Democrats Move to Ensure No More AOCs

They were racist, sure.

Here's the problem, though. "Racist" is a deflated currency. It's the cultural equivalent of the Venezuelan bolivar. You printed too much of it, and now it's worthless.

Ah the "Da left overplayed the race card now we're in racism surplus so I've got racism points to spend without going into the red" argument.

That's not how it works. Over playing of the race card doesn't cancel out racism like matter and anti-matter.

The very idea that you think someone just gets to be racist to get back at some (real or perceived it doesn't matter) over use of "teh race card" is disgusting.

I applaud your civility.

As for me I'll say it plainly: prestige and zigg are being racists. Not protecting a racist, not engaging in disingenuous feigned confusion.

Edited for rule 0 and rule 12.

I have to disagree;I think they are just protecting Trump because he has R after his name and they like their tax cuts.
Agreed that their defense is disingenuous feigned confusion;it's all they have left.

Willingness to see ethnic groups threatened or suppressed in the name of one's own perceived advancement.

That's the very heart of ethnic nationalism.

Why do you assume he was talking about you? Maybe the prestige was talking about Joe Biden or his buddy Joe downstairs. You can't really know.
I quoted JoeMorgue verbatim in that post. No ambiguity there, really.

The only real issue was that I misread his argument. He's since corrected my mistake. I've thanked him for the correction and asked him if my corrected understanding of his argument was in fact correct. I'm hopeful that he'll answer that question at some point.

I'm guessing there's going to be outrage over such personal slander.

I care as much about that as they do about others.

Yeah, none of us saw any in Trumps tweets, either. He was just as clear as you were.

I think we've already moved beyond establishing everyone's subjective opinions of what Trump meant. Most of us are now at the point of arguing the relative merits of those opinions. Some of us have even gotten as far as personal attacks on people who have dissenting opinions. This usually signals the practical end of the thread. Now would be the point where I normally would let logger and fuelair have their way with it, but they're both gone. So I'm just going to step back and let whoever wants to fill in for them fill in for them.

I assume he meant what he typed.

Sounds good.

I can't follow this at all. Would you mind rephrasing your argument into something a little more direct and explicit?

Trump called out Somalia and similar countries as *********. Not anyone else. He doesn't like people from muslim or brown countries. He has been very clear about this. If you think he wasn't clear, you simply weren't paying attention.

Trump called out Somalia and similar countries as *********.
Last time I checked, there was widespread consensus that Somalia is kind of a ********.

Go to the CT subforum here, and you'll find plenty of anti-libertarian posts that use Somalia as their go-to example of the kind of ******** they say libertarianism will create.

Not anyone else.
Places that aren't ********* don't get called *********.

ETA (parting shot): Didn't Omar come to America as a refugee from Somalia? People aren't generally refugees from non-*********.

I think your post literally gave me cancer. I'm out.

Enjoy your thread, dude.

And just because Trump denies saying or meaning something later doesn't change that fact.

For example, today he says he disagrees with and wasn't happy about his crowd last night chanting, "send her back." There's a clip of him at the rally saying Omar should go back to her country if she doesn't like the US.

Trump pretends today he tried to stop the crowd because he "spoke very quickly".

This gaslighting is mind boggling because it works. It's also gaslighting to claim the Democratic Party is in some kind of upheaval.

And whether Somalia fits Trump's definition of a **** hole isn't the least bit relevant. The current news generating scheme is about Democratic members of Congress, not Trump's lack of international diplomacy.

There's a countervailing thesis that 'if a Republican does it, it must be bad'. That's what I think is going on here.

I mean, think about it. Omar is not a man. She's not white. She's not Christian. But Trump isn't attacking her on the basis of her race or her gender. He's attacking her on the basis of her ideas.
This is exactly the kind of equality that women are entitled to. This is exactly the equality that women have been demanding, that they have been fighting for generations to achieve. And it's exactly the kind of equality that Trump recognizes in his attack on Omar.

But because she's brown, you throw all that out, and assume it must be racism.

LOL! Never woulda thought that even theprestige is so naive as to believe that!

This is probably the most pathetic defense mounted since France '39.

This tired old "Well show me where he specifically mentions X or says Y" has been used to excuse Trump's bigotry for far too long.

Stop with the pretenses! He's a bigot. That goes far beyond racism in the Foolmewunz Big Book of People I Don't Want to Sit Next To. Bigotry is cross-burning rednecks.... conscientious and thought out. Racism is sometimes inadvertent like the feeble minded whose fears Miller/Trump prey upon.

His tweets were bigoted. Everyone knows that, including the secretaries of defense in this thread. Pretending otherwise is theater of the absurd stuff.

I am not so sure actually. No doubt it was rude crude and socially unacceptable, but I am not at all so sure it actually is racist. I am fairly certain is is more nationalism/patriotism than actually racism. I do believe that if anyone of any race were to take similar political positions having immigrated from a European country, Trump would have the same type of things to say. He is easily capable of telling a German to go back to his country if he doesn't like America, or a Frenchman, or even a Canadian, as he would those 4. It's just not many German or French Americans have politics anywhere near as radical as them.

The crowd on the other hand? I am sure there are many many Americans in this country that just don't like Muslims. Seeing as how we have been at war with Muslim countries for decades now, it is certainly there just under the surface. I personally don't think it is wise to tap into that, but Trump is after all at his core a New York Elitist Liberal who until snubbed by Hilary actually was most his life a Democrat. About the only way he can possibly get the conservative vote is to tap into something to distract voters from realizing that he actually represents what most of them don't like at all. And how do you do that? By focusing on something they dislike even more.
