The Trump Presidency 14

Trump is so good at losing. No one else has come close. Sounds like he's done it again; come up with a losing formula. From Time Magazine:
Trump, who lost the popular vote in 2016 and is the only President in the history of Gallup polling never to crack 50% approval, says he’s ready to defy that legacy. “I think my base is so strong, I’m not sure that I have to do that,” he tells TIME, after being asked whether he should reach out to swing voters. Link

Realistically he can't. If he "reaches out to swing voters" he'll lose some of the knuckle draggers in his base. It'd probably be a wash.

It reflects his basic lack of understanding of the core functions of government and his role as president. Every other official will at least claim that he's striving to serve everyone, even if they don't appreciate it. Trump has never pretended to be playing to anyone except his base.

The fact she told two people about it at the time who have corroborated it. The fact 15 other women have claimed he attacked or behaved physically sexually inappropriately with him. The fact his own ex-wife claimed he violently assaulted her. Granted, she later walked back that claim but one has to consider the fact that this occurred after she had signed an NDA during their divorce. I strongly suspect her allegation was addressed in their divorce agreement to his favor. The fact he said on tape that he's a "***** grabber" and can get away with anything because he's a celebrity. The fact that he is a pathological liar. There are more reasons to believe her than not.

All this. And her account and demeanor in her TV interviews has been persuasive, particularly her deep feeling of guilt that it must have been her fault somehow. That's a common attitude among assault victims.

I was especially struck by her claim that there were no sales clerks in the area Trump took her to, and the dressing room was not locked, where in her previous experience at Bergdorf's those rooms were always kept locked and a clerk supervised their use. This is a high-end store; it's hard to believe they would leave a department unattended, or that Trump wouldn't fear someone surprising him. I couldn't help but wonder whether rich celebrity Trump asked for and got some "alone time" in the lingerie department.

At the request of Democrats, I have delayed the Illegal Immigration Removal Process (Deportation) for two weeks to see if the Democrats and Republicans can get together and work out a solution to the Asylum and Loophole problems at the Southern Border. If not, Deportations start!

Two weeks.... long enough for his supporters to forget he promised to begin deporting millions.

In other news... Oregon's experiencing an interesting time. Chinese curse interesting time, that is. Democrats have super-majorities in both the House and Senate. So, what are the Republicans doing? The State Senate Republicans have all been repeatedly not showing up, so as to deny a quorum, preventing legislation from passing. It's gotten to the point where all of them have quite literally fled the state and they've involved right-wing militias to complicate matters further when presented with the threat of being compelled to actually attend and vote, aka, do one of the most important parts of their jobs.

On the other hand, I don’t recall any of the Democrats threatening to shoot law enforcement officials. When the Oregon governor threatened to send state troopers to bring back the legislators, Oregon state senator Brian Boquist said, “Send bachelors and come heavily armed."

Easy solution for the Oregon Dems. Since these senators are not showing up for work, give them a time limit to do so. If they break the time limit then they have resigned from the position. They are out of the legislature, full stop. So their seats become "casual vacancies" that will need to be refilled by elections. If the recalcitrants then try to stand again, the opposition cry will be "You were elected once but failed to turn up for work and do your job. Why would we vote your lazy asses back in again?"

This is a really simple principle that every business would approve. If you employ and pay someone, and then they refuse to turn up at the office and actually work, you fire them and replace them promptly. And don't employ them again if they re-apply. The business-friendly GOP would surely agree. ;)

I was wrong when I claimed that 16 women have made accusations against Trump. The number is actually up to 22, by specific, named women.
Dead people don't come forward. So that number doesn't include any women and girls that he may have murdered.

Yeah, that’s why I didn’t get too bent out of shape when I read about the Republicans doing it up north.

Mmm. I do also notice another distinct difference in the situation. Opposition to gerrymandering =/= opposition to taking action on climate change. In the former, the Republicans were trying to mess with the system for partisan gain. In the latter, the Democrats were trying to address an issue of note via the proper use of the system.

Boquist's threats are just more evidence of how the GOP doesn't actually care about police, though, despite their opportunistic propaganda. Otherwise known as... "We support the Police when they're after minorities and immigrants."

Worse than a wash, hopefully. He's shown us who he is hundreds of times now, at the least. Anyone who would believe in such a change of heart is likely rather gullible.

Actually, this about the 16th woman who has accused Trump of assaults of one kind or another, mostly made public before he was elected. So in a sense it is common. But the network news shows and the major newspapers have reported Carroll's accusation, including interviewing her on camera. It's also a case of "he said, she said" about something 23 years old. I personally believe her completely, and two women have told reporters she told them about it after it happened, but there's no supporting evidence and it's too late to press charges. So there's really no place for the mass media to go. And his followers will always believe him over anybody else.

ETA: Kellyanne Conway's husband believes her, too.

The assault as described would be rape in the first degree, which in NY has no statute of limitations. Furthermore, the clothing she wore was hung in a closet and never laundered--there could be DNA evidence thereon...

But she has stated she does not wish to press charges. For one thing, she says she has long ago moved on. For another, she says this would be an insult to other rape victims. That last one I cannot comprehend. And if she really does not want to press the matter, then why in blazes bring it up now?

I do want every victim of Trump to come forward. And those who may have a strong case should bring the bastard to account in court. If Caroll's clothing has some stain of the demon's seed on it, nail the ******.

They'll make this change to their state constitution by fiat...or...?

Some commentators have said that the "no statute of limitations" rule only applies to crimes committed after the law was changed. The laws that were in effect when the crime occurred in 1995 or 1996 would be controlling. (Non-lawyer here, so I dunno.)

She's not "coming forward" against Trump. She's written an autobiography, which includes descriptions of several assaults by men going back to her childhood, and Trump is one of them. And she says, rightly or not, that many victims have suffered much more than she has, and that it would minimize their experiences to compare herself to them.

This just after Trump threatened to have a Time journalist sent to prison, ostensibly because he tried to take a picture of yet another letter that Trump was putting on display, but really because he asked an uncomfortable question.

Because I'm sure it will be the 28th horrible story I have in TIME Magazine because I never — I mean — ha. It's incredible. With all I've done and the success I've had, the way that TIME Magazine writes is absolutely incredible.

"Some day within the next 20 years," he said, "maybe you'll pick me as Man of the Year. O.K., big deal."

Oh, good lord. If TIME has been so horrible to him, why does he give them an interview? I suspect it's because he craves a favorable article about him from TIME. He's obsessed with their Person of the Year cover as evidenced by him creating a fake one and exhibiting it in his golf resorts. Even though he was named Person of the Year in 2016, it was not for a glowing reason:

"For reminding America that demagoguery feeds on despair and that truth is only as powerful as the trust in those who speak it, for empowering a hidden electorate by mainstreaming its furies and live-streaming its fears, and for framing tomorrow’s political culture by demolishing yesterday’s, Donald Trump is TIME’s 2016 Person of the Year,"

Trump's narcissism needs TIME's approval and he just hasn't received it.

Oh, look! He's trying to look 'presidential'! Maybe he can take down the fake TIME magazine cover at his golf resorts and replace it with this one.

Can't. He thinks it's real. Who among his confidants is going to tell him it's not?

So, trump threatens the Iranians and then backs down and now he has done the same over ICE raids.

I see a pattern here.

Don't forget the Fire and Fury facing North Korea, whose Dear Leader is now Trump's best bud.

Can you imagine the uproar from the GOP if Obama had 16 women (or 1 or 2) make claims of sexual harassment/assault against him? He had none. Not one.

Clinton got impeached for a consensual BJ.

Let's not go over the cliff. I don't think anybody's accused Trump of murdering anybody.

Multiple immigrants have died because of his policies. Including young children.
