They don't seem to have tried very hard ... if they actually did any looking at all.

Why in blazes do US elections start so danged *early*? For instance, in the case of Presidential candidates, for the better part of two years in advance they're on the hustings! It's like for half the time pols are in campaign mode. It's gotta impair actual work for which they were elected.

Can it not be possible to shrink this down to *at most* 6 months?

Dang, Trump had himself a good week. Wonder how he'll screw it up. I swear, if someone who wasn't a personal trainwreck had gotten ahold of the best bits of Trump's playbook, he'd be a juggernaut.

The thing is, it's actually worse than that tweet makes it out. It's not that he thinks you don't hear the word "England" much, it's that he seems to think that "England", "Great Britain", and "the UK" all mean the same thing. It's understandable that the average American might not know the difference between the three, but this guy is the President of the US.

For those who don't know, "England" is a country within Great Britain. "Great Britain" is an island on which there are three countries - England, Scotland, and Wales. "The UK" or, to give it its full title, "The United Kingdom Of Great Britain And Northern Ireland" consists, as its name suggests, of the countries of Great Britain and the country of Northern Ireland, which makes up the northern part of the island of Ireland.

For added confusion there is "the British Isles", which is not a political entity at all, but a geographic classification which includes some islands not included in the UK, and the Republic of Ireland, which is the country that makes up the southern part of the island of Ireland.

Again, I wouldn't expect the average American to know all of this. There are plenty of Brits who don't. But you would expect the President of the United States of America to.

LOL, that does appear to be Trump's strategy -- the same combination of lies, empty promises, character assassination, and race-baiting demagoguery, with propaganda help from any countries that want to see us in domestic turmoil and weakened on the world stage. But that strategy failed him in 2018 against a simple get-out-the-vote strategy, and his response has been to crank up the Trump to 11. At least when he loses in 2020, pundits won't have to look far to figure out why: Trumpers can only vote once, no matter how fired up they are.

He did the exact same thing during an interview with Piers Morgan in July 2018.

TRUMP: We would make a great deal with the United Kingdom because they have product that we like. I mean they have a lot of great product. They make phenomenal things, you know, and you have different names — you can say “England,” you can say “UK,” you can say “United Kingdom” so many different — you know you have, you have so many different names — Great Britain. I always say: “Which one do you prefer? Great Britain? You understand what I’m saying?’

MORGAN: You know Great Britain and the United Kingdom aren’t exactly the same thing?

....As proven last week during a Congressional tour, the Border is clean, efficient & well run, just very crowded. Cumming District is a disgusting, rat and rodent infested mess. If he spent more time in Baltimore, maybe he could help clean up this very dangerous & filthy place

Why is so much money sent to the Elijah Cummings district when it is considered the worst run and most dangerous anywhere in the United States. No human being would want to live there. Where is all this money going? How much is stolen? Investigate this corrupt mess immediately!
 
It's similar to if someone were to say to an American that "North America", "the United States of America" and "Texas" were all synonyms.
