until people have gotten some of their shopping done already.

Well, this is awkward.

Ignorant, not awkward, like the idiot legislator who thought a cold spell with snow in DC meant climate warming couldn't be happening.

If their hearts aren't into it they shouldn't do it at all, and focus on the elections.

In fact, my views on Venezuela, and especially Cuba, were far stronger than those of John Bolton. He was holding me back!

Just spoke to @realDonaldTrump on #Venezuela
It’s true he disagreed with some of the views of previous advisor
But as he reminded me it’s actually the DIRECT OPPOSITE of what many claim or assume
If in fact the direction of policy changes it won’t be to make it weaker

And I was right in that, after weeks of building this up as a bellweather election, now the media is saying it's really not very indictive for the 2020 election.
CNN, Foxnews, MSNBC they all do it.They have built huge machines for covering elections, and they have to find something to use it on.

Watching the local media on a daily basis I did not see so much of this building this up as a bellwether election. Only what I have mentioned so far, that it was noteworthy that the margins were so close.

This was the case even before the cheating was exposed.

To say that the incredibly tight margin in a district with the GOP credentials which the 9th has had for half a century is a bellwether is not particularly misleading, and certainly can (IMO) be viewed as indicative of the coming general election.

What the producers of the various major news outlets decide to do with their airtime doesn't change my view of that at all.

I am unsurprised that Bishop won, although I will admit to disappointed. Certainly not to despair. I've lived in NC for over four decades. If I were to despair whenever a Republican won something I would have left the state or offed myself long ago.

Indeed. I will share in your lack of surprise and disappointment a bit, though I'm not directly involved or a resident of NC. With that said, though, as a resident of NC, do you have anything to say when it comes to this event?

You bet. But were I to say what I want to there is no doubt that yellow cards and possibly suspensions would be in my future.

Definitely NSFW.

Fury and chaos after NC Republicans hold surprise budget vote while governor attends 9/11 ceremony

As Gov. Roy Cooper and at least one Democrat from the North Carolina legislature attended a memorial on the anniversary of the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, Republicans held a surprise vote to override the Democratic governor’s veto of the state budget. Democrats had been assured that there would be no votes on Wednesday morning, and that Republicans were only opening the session as a technicality so they could get to work on other business.

Personally, my comment here is that the current GOP continues to demonstrate that they're cowardly, dishonorable scum who cannot be trusted to uphold anything that they say they will and are gleeful as they piss all over patriotic American values.

Yeah. That's a good start.

Our GOP here in NC has proven that there is nothing too low for them to stoop to.

Christmas is already here. Distros are so overstuffed it's already in store stock rooms and overheads.

That's kind of worrysome.

If a known warmonger like Bolton was "holding Trump back", then what's going to happen now that Trump doesn't have that supposed moderation?

I can just imagine the conversation:

Bolton: "I think we should invade cuba and venezuela"
Trump: "Why can't we use nuclear weapons?"
Bolton: "That's unwise"
Trump: "You're fired"

I'm not involved in the retail business at all...

Stores may be well stocked, but will that inventory last until after christmas? Or will they need to get new shipments as the inventory starts to sell out?

Yeah Texas was gonna go blue last time as well.

It's not like that was totally out of right field or anything. Cruz won by, what? About 2%? No, they didn't win but it was certainly closer than the GOP had wanted.

I agree the Dems shouldn't push for Texas, treat it like every other election cycle. I think their focus should be on Florida mainly, and they should push relatively hard there because of the new wave of voters, and the fact that they have a bit of a love\hate relationship with Trump.

More likely interfering with our liberation of greenland.

Morally, logically, political, and socially you are correct.

Personally I live in a Florida county which is 40% registered Democrat and 36% registered Republican, and went for Trump by a margin of something like less than 2% last time and there's not enough liquor distilled on this continent to make me look forward to being voter in a swing metro area in a swing county of a swing state that during one of the most heated political elections in my lifetime.

In all seriousness, Trump was reported to want an actual direct invasion/ground war in Venezuela.

This is the guy who Trump has put in charge of Venezuela.
