The Trump Presidency 15

Apparently there is another change... The logo was changed from E plurubus unum (latin for out of many one) to the spanish phrase "45 is a puppet"

Not finished there. The eagles shield is changed to the shape of the shield from the Russian coat of arms, and the 5 "stars" at the top of that shield are actually hammers and sickles.

And then there's this:

Lots of American companies have lost sales since the Trump administration and China embarked on the current cycle of tariff-raising and retaliation....ecretary of Agriculture Sonny Perdue unveiled details of the latest aid package for farmers who've lost export sales....In his remarks, Perdue portrayed the payments as a modest contribution toward the enormous losses that farmers have endured. Agricultural economists, however, disagreed. "This is going to be a lot of money pumped into the Corn Belt," said Scott Irwin at the University of Illinois. Even last year's smaller aid package probably overpaid farmers for their trade-related losses...

I have to admit, I'm actually a little surprised. Early on in the trade wars I had heard reports of farmers having problems... lost sales, not enough assistance to compensate. Maybe it depends on the particular crops and locations.

Looks like the equivalence of buying votes through agricultural welfare if you ask me. Then again, Trump doesn't pay taxes so what does he care how money gets spent. Best economy ever!

Mitch McConnell blocks legislation to protect the next election from Russia because it's 'partisan'

Senate Democrats tried to do something Thursday morning, by attempting to get consent to bring two bipartisan election security bills to the floor. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell blocked both, saying that Democrats were bringing the bills to get a "political benefit"—the political benefit of not allowing Russia to take over our government. McConnell said that these bills, which would require the use of paper ballots and additional funding for the Elections Assistance Commission, are "partisan legislation."

On Wednesday, Democrats tried to bring two other non-controversial election protection bills to the floor (one co-authored by Sen. Tom Cotton, the Arkansas Republican who teeters on the very edge of the far-right spectrum). Both of those bills were blocked by Republicans. Sen. Mark Warner, ranking member on the Intelligence Committee, brought one of those bills. "Mr. Mueller's testimony should serve as a warning to every member of this body about what could happen in 2020, literally in our next elections," said Warner. "nfortunately, in the nearly three years since we uncovered Russia's attack on our democracy, this body has not held a single vote on stand-alone legislation to protect our elections."

McConnell is the sole reason that no stand-alone election protection bills have come to the floor. We can speculate as to why.

I'm still seeing no reason to treat McConnell much short of being an outright traitor.

16-year-old migrant boy died alone, next to border facility toilet, autopsy report reveals

Carlos crossed the border on May 13 and had been detained at the Rio Grande Valley Sector's Central Processing Center for nearly a week—in violation of the 72-hour limit imposed by law—when he began to feel sick. ”That day, a nurse practitioner found that he had a 103-degree fever, and he tested positive for the flu. He was prescribed Tamiflu and transferred to the Border Patrol station at Weslaco. Hernandez died the next morning,” when he was found by officers.

His autopsy concluded that he “succumbed to the flu, complicated by pneumonia and sepsis, on or near the toilet of his South Texas Border Patrol cell.” Texas Monthly notes that Border Patrol apparently never made an effort to hospitalize the boy when he became sick, in fact moving him to Weslaco even though a bed had reportedly been designated for him by the Office of Refugee Resettlement, where kids are supposed to be transferred from Border Patrol custody.

The deaths of migrant children after being taken into U.S. custody have been unprecedented, because “before December, no child had died in Border Patrol custody in a decade.”

ICE broke the law and caused the death of yet another child in the process. This is absurd... and still escalating, by the look of it.

For those who were curious, here's a bit more about what Pelosi actually said regarding impeachment after the Mueller hearing.

We want to have the strongest possible case to make a decision as to what path we will go down and that does – is not endless in terms of time or endless in terms of the information that we want.

But, if it comes to a point where the cone of silence and the obstruction of justice and the cover up in the White House prevents us from getting that information, that will not prevent us from going forward. In fact, it’s even more grounds to go forward.

<snip>

So, when we go down this path, we want it to be as unifying for our country, not dividing. And that’s why, we want it to be the strongest possible case.

Respectable words, though how things play out in practice is yet to be seen.

This seems appropriate:

A new billboard along I-65 in Hart County is raising some eyebrows. The sign reads, “Putin’s Mitch” and features a photo of Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell.

Damn you Sweden for letting your justice system act independently of politics.

You probably don't even have presidential pardons.

That the sort of Communist hellhole you get with monarchies.

Give A$AP Rocky his FREEDOM. We do so much for Sweden but it doesn’t seem to work the other way around. Sweden should focus on its real crime problem! #FreeRocky
