The Trump Presidency: Sweet/Sweat 16

However, the workers attendance wasn't "mandatory" in that same way. They were offered more money to attend than not to attend. Just like you get offered more money to attend than not to attend when approached on the street to be paid to attend.

Again, this is money they usually make during that time slot. It's not more money than usual.

Essentially, docking the pay of those workers if they don't go support Trump. It's disgusting and is probably illegal, and if not, it should be illegal.

My Stock Market gains must be judged from the day after the Election, November 9, 2016, where the Market went up big after the win, and because of the win. Had my opponent won, CRASH!

If we take it that it takes a year or two for the effects of a newly elected president to affect the stock market, then this doesn't look so good: https://www.macrotrends.net/1358/dow-jones-industrial-average-last-10-years

If you look at that graph, it looks like it's fluctuated but mostly stayed the same since the beginning of 2018.

In fact Jan 2nd, 2018 = 24,824.01, Aug 23rd, 2019 = 25,628.9.

Judicial Watch is so much better than Fox. It's got all these great stories Fox has never published!!

I guess it's interesting for Trump to point out that there are some conspiracy theories so far out there that even Fox won't touch them.

Sorry not going to go all the way back to the start, but I assume that this is about the Shell workers.

This really is a beat up by the media. It's a result of the way that the pay system works.

The workers would generally work more hours than their 40, thus they would get overtime, but the policy of the company is that if they took time off during the week, then they would not be entitled to get over time for the "extra hours".

So, is a worker worked 50 hours, then normally they would get 40 normal and 10 overtime. If they took a paid day off, then they would get 48 hours normal pay, losing the overtime for the extra eight hours.

Now to the Trump visit. Because the factory was shut down for the visit the workers were given the option of taking the time off or if they were on site then they needed to be at the visit. From a company and security point of view they don't want people wandering about the factory while the President is there.

This is why the result was be there or lose overtime. It was a quirk of the company's policies, mixed with the security requirements of the visit.

There was no attempt to bribe or force people to attend, it was just a bad result from two policies that have been in place for decades.

The policies were company policies, which means they could change or adjust them as needed at their own discretion.

They could have held their not-a-rally at some time other than regular working hours. They could have gone ahead and paid everyone whether they didn't work and went to the not-a-rally or not. They could have done any number of things which would not have had the end result of employees who went to the not-a-rally at the company's behest getting paid more money by the company than the ones who chose not to.

I'm not buying your apologia.

Great respect for the fact that President Xi & his Representatives want “calm resolution.” So impressed that they are willing to come out & state the facts so accurately. This is why he is a great leader & representing a great country. Talks are continuing!

The story by Axios that President Trump wanted to blow up large hurricanes with nuclear weapons prior to reaching shore is ridiculous. I never said this. Just more FAKE NEWS!

What is this? The third or fourth time his sorry ass has been overseas and he announced the China was coming back to the table? What's that old expression that his base can't remember? Something about "fool me once, shame on you... " Can't remember the rest but I'm sure it ends with ".... Fake News!"

I agree.

It's less money than usual if they don't go to a Trump rally and act like they support him.

Hair-split all you want. The practical difference from being paid to go is nil.

What you call hair-splitting I consider an important difference. It changes nothing to the fact that it's a disgusting practice, in case that's your beef.

How's that deal he signed with Mexico going?

Almost three years into it and I am still sometimes mistaking President Trump for a normal person.

I noticed that President Trump frequently talks about other countries agreeing to buy agricultural products and then not doing buying it. I was about to say, surely someone who has lived his whole life screwing over vendors must understand that any agreement not in writing is meaningless. Then I remembered how nucking futs this guy is; of course he is going to complain about someone else doing something he does regularly.

trump always claims the best of both worlds in these scenarios.

Initially he claims credit for getting China to agree to buy ********* of soya beans, or for promising to prevent the import of fentanyl, and loudly blares that all over twitter. What a dealmaker.

Then, whether China has or hasn't done either or both of those things, loudly blares once again on twitter that he is being tough on China, not mentioning that it was his failed (or fake) 'deals' that have fallen through. If only he had arranged a Memorandum of Understanding or something.

I have no information as to whether any of those kinds of deals he claims to have made were actually made, nor, if they were made, whether they were broken. Yes, we say this over and over, but it's a surreal circumstance we are in that a US President has zero credibility with regard to the truth.

Might the issue be that those deals mean nothing? They are, at best, handshake agreements, which have nothing to back them. They are as good as Trump's word, which is worthless.

Now if he negotiated a treaty....

Okay, a shiny new internet for anybody who can find a picture of Melanie looking at Donald Trump the way she's here looking at Justin Trudeau:

It's more ridiculous than that. The government of Japan doesn't determine how much corn the nation buys. Private businesses do. So Abe never made any promise about how much corn would be bought.

I imagine it's the same with China, though I could be mistaken.

This is mostly right. The governments can set quota, for instance say that Japan had a Trade deal with the US for 250,000 tons of corn, then that would mean that Japanese buyers could bring in up to 250,000 tons of US corn. This would result in the US market trying to find buyers to take that much and if they couldn't, then they'd not be able to send in 250,000 tons. .

Yep, but Trump doesn't get that at all. I've seen just this happen here in Canada, with regards to US milk imports. As part of the New NAFTA agreement, Canada increased the limit on how much milk the US could export duty-free to Canada. This actually resulted in at least one new US brand showing up on the shelves of my local stores.

But essentially no one bought any of it. There were even Facebook posts letting people know that this was a US product, and the vast majority of people just decided, "**** that, I'm not buying Trump Milk!". Only a few months later, and I can't remember the last time I saw this brand for sale.

The Government of Canada made a deal, but the People of Canada were of a different opinion. So much for Trump's "win".

About the hurricane nuke thing.

Can we say anything about the career employee presenting the briefing and apparently didn't quit on the spot.

I would call that a moral failure to not have quit on the spot.
