Far right pro-Brexit groups are threatening to riot today, according to the INDEPENDENT.

BoJo has been accused of using right-wing language designed to appeal to the far right. For example, constantly referring to the Bill to stop No-Deal, a 'Surrender Bill' and it seems deliberate.

A return to the thirties, when the far right were strong?, the Indie asks.

The idea of some far right idiots getting a sorting out by the police really appeals so I kinda hope they do.

Perhaps we need to check the sales of black shirts?

Will they get sorted out, or will they be quietly enabled by plod ?

I guess that in some multicultural forces it may be the former, but fear that in most, it will be the latter.

Spot the Bullingdon wankers, including two of our last 3 PMs

(1) the Hon. Edward Sebastian Grigg, the heir to Baron Altrincham of Tormarton and current chairman of Credit Suisse (UK)

(2) David Cameron

(3) Ralph Perry Robinson, a former child actor, designer, furniture-maker

(4) Ewen Fergusson, son of the British ambassador to France, Sir Ewen Fergusson and now at City law firm Herbert Smith

(5) Matthew Benson, the heir to the Earldom of Wemyss and March

(6) Sebastian James, the son of Lord Northbourne, a major landowner in Kent

(7) Jonathan Ford, the-then president of the club, a banker with Morgan Grenfell

(8) Boris Johnson, the then president of the Oxford Union, now Lord Mayor of London

9) Harry Eastwood, the investment fund consultant

Boris Johnson was never the Lord Mayor of London. He was the Mayor of London, which is a completely separate position.

A police that has been cut to the bone and is very ineffective in many ways, is ideal for civil unrest.

Johnson has made a big play about recruiting more officers, but that will take years and amongst the 30,000 there are plans to re recruit retired officers, many at senior rank, who will never face protests.

There is very high demand for all officers to have access to tasers and more armed police coming from police federations and commissioners, as well as the police themselves.

The recent murder of a police officer is accompanied by many claims of increasing violence against the police (for which the evidence is lacking and violence in general has been on the decline). Scotland has had its first ever deployment and use of riot police.

An under resourced police is weaponising itself in the face of what it sees as a more hostile public.

Or maybe an under resourced police will just have to stand by and let it happen, because they cannot cope.

I generally don't get the impression that the average plod is a right wing tosspot. I'm sure there are some. Now the army on the other hand....

...would not want to get involved in quelling civil unrest. It was bad enough with a load of GB soldiers in NI, that did not go well, but GB soldiers in GB...

The last time the army was used in GB was Peterloo.

OK, time for another silly question from an ISF member from one of the colonies. The talk from some people in high places seems to be that asking the 27 for an extension until 31 January 2020, should all the gods so will, in the next few weeks will work.

So, what can happen, as in real world events, that 31 January next year will provide sufficient time for an acceptable compromise between the UK and the EU to be settled that achieves ... well... something.

It gives time for an election. Either we get another hung Parliament, and are still in the same fix, or we get a Parliament that can actually manage to agree on something (a deal, another referendum, a no deal crash out). The latter would at least resolve the situation get us out of the current impasse.

Oh I wasn't suggesting they would get involved, just that in my experience the right wing fruit loops tend to gravitate towards that uniform rather than others.

We like our nostalgia, it's been 200 years, about time we had a reenactment!

Plus of course if Johnson wants to emulate his hero....

They were dealt with then...

Eh, no.

I think quite a number of Welsh, Scots, Liverpudlians et cetera would disagree.

I suggest some research on Tonypandy, Red Clydeside the military occupation of Liverpool in 1919 and so on is in order.

ETA: It's interesting how many UKian posters in this thread seem utterly ignorant of the use of troops, tanks and warships in suppressing civil unrest in Britain.

It would give time for a general election with the possibility of a different government that would negotiate a different deal with the EU.
