The Trump Presidency 14

So what do you suggest? NOT trying to work across the aisle? How's that working for ya so far?

I guess the issue is that if the other party are zooming off to the right at an alarming rate and have repeatedly in the past acted in bad faith then what's the point.

To my (admittedly biased) eyes, it seems to have worked like this (over a period of months or years)

The Democrats want A, the GOP wants E.

After reaching across the aisle, the Democrats propose a compromise C. The GOP declares that this is unacceptable and that the Democrats refuse to work with then and by the way, their new position is H.

The Democrats reassess and propose F (beyond what the GOP were asking for in the first place). The GOP say this isn't good enough, that the Democrats are traitors who are refusing to work to help the US, oh and by the way, their current position is K.

Chasing a moving target like that with a group who seem to have no intention of accepting anything other than their terms seems like a fools errand to me and results in the Democratic Party adopting policies which run counter to the interests of their core support in an attempt to garner support from groups who wouldn't vote Democrat in any case.

Today's "centre" is the extreme right of 30 or 40 years ago.

No, actually. In his press statements he again calls it a "mistake" but uses it in a way which implies "accident":

Yeah, Iran sure is lucky it was an UNMANNED drone. If it had been a manned one they'd be in big trouble.

trump, in the same breath, called it both a 'mistake', implying an accident, and a 'foolish move', implying an action with intent.

When he called it unarmed, he really meant unmanned, and then started blathering, the way he does, about not having someone in the drone. Drones are, by definition, unmanned, so once again he was just spilling his brain porridge because he never really prepares for any of these things.

Just revealed that the Failing and Desperate New York Times was feeding false stories about me, & those associated with me, to the FBI. This shows the kind of unprecedented hatred I have been putting up with for years with this Crooked newspaper. Is what they have done legal?...

And now he's cementing his idiocy with this:

"I'm not looking for war, and if there is it'll be obliteration like you've never seen before. But I'm not looking to do that."

Even in his claim that he's not looking for war, he has to make it the greatest obliteration of all time if it does. Ye gods....

Yes, Donnie. Telling the truth is legal. I know you hate that.

Does anyone here believe Trump when he says he called off the strike on Iran because he only thought to ask what the estimated casualties would be 10 minutes before? I don't.

I bet Bolton was disappointed, though. So close to attacking Iran...so close.

It looks like a contrived and cynical attempt to exploit a moral high ground.

Will probably work.

Agreed. There is no way none of his advisers, especially his military ones, did not advise him as to the human toll which would result. He's lying through his teeth again. I'd act surprised but I'm no Meryl Streep.

And if they did, the total was probably 15 or so. Of course The PDJT had to exaggerate it.

Does anyone believe that the most minimal attack that the US could have mounted would likely have killed 150 Iranians? When fewer than 10 Syrian soldiers were killed in the attack on the Shayrat airbase, which involved more than 50 missiles?

US Intelligence gathering is often in real time or up to the minute. It depends on whether the gathering technician is in direct or indirect contact with the President/WH during the report. So any assessment made hours prior is sorely out of date and likely inaccurate. Things change.

Regardless of the death toll estimate, I'm glad President Trump did not take military action swiftly. It was a good call and wise leadership.

Journalist and former TV and radio celebrity alleges that Trump raped her in a department store dressing room 25 years ago.

(Her account of the encounter with Trump starts about halfway through the lengthy book excerpt.)

Of course, Trump makes it worse. His statement claims the article is a lie because he never met her.

The article contains a picture of them together.

It really depends on the targets selected and the number of staff present at each during the planned attack time. We don't get the type of info that would allow an informed speculation unless it is released to the press.

Hilited:

And had he flattened four thousand square kilometers along the coast and killed seventeen hundred, this would've been your reaction:

Regardless of the death toll, I'm glad President Trump took military action swiftly and decisively. It was a good call and wise leadership.
