I can't help admiring Carrie Symmonds kicking up such a stink. Apparently she was one of rogue taxi driver Worboys' victims and she came forward. So many women are cowed into keeping quiet for fear of not being taken seriously or worrying about the reputation of the man if they dare complain.

Crashing plates and furniture? Kudos! You go, girl.

IMV this type of row is likely triggered by jealousy. Perhaps a glance at BoJo's laptop revealed shenanigans with yet another female, so WHOOOOOOOOOSH!

It's one thing reporting (anonymously) to the police if you're worried that someone may have been hurt. It's a completely different thing to record the conversation and give the recording to a national newspaper.

Note the story is now that they only contacted the newspaper after the police had already informed them that no one had been harmed. Simply a smear campaign by anti-tory and anti-brexit newspapers aided and abetted by hateful neighbours.
They wouldn't have been able to record it of there hadn't been ask that shouting going on. Let's just all do the normal DV thing and pretend it's not happening.

And has been pointed out, there is advice to record such incidents anyway.

A domestic disturbance so loud that it could be heard in another's flat and the words used, particularly "get off me" which is suggestive of an assault, would have resulted in Johnson being arrested, most likely charged and put to court in Scotland. Symonds could also have been arrested, as it appears the disturbance had both of them contributing to it.

Clearly E&W has a more lenient attitude towards domestic disturbances, or is it because it was Johnson who was involved?

Do you think that people should have to tolerate other people's arguments? Is there no respect for privacy and peace and we should be able to live without being disturbed by the neighbours?

Can I live next to you and disturb you with my shouting, since you think it is wrong to take action to stop it from happening again?

If you are yelling loudly enough to be heard by your neighbours and of course you report it to the appropriate authorities before offering it to the newspaper why not? The neighbours in this case pretty much had Johnson's boorish behaviour inflicted on them without having any choice in the matter, at that point Johnson had abandoned any claim to privacy and I can't help noticing that you are once again more interested in some imaginary infringement of Johnson's privacy rather than his behaviour.

If I am that loud, I have disturbed you with my domestic problems, then you fire me in to the police, the newspapers or whoever you think should know.

Now, please answer my question.

Of course, if said neighbour hadn't recorded the row, Boris Johnson's supporters would simply have claimed that the whole thing was made up to make him look bad.

The neighbours were going to be put through the SoMe wringer either way, just look at the imam who had the audacity of asking Boris Johnson if he regretted stitching up Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe.

If BJ gets to be PM the UK has no chance of a negotiated deal, at all. He has no ability to negotiate a deal.

The UK will leave without a deal and then will be stuck with no deal for as long as he is PM.

Now you're concentrating on one part of one sentence. Interesting tactic.

I claim that you agree with everything else in my post, and that you're attempting to distract attention away from that by this 'claim' nonsense.
You're dodging, as usual. Pathetic.

And has been pointed out, there is advice to record such incidents anyway.
Absolutely. When I called the police regarding a domestic assault a few years ago I recorded the threats and screams.

But then certain people just don't care about such matters.

The neighbour didn't just 'hear' the row. (s)he held a microphone against the wall and taped the conversation before calling the anti-tory Grauniad. We don't know yet how much the neighbour was paid by the Guardian for the recordings.

Also wasted police time by calling them out - although to be charitable, we didn't know that their time had been wasted until after they'd attended and said that there was no need for them to have been there.

Would you want a neighbour that taped your conversations and passed them on to a national newspaper whenever you're having a domestic row? I wouldn't.

AFAIK that neighbour who made the recording, also said he was a Remain voter, and afaik he did know it was Boris Johnson who was in that house having a loud argument with a woman (though it seems to have been the woman who was particularly loud and mostly the one being heard by the neighbours).

So, it may well be the case that the neighbour treated this as a chance to show Boris in a bad light (given that Boris was heavily involved in the pro Brexit campaign, vs. the neighbour who says he is against Brexit).

However, Boris Johnson has a long career of making all sorts of objectionable comments about all sorts of things (or at least, many people have found his comments objectionable), and in recent years he does seem to behave and talk like an over-privileged bumbling oaf who in any other circumstances might seem to many of us a completely absurd and quite hopeless candidate for Prime Minister. So it should not be too surprising that he would find himself at the centre of some controversial incident at a time when he is more than ever under scrutiny from both the eyes of the public and the attention of the press (as well as opposition politicians) …

… IOW, he's someone who deliberately courts controversy. And now he's become involved in yet another one.

You don't know the London property market, do you?

Took the words out of my mouth. A 3 bed flat in a converted Victorian house, in a nice part of Camberwell, could easily cost that much. The whole area was common as muck when I went to school down that way, but it's now seriously gentrified and 'desirable'.

Let's look at Dump as a possible bellwether. It's been three years since he came down that escalator. Three years of endless lies and actions that harm his base as much as anyone. Where does he stand now?

Not much has changed, actually. His polls remain basically unchanged (dismal, mind you, but steady). His approval among the GOP is over 80% and few other GOPers have had the cojones to get in his face.

I have seen a few articles along the lines of "well, maybe he wasn't a good choice" and some stating they were taken. But I'd guess that such losses are like Hawking radiation: it'll take a loooooong time to have an effect.

That said, outside the Deplorables, I think there has been a big shift in opinion of our prez and I'd guess that trend will continue. But again, the shift outside the base is probably "wobbly", to borrow from the Iron Lady. I can imagine some recidivism, especially if the damn fool gets the USA into a hot military conflict.

tl;dr version. You're right that change can happen but it's not easy nor rapid and there's a certain percentage (20-25% ??) that are immune to any facts , no matter how damning.

You're absolutely right, but also absolutely missed the point.

First of all, take the stellar approval rating Trump has among GOP members with a shovel or two of salt. GOP membership isn't something innate to anyone, it's a voluntarily held association with a party that can be revoked. The sky-high approval ratings are, in part, due to this self-selection, people who are associated by GOP and view the party and the president as broken are more likely to leave the party than those who adore him. The exact same effect is in play with Tories and Brexit. This drives up the internal party results and skews them towards adoring Trump/BJ/ what have you. That's also why revolution in Venezuela a couple of months ago fizzled out. Millions left in the months and years prior and those were by far the most disgruntled. They robbed the opposition of the critical mass to topple the government. The same process is going on in GOP, Tories and many other places.

Second and much more improtant, you don't need to convince 90% or more of the public he's a piece of feces. He is and will remain such, but even of 80% of his party and 30% of independents would happily offer him an orfice of his choice to have fun with, that's still maybe 40% of the electorate. If 10% are undecided (how I don't know), but 50% hate his guts and will vote for just about anyone to keep him out of WH/10DS/... he has his work cut out for him.

That's why the gradual shift is so important. Yes, it's gradual and slow, but just a couple of percentage points can mean huge differences in end results. With FPTP these changes are even more pronounced and with gerrymandered FPTP the results can be horrific for the side that did the gerrymandering, if it's the one that is at the recieving end of this Hawking pressure.
