Not proven guilty. Trump is innocent. Mueller quits.

lol

"I want to get people to mock me, so I make trolling comments."

Like, why? It's such a weird pattern of behavior. It's intellectually lazy, adds nothing to the conversation, and proves that you'll say things that are knowingly false. I just can't figure out what is acquired from this type of nonsensical attention seeking.

Trump tweeted:

"Nothing changes from the Mueller Report. There was insufficient evidence and therefore, in our Country, a person is innocent. The case is closed! Thank you."

So even he is now walking it back to "insufficient evidence" rather than "no evidence."

It seems to me that Mueller went out of his way to make it crystal clear that they made no effort to bring forward charges against Trump because in his belief it would be unconstitutional for the DoJ to try him, and therefore unfair to charge him, since there could be no trial.

Trump doesn't seem to want to discuss that part.

Quelle surprise.

I'm still just stunned that this immunity exists.

It incentivizes staying in office at all costs, through violent overthrow if necessary.

"The die is cast" wasn't Caesar making his mind up on the spot to march his army into Rome, he was saying that ship had sailed years before when he bribed and cajoled his way into power in the first place.

He's made it as obvious as he can: the DoJ is not allowed to bring charges*, and it's unethical to accuse someone of a crime if you can't charge them for it, but he CAN say that Trump didn't NOT commit crimes, cough cough impeach cough.

*Horse crap, says I. They can charge whomever they need to. It's just more following norms in the face of a party which defies them.

Trump reminds me more and more of the Bad Guy in Lethal Weapon 2, the Evil South African Diplomat who commits crimes in plain sight.
I guess killing someone when you have Diplomatic Immunity is the same as not killing them at all ... according to Trumpsters' logic.

Everyone now understands that if the President can get either the Senate or the House to follow anywhere, the President can get away with anything, maybe even staying in office forever, because impeachment is the only remedy.

Once responsible people control all of Congress and the Presidency, we need a law passed that overrules that OLC opinion.

I thought it was neither, and that he was simply saying that there was no turning back from that point.

By definition that law would be unconstitutional.

Why? What part of the constitution says that the President can't be criminally indicted while in office? My understanding is that the power to impeach does not forestall indictment.

Mmm. So, no denial of the claim that there were indictments prepared for Trump and sitting on his desk that just didn't get submitted. Just the point that he knew that he couldn't actually charge Trump, given the constraints that he was working under.

I don't view a memo that was prepared to achieve a specific political purpose to be that binding, but... as I've noted before, Mueller was being cautious to the point where he could be considered a coward in his charging decisions.

The ****** thing about all of this is that even though it came out of Mueller's mouth, it will still be ignored. He basically said this same thing verbatim and Trump supporters just handwaved it away anyway. This changes nothing.

It's not that it's directly stated it's just the end result of over 200 years of people trying to stretch "the system" as far as it will go.

Okay here's (sorta) how we got here.

1. The Constitution only codifies two ways to "deal with" a President; the 25th Amendment which allows his cabinet to remove him if he is unfit and impeachment. Neither of those works in our current partisan atmosphere.

2. Every other possible recourse is legal which becomes problematic when the person in question is head of all law enforcement in the country by definition.

None of that makes it "Technically" impossible, just that every way of doing it is untested.

Said on another forum and I can't word it any better than this:

"Trump obstructed the investigation into an attack on American democracy by a foreign adversary. Not too long ago, nearly everyone in the country would have been calling for Trump's impeachment over that -- including most Republicans."

it's in direct violation of the 14th Amendment.
This section?

Section 3. No person shall be a Senator or Representative in Congress, or elector of President and Vice President, or hold any office, civil or military, under the United States, or under any State, who, having previously taken an oath, as a member of Congress, or as an officer of the United States, or as a member of any State legislature, or as an executive or judicial officer of any State, to support the Constitution of the United States, shall have engaged in insurrection or rebellion against the same, or given aid or comfort to the enemies thereof. But Congress may, by a vote of two-thirds of each House, remove such disability.
