The Trump Presidency 15

By declaring the origin countries of asylum seekers " totally broken and crime infested ", he implicitly admits that these people deserve refugee status.
I'm sure that's what he intended.

Guys, don't fall for it. Don't get drawn into "calmly and civilly explaining" why the President telling 4 non-white women, all of who are American citizens, 3 of whom were born here to "go back and fix their own countries" is racist.

He's also declared that Mexico is one of the most dangerous nations in the world, which causes problems for the new regulation denying asylum in the US to anyone who hasn't requested asylum in another country through which they've traveled, since it requires the country to be safe.

I'm not a Trump supporter but I am puzzled by the way this story appears to have been covered. The main point of contention is how to handle the large numbers of people fleeing undesirable conditions in their home country. So the President says:

“go back and help fix the totally broken and crime infested places from which they came,”

How does that immediately get turned into the classic racist/anti-immigrant comment:

"Go back to where you came from"

The meaning and intent of these two phrases is quite different. One is a solution suggestion, the other a racist/anti-immigrant slur. The media wasted no time ignoring the actual phrase and took off running with the one they made up.

I don't do twitter so I may have missed something, can someone help me out here?

You should go back to the country you came from and ask them.

I'll even settle for the "Okay it's bad but the Dems are worse and we can't let them score a point" at this point if they'll just address it.
Too soon. They'll admit it when they can get away without saying "okay it's bad," then they'll immediately shift to "look, everyone knows Trump is racist," without any stops in between.

Look at how Russian collusion was treated.

One comment didn't get turned into the other; Trump said both.

....the thing is, that this doesn't seem to be damaging President Trump or the GOP to any meaningful degree. :(.

There are a few cracks, chips are falling off. But obviously it's very few at the moment.

Gawd knows what they tell themselves. Some are in frank denial.

CNN: These GOP women see nothing wrong with Trump's comments
CNN's Randi Kaye speaks to a group of Republican women who say they don't have a problem with President Trump's racist attacks on four Democratic congresswomen of color.
It's a video I don't need to listen to, I've heard them many times. They are more racist themselves rather than knowingly lying.

Not saying there aren't plenty of liars for Trump. Hard to say which is worse.

Sorry, thread's moving too fast.

CNN panel of women Trump supporters. The squad are the real racists, who are lying about loving America.

I have been to Mexico several times, and although, like any country, there are areas and neighborhoods where you should not go,the mian danger I had was a case of "Montezuma's Revenge" when I got careless about which restaurants I ate in....

Trump's comments were quoted in the article I linked to, about the new regulation.

Under US law, migrants are allowed to claim asylum once on US soil. There's a caveat, however, for those who come through safe third countries, meaning countries that the US has entered into an agreement with. The United Nations' refugee agency defines "safe country," in part, as "being countries in which refugees can enjoy asylum without any danger."
But Trump's own statements on Mexico could undercut that definition. In tweets, the President has called Mexico "one of the most dangerous country's in the world" and claimed that the murder rate in the country has increased.

"The Coyotes and Drug Cartels are in total control of the Mexico side of the Southern Border. They have labs nearby where they make drugs to sell into the U.S. Mexico, one of the most dangerous country's in the world, must eradicate this problem now. Also, stop the MARCH to U.S." Trump tweeted in April.

Ahhh? Is the 'red scare' about to raise its ugly head again?

In some circles, it never left. When I would sometimes listen to raving lunatic Michael Savage for a laugh, he would occasionally rant about the Communist infiltration of our universities and how they were just waiting for the perfect opportunity to take over the US. Of course, President Obama was part of the plot.

Why would the Communists bother to "infiltrate" 4 junior members of the minority party in the lower house of Congress... when they own the President?

Did anyone else notice Trumps McCarthy moment yesterday? I heard it on MSNBC while driving home and it immediately struck me how similar it was to McCarthyism.

“I think it’s terrible when people speak so badly about our country, when people speak so horribly.” Trump replied. “I have a list of things here … said by the congresswomen that is so bad, so horrible, that I almost don’t want to read it. It’s so bad.”

He never read it (as far as I know).

Was the list a blank piece of paper?

Uh, the Red Scare returned quite a while ago.
Please note that Joe McCarthy is now a hero to many in the GOP.
ANother reason why I think the GOP is beyond redemption.
