Here's a really good article. It explains the three real causes of trans identification. The vast majority of FtM trans in the developed world are AGP, but it's the smaller number of HSTS people (who are relatively reserved and don't get turned on by being in women's spaces) whom the public usually thinks of when they think of transwomen.
Gender dysphoria is not one thing
You will find trans advocates who loudly declare that this is discredited junk science and "debunked". They've had a concerted campaign to make it appear so, but it's the real deal. As Blanchard says, there's a lot of denial going on with these guys. He is far from being without sympathy for them, and recommends transitioning for appropriate cases, but he also advocates counselling and self-help groups for men who realise they're autogynaephilic and want to avoid going down the all too common route of becoming a "tranny". Like this poor woman's partner, and many others.

This is what we're dealing with. Autogynaephilic males with a strong streak of narcissism make up the trans lobby and have almost succeeded in getting complete unfettered access to all women's protected spaces and categories. They have presented themselves as the experts in trans matters, they've written policy and dictated procedure and formulated guidelines. All the while telling the politicians that no impact assessments were needed (of granting males access to women's protected spaces!) women's rights were not affected and women's organisations didn't need to be consulted and in fact should be excluded because they're all bigoted transphobes and that is bad.
And you know how they justify saying that women's rights aren't affected? Well you see, transwomen are literally women, biologically, in every way. As they have lady brains the bodies these brains are in are literally female (cock and balls and all), and so women-only changing rooms, prisons etc are still women-only. Why would a woman have a problem seeing another woman's body, they ask reasonably.
It's easy when you know how. And you have a lot of money being thrown at you by rich AGP men in the tech industry and drug companies who are quite ecstatic about the upturn in sales of puberty blockers and cross-sex hormones. Not to mention the fortunes being made by people setting up as paid advisers on trans issues, and surgeons who are happy to rearrange anyone's bits at a very high price. Paid for on daddy's health insurance in the USA.
They've even fudged the criteria for being trans so that if you look at it one way it's not a psychiatric illness because that would be hurtful and anyway we don't need no psychiatrists, but if you look at it the other way it is a recognised mental health condition so that US insurance companies will pay out for the hormones and the surgery.
There are a lot of people making careers out of this and a lot of them are getting very rich. I even saw a travel-brochure-like page exhorting trans youth to come to some exotic tropical location to have their "top surgery" done. It's a racket.
