The Trump Presidency: Sweet/Sweat 16

Meanwhile US consumer sentiment suffered it's largest drop in 7 years suggesting the US continues to move towards recession.

I expect that, but so far in the BEA NIPA tables I just don't see it.
I'll need another four years of economic data before I can be sure.

One thing I haven't seen mentioned is how incredibly ignorant the Sharpiegate episode is just on an elementary science basis.

The hurricane path plots of cones of probability do not get smaller. Ever.

Even if there had been some basis for extending that plot as far as Alabama the extension would never have been smaller than the cone preceding it.

A columnist for the WAPO calls Trump's obsession with the weather map story positively Orwellian, and he is right.
In Trumpland 2 and 2 equals 5 if Dear Leader says so, and anybody doubting him is a doubleplusungood crime thinkerthoughtcriminal.

FTFY

Man's got balls. Media says that the hurricane is not forecast to hit Alabama when it's not forecast to hit Alabama. Hence, they don't give a crap about Alabama. Trump warns Alabama of a non-existent threat because he cares so darned much.

Meteorology has a liberal bias.

Trump has become totally obsessed by the Alabama incident. https://www.cnn.com/2019/09/05/politics/donald-trump-alabama-fox-news-white-house/index.html

If he not thrown out of office, this man will lead the USA to total disaster,That is what happened when you somebody mentally unstable in charge....

Do you promise that if Bernie (or Andrew Yang or Elizabeth Warren) is the Democrats' candidate, that you will vote for him (or her), rather than, say, Gary Johnson?

From the link:
Roberts claimed in his email that he pointed out to the President that by the time of his tweet warning Alabama and other states of the storm -- 10:51 am ET on Sunday -- Dorian's projected trajectory had moved much farther east and was no longer including any part of Alabama.
This from the guy who was monitoring the situation from Camp David and only played a fast round of golf.

The Bahamas are 50 mile from the US. It is a backyard playground for Americans. Americans live there, own property, work, etc. Conversely, people with Bahamian background are part of the fabric of the US.

We've heard barely a word about the Bahamas from Trump. That's not a huge surprise. The Bahamas is a **** hole country.

"in dollars" because

US exports to China dropped 2.7%
US Imports from China dropped 1.9%
Overall, in spite of small improvements this month (smaller than expected even), the overall US trade deficit continues to trend upwards.

Meanwhile US consumer sentiment suffered it's largest drop in 7 years suggesting the US continues to move towards recession.

My niece's husband is a very successful financial adviser. When I said I was focusing on paying down my house, he strongly advised I not send it to the mortgage company but save it as cash in a savings account. He believes a recession is coming and says having cash on hand is a wiser move. If a recession has to come, I just pray it comes before the 2020 election. Trump will lose a lot of support if the economy goes south.

It's occurred to me that if it was scene on a sit-com, I'd be thinking "nobody could be that stupid".

It's actually been reminding me of the sitcom trope of the kid who shows up to school with an obviously forged note from home: "Pleaz xcuse Timmy from gym class he busted his leg. Love, Timmy's Mom" or something.

There's a built in problem from jump. How often does "fairness" crash right into "individual liberty"?

Yes, societies are built on imperfect negotiated rules and concepts. America would do well to conduct these negotiations with at least the appearance of honesty and good faith. However it looks now almost an impossible task to get back to the notion of government by the people for the people instead of by corporations for the one percent. America was a nice idea.

I the idea of right we are aiming for is the moral/ethical and not the correct. The right thing as told in various America myths in foundation stories and popular culture has truth, justice/fairness and individual liberty at its heart. Need to get back to at least paying lip service to those values.

Americans aren't concerned with what myths third world people believe about the US. The US isn't perfect and never will be but we're happy it's not a ****hole like Turkey, the most racist, anti-semitic country on the planet according to the ADL.
