The Trump Presidency 15

Hard to say whether this will ultimately be a good thing or bad thing.

Would have been nice to see them have to deal with the spectre of illegal payments in court. On the other hand, ending the investigation means that some material that HAD been previously kept from the public will now be released.

The part I don't understand is:

After Cohen made the $130,000 payment to Daniels, he was reimbursed, prosecutors said in court filings, by the Trump Organization. The company's executives authorized payments to him totaling $420,000, in an effort to cover his original payment, tax liabilities and reward him with a bonus, according to prosecutors, and they falsely recorded those payments as legal expenses in their books.

I'm baffled as to how the **** that doesn't constitute some form of charges? The words that are stated there seem clear cut that something illegal took place. What am I missing?

Precedent is a broken reed when Trump is involved
Have fun, guy;you are getting your own version of Donnie with Boris.
For what its worth, as bad of a person as Boris Johnson is, he has actually labeled Trump's tweets as "Totally unacceptable". (Although he did avoid labeling them as 'racist'.)

So, perhaps a glimmer of humanity. Or a glimmer of 'less of a scumbag'.

My guess:

The prosecutors looked at what they could actually get to stick in court, and decided it wasn't worth the effort. (After all, they already have their "fall guy" in Cohen, and the Trump Organization was one-step removed, so convincing a jury of their guilt might have been more difficult.)

I'm not sure if this means that it is possible to prosecute "Individual-1" (i.e. Trump himself), outside of the Trump organization.

So funny fact.

If you go on the US Government's official Equal Opportunity Employment Commission webpage:

https://www.eeoc.gov/eeoc/publications/immigrants-facts.cfm

and get to the section about "Harassment based on national origin" the motherpissing literal example the United States flippin' government uses to demonstrate "potentially unlawful conduct" is, and I quote:

executive order rescinding this law in 3, 2, 1...

Boris prefers 'Pickaninnies' with 'watermelon smiles'

...comments like, "Go back to where you came from, " whether made by supervisors or by co-workers.

But see, Trump isn't their "supervisor or co-worker", so it doesn't count.;)

It's not illegal, but it is still an "ethnic slur." It's a friggin government handbook example of an ethnic slur.

So the apologists can farg off.

You're right. For Trump to be considered a "co-worker", he'd actually have to be doing some work (spending his time golfing and watching Fox news while coming up with childish nick names for his opponents doesn't count.)

I'm not a Trump supporter but I am puzzled by the way this story appears to have been covered. The main point of contention is how to handle the large numbers of people fleeing undesirable conditions in their home country. So the President says:

“go back and help fix the totally broken and crime infested places from which they came,”

How does that immediately get turned into the classic racist/anti-immigrant comment:

"Go back to where you came from"

The meaning and intent of these two phrases is quite different. One is a solution suggestion, the other a racist/anti-immigrant slur. The media wasted no time ignoring the actual phrase and took off running with the one they made up.

I don't do twitter so I may have missed something, can someone help me out here?

Or, Lindsey is such a whore that you can't believe a word that's ever come out of his mouth. This ****** was at risk of being primaried in '14 by the Tea Party! Now he's trying to make Robert Welch look like a moderate.

Lindsay Graham is like a parody of the lying, two faced politician.

Because he said to go back to their country of origin, implying that they're not Americans.

Looking for an upside, I hope that at long last, people will no longer deny Trump's racism here on this fine forum.

I also hope for a pony.

Ain't gonna happen.
I am bitterly disspaointes that one poster in particular, who though I disagreed I had a lot of respect for, has become a blind defender of Trump.
Thing is, I think he knows what Trump is, but he is so blindly loyal to the GOP he will defend any GOP leader. I also think he might be in denial about what the GOP has become.

I'll even settle for the "Okay it's bad but the Dems are worse and we can't let them score a point" at this point if they'll just address it.

CNN says Trump has finally broken Washington...that any kind of governing is now impossible.
You know I kind of hope this is true. I think a catastrophic collapse of government in the US (taking the economy with it) is not inevitable, and the quicker it happens the sooner it will be over with. Better to rip a bandage off at once, despite the intense pain, then a slow even more painful process.
