The Trump Presidency: Sweet/Sweat 16

I think social media has changed that somewhat.

If President Trump's base abandon FoxNews in the event that they turn on him, can they afford the drop in advertising revenue ?
Social media is a business and I think the exploits of the Internet Research Agency and Cambridge Analytica demonstrate how the idea of "democratized information" is a farce.

What is my octogenarian dad going to watch? Is there anywhere else in the cable guide where he can get more flattering coverage of Trump? Seriously, he will likely be asking me this soon.

Does InfoWars still support him?

You may have to fix him up with some You Tube channels, the crazier, more right-wing, more racist the better.

His relationship with Alex Jones and Infowars is... mixed.

From: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alex_Jones#Relationship_with_Donald_Trump
In April 2018, Jones publicly criticized President Trump during a livestream, after Trump announced a military strike against Syria. During the stream, Jones also stated that Trump had not called him during the prior six months. In a February 2019 interview with Joe Rogan, Jones expressed mixed sentiments about Trump, stating: "I don't dislike Donald Trump and I think he's done some good things, on trying to do peace and trying to get jobs back to America, but I hate Donald Trump because I got behind him [...] and then he became my identity."

He has an idealized view of the internet and I'd hate to spoil that for him. He thinks it exist purely to circulate bad email chains and porn.

If you told him that only the bad email chainers and pornographers are still supporting Trump, would it change his mind (about one or the other)?

He assumes all Americans support Trump. Especially those nice girls in the nudey pictures.

Trump Tweets

Just watched @FoxNews heavily promoting the Democrats through their DNC Communications Director, spewing out whatever she wanted with zero pushback by anchor, @SandraSmithFox. Terrible considering that Fox couldn’t even land a debate, the Dems give them NOTHING! @CNN & @MSNBC....

....are all in for the Open Border Socialists (or beyond). Fox hires “give Hillary the questions” @donnabrazile, Juan Williams and low ratings Shep Smith. HOPELESS & CLUELESS! They should go all the way LEFT and I will still find a way to Win - That’s what I do, Win. Too Bad!....

....I don’t want to Win for myself, I only want to Win for the people. The New @FoxNews is letting millions of GREAT people down! We have to start looking for a new News Outlet. Fox isn’t working for us anymore!

What he really means... "We have to start looking for a new Propaganda Outlet. Faux isn't shilling for us anymore."

Apparently Trump threw out possible pardons to his aids while instructing them to build the wall any way they possibly can. He wants it done by election day! Damn that Mexico just won't play along!

ETA:

President Donald Trump has told his officials to take new measures in a redoubled effort to build his long-promised border wall before the 2020 election — and has assured that he will issue pardons if his aides have to break laws to get the project done, according to The Washington Post.

Surely planning to commit crimes then abuse the pardon system to get away with it is an impeachable offense? Otherwise it renders any president above the law.

I am 100% positive he will have to deal with the same punishments he's had to deal with every other time he's ran afoul of the law.

A little bad news for Trump on the polling front:

From: https://www.independent.co.uk/news/...consin-michigan-arizona-florida-a9081166.html
The new poll shows that, in key states that Mr Trump won in 2016 to break down the so-called Democratic “firewall”, his fortunes may have turned. Those include Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin, where Mr Trump beat Hillary Clinton with a combined 130,000 votes. But the concerning polling expands far beyond those states, and into territory that has generally been considered safe for Republicans — and states Mr Trump won.

Now, normally the one bright spot in Trump's polling numbers is the economy, but even that seems to be problematic.

From: https://thehill.com/policy/finance/...conomy-fading-than-improving-blame-trump-poll
More voters for the first time say the U.S. economy is getting worse than better since President Trump’s election amid rising recession fears, according to a new poll. In the Quinnipiac University poll released Wednesday, 37 percent of respondents said the U.S. economy was deteriorating, 31 percent said it was improving and 30 percent said the forecast was holding steady.

Now, this IS over a year before the next election, so plenty of things can happen to skew things either way. And, 'disapproval' doesn't necessarily men a person will vote against Trump. Still its not looking too good for Stubby McBonespurs.

I'm not so sure. Instructing someone to commit a crime and promising a pardon strikes me as crossing into sic semper tyrannis territory. Regardless of politics that sort of thing ought to be squelched hard.

It ought to be. But it won't. Republicans are enablers and hold power in the senate (as well as stacking the supreme court). They won't act against Trump, simply because it might end up harming the "republican brand".

Notice that they actually don't deny he did it, but claim he was joking.

Which, regardless of whether you believe it or not, makes you wonder, did he do that because he knew it was illegal?

I must say if Fox isn't working for Trump anymore that is a good sign for the 2020 election. Fox has a lot of influence over the people who don't watch anything else.

Oh, I think they're still largely on the side of Trump and the Republicans.

Trump surrogates regularly appear on the channel, and he still gets defended on TV programs like Fox and Friends. He also has the support of many of the Fox hosts... Pirro is campaigning for Trump, and Hannity is promoting a book by Trump Jr.

Some of the hosts may be putting up a false front about how they "don't work for Trump", but we know that's not true.

If the network seems to be less pro-Trump, its probably because Trump's antics are so bizarre and harmful that its harder for the network to cover up.

In the end Fox News is basically more Pro Republican then anything else...that is why most of the talking heads, though generally supporting Trump, have not quite gone as far as the out and out worship of Hannity.
I think they are beginning think about Fox News in a post Trump era.
Look at Rupert Murdoch. He was skeptical about Trump until Trump was elected, then he jumped on board the bandwagon. Now he is making preparations to jump off.
