The Trump Presidency 14

He is immensely popular, though. Between those that love him and those that love to hate him, he's making out better than Old Man Kangaroo.

I think you're mistaking attention for popularity. True, all the negative coverage fulfills the old "there's no such thing as bad press" adage, but that adage is a lie. Ask Hillary. Ask Howard Dean. Negative coverage hurts.

By this standard, all the people who loved to hate Hitler meant he was really really popular... in the media that was slamming him and his policies.

I just realized that the Trump Presidential Library will be in Mar-a-Lago.

Why do I expect that researchers will be charged for each personal document that they view?

When they really (unless they verify a felony) need to be for is processing them to make toilet paper!!!

But it doesn't hurt Mrs Trump's little boy.

His popularity rating is the same as it's been right for the past 18 months.

No scandal, no lie, no terrible policy makes a difference to his support. You want to erode his support? Find the pregnant woman he paid to have an abortion.

And then what?

President Trump will say she is lying. Then his followers will be faced with the choice of admitting they were suckered or of sticking by him against the slanders and libels of the FAKE-NEWS corporations. If you would like to make a wager, I have picked the outcome I consider more likely.

Alternately, the Mulligan option.

Trumps "Trump card" is that the Republican party is the party of nationalism and borderline fascism. They'll praise their dear leader as long as he shows glowing national pride and flag waves. Afterall he realizes he could "stand in the middle of Fifth Avenue and shoot somebody and not lose any voters."

Hence the same idiots that claimed Obama was "divider and chief" or the anti-christ are the same ones relentlessly praising Trump and claiming he was anointed by God despite him being the closest thing to a Mob boss we've seen in a modern president.

This guy would literally burst into flames if he walked into a church but the evangelicals love him. He says he loves America and literally hugs the American flag. What more could you want??

:hit:

I look at what the people of Hong Kong are doing to protect their democracy and Americas hand wringing on TV and social media. Some contrast.

He does but in no time he convinces himself he isn't.

My humble (honest folks, it is humble, believe me) opinion is that Trump doesn't ever think about whether he's lying and doesn't consider that there would be any point in doing so. Rather, he just says what's most convenient at the time. My basis for this opinion is the number of times that his lies contradict his previous lies.

A valid hypothesis.
When liars say one thing on one day and says the opposite on the next day, they often try to tap dance the discrepancy away by arguing that the statements aren’t really contradictory or that new information came to light or some other line of BS.

When President Trump is accused of doing that, his response is more along the lines of “who the **** do you think you are to question me. There’s no contradiction. Furthermore you need to listen to what I am saying now, you fake-news spouting, disrespectful twat.”

I think it's more likely he just says whatever he thinks will make him look good in the eyes of everyone else - and he's too stupid and unempathetic to figure out what this actually is. A good part of why he never managed to get into high society in Manhatten is that his idea of "class" is really just obnoxious and gaudy to everyone else.

Unfortunately and confusingly, that's what good skeptics do all the time.

It’s clear to me that Trump internalized at least these two mantras from Roy Cohn and Roger Stone:

1) Never, ever, admit error.

2) Never, ever admit fault for bad outcomes and blame others, but always take credit for good outcomes.

And he sticks to those religiously, with zero regard to contradictions or falsehoods. To try to eke out an admission of error from him is a fool’s errand. Trump just won’t be pinned down, and has skills in this arena. At least enough skills to keep 40% of the electorate on his side.

There was a rare case when he publicly apologized for the "grab 'em by the ____" statement, but he quickly recovered and floated the idea that the tape was doctored.

Why would that be different from him cheating on his wife with a porn star days after his son was born? Try something that would actually hurt his popularity not something else they would ignore.

Very glad to see Mexico working with President @realDonaldTrump to up their game and deal with immigration from Central America.

I hope Democrats will do the same.

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. “I think we have a very real risk of losing the Presidency to Donald Trump.” I agree, and that is the only reason they play the impeach card, which cannot be legally used!

Only Fake Polls show us behind the Motley Crew. We are looking really good, but it is far too early to be focused on that. Much work to do! MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!

Big Rally tomorrow night in Orlando, Florida, looks to be setting records. We are building large movie screens outside to take care of everybody. Over 100,000 requests. Our Country is doing great, far beyond what the haters & losers thought possible - and it will only get better!

The point is, you only need to get to 5% of his support to make the difference between President for Life and a new one next year.
