The Trump Presidency: Sweet/Sweat 16

It's rather like a toddler screaming " but didn't do it this time". That internal rage of this time they actually haven't actually done the naughty thing they keep doing but are being punished because no one believes them. I think it is highly likely at some briefing or other Trump heard the name Alabama, of course he wouldn't have been listening to nor capable of understanding the details (probably something like 'potentially could track into the USA as far as Alabama' ) but he knows he heard Alabama and hurricane.

There's a defence going round that he's actually severely dyslexic and saw "Bahamas" written down and that morphed in the reading to "Alabama". Which isn't a defence, because it's not the mistake that's the problem, it's the way he's acted since making the mistake, so what caused the mistake is irrelevant.

Probably more effectively than Trump's tactic of...calling people stupid nicknames.

Not so sure.

Against my better judgment I posted on Facebook the series of quotes from Trump about never having heard of a Category 5 hurricane. I said, if you had an elderly uncle talking like this, wouldn’t you be concerned?

One of the first responses was, “Do you thing Sleepy Creepy Joe is any better? He can’t remember where he is half the time.”

What I find sad is how effective such schoolyard name calling seems to be with a select portion of the population. I would never have guessed it before. I guess if Trump has one talent, it’s effective “labeling”.

My niece's husband is a very successful financial adviser. When I said I was
focusing on paying down my house, he strongly advised I not send it to the
mortgage company but save it as cash in a savings account. He believes a
recession is coming and says having cash on hand is a wiser move. If a
recession has to come, I just pray it comes before the 2020 election.
Trump will lose a lot of support if the economy goes south.

I've looked at the economic data and I see no slow down for next year.
Usually, it happens after six years on average for a Republican president.

Otherwise, Trump has successfully converted the FED into a money making
machine, and you can expect inflation nineteen seventies style.

To review:
Trump's Sunday tweet [said] that Alabama will "most likely be hit (much) harder than anticipated." After the president's tweet, the National Weather Service, in Birmingham, Ala., responded with its own tweet, saying "Alabama will NOT see any impacts from #Dorian. We repeat, no impacts from Hurricane #Dorian will be felt across Alabama. The system will remain too far east." Link

Below, on left, The Idiot holds up childishly doctored chart he claimed backed up his statement. On right, an overlay of all the National Hurricane forecasts for the track that Hurricane Dorian was likely to follow. Click to enlarge. Why does he even bother? Because he's an idiot! (Always has been.) ;)

Thank you to Bahamian Prime Minister Hubert Minnis for your very gracious and kind words in saying that without the help of the United States and me, their would have been many more casualties. I give all credit to FEMA, the U.S. Coast Guard, & the brave people of the Bahamas..

....I would also like to thank “Papa” Doug Manchester, hopefully the next Ambassador to the Bahamas, for the incredible amount of time, money and passion he has spent on helping to bring safety to the Bahamas. Much work to be done by the Bahamian Government. We will help!

I want to congratulate @senatemajldr Mitch McConnell and all Republicans. Today I signed the 160th Federal Judge to the Bench. Within a short period of time we will be at over 200 Federal Judges, including many in the Appellate Courts & two great new U.S. Supreme Court Justices!

The Washington Post’s @PhilipRucker (Mr. Off the Record) & @AshleyRParker, two nasty lightweight reporters, shouldn’t even be allowed on the grounds of the White House because their reporting is so DISGUSTING & FAKE. Also, add the appointment of MANY Federal Judges this Summer!

“In 22 years of patrolling our Southern Border, I have never seen Mexico act like a true Border Security Partner until President Trump got involved, and now they are stepping up to the plate and doing what they need to do.” Brandon Judd, National Border Patrol

Russia and Ukraine just swapped large numbers of prisoners. Very good news, perhaps a first giant step to peace. Congratulations to both countries!

Did he forget he just said that? Or is he plugging his 2020 candidacy?

Prime age women? Did he get those out of the binders?

Prime age women? Did he get those out of the binders?

This one is probably the very boring "Prime age workforce".

See: https://www.frbsf.org/economic-rese...-age-workforce-and-labor-market-polarization/

As for the truth of the claim:
https://www.nakedcapitalism.com/201...-in-the-us-economy-in-the-middle-of-2019.html
Apart from the above-mentioned data on wages, other labor-market indicators do not seem to be at peak values. According to the BLS data referring to July, the labor force participation rate still lingers around 63 percent, well below the 66 percent rate prior to the Great Recession (see Figure 1). The long-term unemployed (those who have been unemployed for 27 weeks or more) are now about 1.2 millions, back to the level of 2007, but still much above the level of the previous peaks in activity (in 1999-2000, for example, they were half than that, not only in absolute terms but also as a percentage of the labor force).

To determine whether there is hidden unemployment, we may in the first place refer to the broadest indicator of labor underutilization provided by the BLS, the rate U-6. The latter is built by adding to unemployed proper (those who searched actively for work in the last month prior to the survey without finding it) those that, although without actively searching for a job, would however be prepared to work were some job available (so-called ‘marginally attached workers’), and also those part-time workers that work less hours than desired because of the unavailability of full-time jobs.

The very low values recently reached by U-6 do not in fact square with the data above on labor force participation. Although U-3 and U-6 are at historically low levels, the participation rate is still much below its peak values, and it is doubtful that this can be entirely explained by changes in the age composition of population. We may note in fact, for example, that also in the 25-54 age range the participation rate, although recovering lately, is still below the 2007-8 value and much lower than its historical maximum value (reached in 1997 and 2000).

Trump Turnberry: US Congress launches investigation into Prestwick Airport deals

A US Congressional committee is investigating President Donald Trump in connection with a potential conflict of interest over military spending at a Scottish airport near his golf resort.

The House Oversight and Reform Committee says expenditure at Prestwick airport has "increased substantially" since Mr Trump came into office.

The debt-ridden airport has been fighting off closure.

It is said to be integral to the Trump business, which is also loss-making.

The committee's accusations are detailed in a letter to the Pentagon - which is dated to June but was only revealed on the Politico website on Friday.
