Trumps "Trump card" is that the Republican party is the party of nationalism and borderline fascism. They'll praise their dear leader as long as he shows glowing national pride and flag waves. Hence the same idiots that claimed Obama was "divider and chief" or the anti-christ are the same ones relentlessly praising Trump and claiming he was anointed by God despite him being the closest thing to a Mob boss we've seen in a modern president.

When liars say one thing on one day and says the opposite on the next day, they often try to tap dance the discrepancy away by arguing that the statements aren’t really contradictory or that new information came to light or some other line of BS.

When President Trump is accused of doing that, his response is more along the lines of “who the **** do you think you are to question me. There’s no contradiction. Furthermore you need to listen to what I am saying now, you fake-news spouting, disrespectful twat.”

I think it's more likely he just says whatever he thinks will make him look good in the eyes of everyone else - and he's too stupid and unempathetic to figure out what this actually is. A good part of why he never managed to get into high society in Manhatten is that his idea of "class" is really just obnoxious and gaudy to everyone else.
