This what y'all are gonna get when your national leader stokes racial hatred and energises his racist base to action. Expect it to get a lot worse before it gets any better.
CNN in its coverage has been quoting an El Paso police spokesman as announcing that immigration authorities would not be present either at the hospitals or at the family reunification site in the wake of the massacre; evidently the police have concerns that some victims of the shooting, perhaps with serious injuries, have not sought medical treatment out of fear of being arrested and deported by ICE agents waiting at hospitals, and/or haven't attempted to reunite with family at the designated site.
Is an El Paso police promise binding upon the ICE?
I don't mean to beat a dead horse but I don't like the term "mass shooter".
I like the word Wikipedia uses, rampage killer better, because it's a bit more specific in what kind of murder we're talking about, what most people imagine when they think mass shooting, but broader at the same time, including knife attacks and other weapons like bombs or suicide by pilot.
Gang shootouts could be classified as mass shootings under the current classification often referenced in the news.
Police in Dayton, Ohio, are currently responding to a reported mass shooting in the Oregon District neighborhood, with scanner traffic indicating possibly as many as seven fatalities. Developing situation.
In fairness the source of the "three arrested" was the mayor of El Paso, who is an authority and the kind of person that it's generally safe for news agencies to quote statements from.
https://www.wcpo.com/news/state/sta...o-arts-district-may-have-killed-as-many-as-10The first on-the-scene reports came from social media. In one, backlit by flashing blue and red lights, Facebook user James Williams said he had been sitting at the outdoor patio of a Fifth Street bar when the shooter appeared.
“Came up with an AR-15, had a vest on, earmuffs, just started blowing bullets everywhere,” he said. “I’m safe. There is casualties everywhere."
So, we are at the point where we can't go 12 hours without a rampage shooting?
