President Donald Trump was tickled Wednesday [May 19, 2019] when an audience member at a Florida rally suggested shooting migrants arriving at the U.S.-Mexican border.

Trump was bemoaning the legal protections afforded migrants and espousing the need for a border wall when he asked rhetorically, "How do you stop these people?"

"Shoot them!" someone shouted from the Panama City Beach crowd, according to multiple news media reports.

The remark drew a chuckle from the president, who shook his head, pointed in the audience member's direction and said, "Only in the Panhandle you can get away with that statement."

"Only in the Panhandle," he repeated to laughs and cheers from the crowd.​

This is the one vote pro America Republicans are going to get to make. Moscow Mitch is going to have to allow a vote on the DNI. Ratcliffe is face down in the pro Trump anti American kool-aide. He was never going to protect his nation from Russian interference in the next election. President Trump wants to tie gun-restriction legislation to immigration legislation.

I have no hard evidence so I could be completely wrong in having a strong suspicion that there are a lot of gun owners who would say, if this passed, “my gun (or magazine or accessory) is now illegal because of immigrants; I will take out my anger out on immigrants (either non-violently or violently).”

The article I referred to talked about the 2016 election, and rather than being evidence that "extremism works", they pointed out something:

In the last election, Trump campaigned largely as a moderate.

Trump campaigned as a racist and someone with a magic wand who would fix everything right away. He didn't exactly have a lot of polices detailed other than building the wall that mexico would pay for and repealing Obamacare and replacing it with something much better to be determined later.

But sure I guess banning muslims is now a moderate position.

Yes, some aspects of American society has shifted to the right... support for free trade is relatively high among Democratic politicians for example. But other aspects of american society have shifted to the left.

For example, homosexual rights are a lot more accepted now than they were just a few decades ago. (Remember Clinton had the Defense of Marriage act, yet a few presidential terms later and the majority of people think gay marriage is acceptable.)

And the idea of Universal health care is something that wouldn't have been considered in the late 20th century, whereas now most Americans are in favor of it (and just differ on how it should be implemented.)

Except of course by Nixon, the only person to implement universal health care in the US, with his renal failure program. Outside of social issues Nixon would now be a rampant socialist and left wing democrat.

Based on the historic currency manipulation by China, it is now even more obvious to everyone that Americans are not paying for the Tariffs – they are being paid for compliments of China, and the U.S. is taking in tens of Billions of Dollars! China has always....

I never claimed that Trump gave detailed policies, nor that what he presented was realistic, nor was he being honest. Nor did I claim Trump was some sort of "Democrat in Republican clothing".

But what Trump DID say was often closer to the political center than many republicans. Remember, the Republican party was filled with people who wanted to attack medicare/social security, voted for the Iraq war, were actively anti-homosexual, etc. So, a politician like Trump makes statements (even vague ones) that he's against war, will support gay rights, etc. he's going to appear moderate (even if his plans were never really thought through.)

Overall, he campaigned as someone right of center, but not as far right as (for example) Paul Ryan (who wanted to privatize social security, supported the Iraq war, and voted against various laws regarding gay rights). Or Ted Cruz, who was also against same sex unions, and wanted an even more extreme change to the tax system. Compared to them, what Trump was promising in 2016 would have been considered closer to the political center (even if the details were not presented.)

I do want to stress that I am not a Trump supporter. He is a racist and con artist. And I recognize that much of what he promised in 2016 was a lie. I'm just pointing out that anyone looking at his promises would find them closer to the political center than many/most other republicans in 2016.

First of all, I never claimed that all of Trump's positions were "moderate". Only that some were closer to the political center than many other republicans.

Secondly, yes there were certainly a lot of policies and things Trump said and did that were racist. But considering he is a member of the republican party, the party that regularly suppresses minority voter rights and was represented by Jeff "KKK were good people" Sessions and Stephen "When did white nationalist become offensive" King, his racist rhetoric is (sadly) not that far out of place.

Yes, Trump is a racist (one of many reasons he shouldn't be anywhere near the white house), but sadly American society seems to be quite accepting of racism.

Not sure if his 'renal failure program' would constitute 'universal health care', since it is so focused on a single disease.

In terms of general health care, he did want to expand coverage (partly through employer insurance programs, partly through more government programs) but he didn't go anywhere near what Sanders was proposing. And after Nixon, Ford and Carter didn't really bring the U.S. much closer to universal health care.

And he personally intervened with the US Fed to pressure them for an interest cut so that the USD would go up on the Forex market. That's what the Thai government does, too. You can almost spot when the payments on their submarines or fighter jets are due because they pump the Baht so they have smaller real currency payments. In Trump's case a higher dollar means he can claim a half-point more success.

Someone on Politico said we should get the amounts outstanding on his family's debts in Euros at the Deutsche Bank and Baque El Whatever to see what the increased dollar saves for Trump, Inc.

It covers all americans who have this disease. It is the only form of universal healthcare we have.

He certainly didn't go there but was looking into it and wasn't against it. In terms of non social issues he would count as a leftist democrat now. And even some of them, I mean abortion was just not that big a deal then, unless you were catholic and he wasn't.
