The Trump Presidency 15

That is the model they have been using to run the country for the past few decades. Any win for the democrats is a loss for the Republicans. It is totally self serving narcissism and destructive. The only legislation they will pass will be operational bills and bills that appear to be ones that Trump has proposed so that they are the winners.

I wish we'd go back to the old days when when ever a party got into power we still had some good done because they would just lie and say the good ideas the other party had were theirs.

Republicans how about you do that for a while, just for a change of pace? Just start passing healthcare and gay rights and environmental reform laws and act like they were always your idea.

You can still troll the Democrats by taking credit for their ideas, that will keep the libruls worked up enough for your base.

The chances that the two would have close to the same file name is pretty slim to none.

Really? Presidentialseal1.png and presidentialseal2.png. Or perhaps he sorts them like I do in date order. In any case, do the Google image search. I did and the fake seal was nowhere to be seen.

I’m not saying it wasn’t deliberate, but it is plausible that he made a mistake.

Why in blazes do US elections start so danged *early*?

Correction: Campaigns. As for why, well... meh. Because the candidate thinks that it's worth it?

For instance, in the case of Presidential candidates, for the better part of two years in advance they're on the hustings! It's like for half the time pols are in campaign mode. It's gotta impair actual work for which they were elected.

Can it not be possible to shrink this down to *at most* 6 months?

This forever electioneering is hard on the nerves!

Trump applied to officially start his campaign when? Was it the week after he got elected?

Wonder what this was all about?

I think... it's worth a look at CNN's Victor Blackwell's take on those tweets. He's from and lived in the place that Trump stated "No human being would want to live there" until he went to college, apparently.

More trash. More concerned residents. People live in the home with the silver van. This is @RepCummings district. This has nothing to do with race. Let us all pray the city removes the trash & install cameras to catch the individuals dumping on the property. #WestBaltimore

@RepCummings — your district!

@kimKBaltimore interviews Baltimore resident Michelle:

Michelle on Trump's tweets: "What he said was definitely true. [Cummings] hasn't done anything for us"
Michelle on Cummings: "He's worried more about [caring for illegal aliens at the border] than his own people"

So sad that Elijah Cummings has been able to do so little for the people of Baltimore. Statistically, Baltimore ranks last in almost every major category. Cummings has done nothing but milk Baltimore dry, but the public is getting wise to the bad job that he is doing!

Antifa isn't a group so much as a bunch of groups with diverse causes that have a common goal to counter alt-righters on the streets when they show up.

Yes, I said that.

However, since this is so widespread and undefined, the definition of Antifa can become "anyone who stands in a Nazi's way when they are making a B-line for the synagogue with a Molotov Cocktail". The police can then start giving terrorist charges on anyone they feel like who shows up to Charlottesville 2.0 and isn't marching with the tiki-torch club.

And I'd agree that this is almost certainly what Trump intends.

Antifa, unlike the folks they oppose, do not have a body count.

I agree, but there have been some incidents that I'd call terrorism. Most notably Willem Van Spronsen, the man who attacked a detention centre, self-identified as antifa.

I suppose I should make my point clearer - I think it's stupid to try to classify "antifa" as a terrorist organisation because it isn't an organisation. And I agree that the purpose of doing so is nefarious. But I approve of classifying events such as the one referenced above as terrorism, just as much as I approve of classifying similar events perpetrated by white supremacists as terrorism, and I think that the more the idea becomes ingrained in people's heads that this is what terrorism is rather than terrorism being shorthand for "something that is done by brown people" the better people's attitude towards terrorism will be.

This is fun. Remember Trump's criticism of Baltimore in his attack on Cummings? Well...https://twitter.com/mattyglesias/status/1155259806715994113

Per @AlecMacGillis’ reporting, Jared Kushner is actually a major Baltimore-area slumlord who’s breaking all kinds of rules so perhaps Trump should direct his concerns about rats and such to him.

It's being reported in this article that senior Trump officials are all but admitting that sending out racist messages is good for Trump's support, but that it's better to do so without being overtly racist.

Speaking of fun things, the twitter exchange embedded in this tweet is amusing.

The TL/DR version:

David Simon, in response to Trump's anti-Baltimore tweet, tweeted that if Trump actually went to Baltimore and met the people he'd "wet himself". Someone leapt in to defend Trump, asking Simon whether he'd even watched The Wire. David Simon wrote The Wire.

Oh, that is ******* hilarious. Note that we didn't hear anything from"Bud" after that - he deleted his tweet and changed his privacy setting to protect his account..... ooooh, I wonder why he did that?

Thankfully, one of the other users was sharp enough to screenshot it, so that we could all revel in the stupidity of yet another Trumpista.

It's virtue signaling. House Republicans knew the deal would pass, so some of them could peel off and pretend to oppose the spending.
I thought "virtue signaling" was a sin exclusive to liberals.

You're thinking of SJWs.

Conservatives pretend to virtue and generally make a point of wearing it on their sleeve. Although that pretense is becoming difficult even for them. (One wonders how any of them can even manage to keep a straight face when they go on about it in public.)

Liberals, on the other hand, are guilty of campaigning for social justice. This is pretty much exclusive to them, as anything like real social justice is anathema to conservatives, and they wouldn't even pretend to it, much less do anything to actually advance it.
