I don't know they seemed really enamored with driving through black lives matter protests, it is all in what they decide is a hate crime after all. If they go after the "real racists" like black lives matter with this they might get broad conservative support.

It does seem rather inevitable that, should this legislation actually come to pass, the first person the Trump DoJ will aggressively prosecute under it will be an anti-fascist protester who gets caught trading fists with a nazi, regardless of who "started" it.

Frags (and for that matter any grenade w/ a potential anti-personnel use, wp, thermite etc.) are manufactured for government issue only - even going back before the N.F.A. explosive materials were available across the counter but any explosive device (artillery shells primarily pre-'34) designed for U.S. military use have not been sold to civilians.

Even today a demolition company can acquire bulk explosives and detonators of the same type used by the military for commercial use, but they can not legally acquire explosive devices designed for and issued by the military - an individual can purchase a lb of c4, an electrical or fuze blasting cap, a couple of plastic trays and some ball bearings but they can't buy an M18A1, nor could they assemble one out of legally acquired materials absent a manufacturing license.

And that's silly. How many Americans have been murdered by grenades in the last five years? Meanwhile, medical error is the third leading cause of death. Grenades don't kill people; people kill people. If you outlaw grenades, only outlaws will have grenades. Children drown in swimming pools. Banning grenades to prevent injury is like banning spoons to stop obesity. "SHALL NOT BE INFRINGED."

Well sure, people were not killed by grenades. Yet people were killed. You can actually use it as argument, that if you ban (and confiscate) guns, people will get killed by other means (like for example cars).
Mass shooting are typically made by dedicated individuals. At least some of them will find other ways. I see the media feedback loop as quite part of the problem, and changing that might be less controversial - in other words, with more change of success.

Gun control will probably be least effective in curbing these plotted mass shootings (see for instance New Zealand and Norway). Would-be killers can absolutely resort to other means, such as running people over. But they can already do that.

Most mass shootings occur at places that have personal meaning to the killer. The guy in El Paso wanted to kill Hispanics and was concerned about security, but others fantasize about murdering co-workers or family members. It's not clear that cars and bombs will scratch that itch.

Seems to me that any hate crime meriting the death penalty would be redundant;already covered under Murder one.

Anytime any mass shooter uses anything novel, people run out to buy them. Disgusting people, that is.

And where's the logic in that? Most people can purchase semi-automatic rifles that are "military grade" yet also excellent to use if you're going on a rampage and want to kill a bunch of random people.
