Today's Mass Shooting

Has today's shooting happened yet? I didn't follow the news on the last one and I figure it's easier to just start with the next one than to backtrack.

It's not irrelevant in my opinion. Nor did I post it as a tu quoque. Here is the story I was responding to:

Mexican government may seek extradition of El Paso shooter, access to investigation

There's plenty of murders on their own side of the border they could be investigating instead. This guy will likely get the death penalty anyway because it's Texas. What they are proposing would mostly be redundant.

I don't know about you but I would absolutely love the irony of the Hispanic hater being put on trial in Mexico.

So what's the issue here?

Surely the important question for the US is the homicide rate across the population? Individual major incidents are certainly tragic but seem only part of the much larger underlying problem for the country?

Here's a less-blurry image of the kind of drum-magazine the Daytona shooter was using with his weapon. Look at this damn thing.

Some absolute penis is selling these things while saying "self-defense!" with a wink and a grin, like the makers of all these kinds of mods do.

Everyone should have at least a couple of Beta-C magazines for their tacticool .223 semi-automatic rifles, just in case they'd need to defend themselves and their property.

It is designed for one thing, and one thing only - to allow the shooter to kill as many people as possible in the shortest possible time.

Why are these things even legal?

Pretty sure that applies to most semi-automatic rifles, or "assault weapons" as murrican's love to call them, irrespective of the size of their magazine.

You missed spanking themselves over a Red Dawn national defence fantasy.

Seems excessive to shoot people for bad remakes, we could instead just not see them. But perhaps some sort of government sanction or fine could be levied on remaking any movie within a set time from the original.

United States Secret ServiceNATIONAL THREAT ASSESSMENT CENTERMass Attacks in Public Spaces - 2018LIMITED TO OPEN SOURCE INFORMATION 1On May 31, 2019, 12 innocent people were killed at the Virginia Beach Municipal Center in Virginia Beach, VA by anattacker who had reportedly resigned from his position at the municipal center earlier that day. While little else is yet known publicly about the attacker or his motive, this act of mass violence is the most recent example of targeted violence affecting a public space in the United States. Mitigating the risk of mass casualties from such an event requires the efforts of everyone with a role in public safety, a responsibility that is not limited to law enforcement. Other communitystakeholders may also be in a position to intervene, including workplace managers, school administrators, local officials, and the mental health community, each of whom has a unique role to play in keeping communities safe. To support these prevention efforts, the Secret Service National Threat Assessment Center (NTAC) is tasked with delivering research, training, consultation, and information sharing on threat assessment and the prevention of targeted violence, including targeted attacks directed at workplaces, houses of worship, schools, and other public spaces. The research and information produced by NTAC guides not only the Secret Service’s approach to preventing assassinations, called threatassessment, but also informs the community wide approach needed to prevent incidents of targeted violence.1This report is NTAC’s second analysis of mass attacks that were carried out inpublic spaces, and it builds upon Mass Attacks in Public Spaces – 2017 (MAPS-2017). In MAPS-2017, NTAC found that attackers from that year were most frequently motivated by grievances related to their workplace or a domestic issue. All of the attackers had recently experienced at least one significant stressor, and most had experienced financial instability. Over three-quarters of the attackers had made threatening or concerning communications, and a similar number had elicited concern from others. Further, most had histories of criminal charges, mental health symptoms, and/or illicit substance use or abuse.

Yes, TPTB are looking into it.

This isn't primarily a gun-issue. Guns are part of the issue, but primarily, what you have is a right wing terrorism issue.

You can't say that, that is totally unacceptable language in this country. Blame video games instead.

Holy **** that's perfect for hunting deer!

Well you never know when 50 home invaders are going to burst into your home all at once.

A few years ago I was sitting in the waiting room of a local car dealership having some work done on my car, and I overheard someone talking about his need to defend himself if a group of gang members with automatic weapons broke into his house.

What if Godzilla comes? He's notoriously immune to large military ordinance. Maybe small arms would work better, and you'll need quite a few bullets to take him down!

Oh very true:

And a majority of homicides in the US involve firearms of some type.

Yes I just played a steam punk game where I blow up walking armour/tank structures. Think I'll build myself one and head off down the beach with it.

On the other hand maybe Trump is the moron I've always thought he is.
