2020 Democratic Candidates Tracker

A lot of people on Twitter are now saying Warren is #canceled because she was a Republican until 1996 when she changed her registration. I, personally, think this is remarkably stupid but some feel that anyone that supported Republicans is beyond all redemption and need to be punished. Amazingly part of their argument is that the Reagan administration was dumping drugs into black neighborhoods and ignoring AIDS which are both things that were only realized after the fact and still the subject of much debate.
I've read this a number of times and still cannot connect the third sentence to the first two.

This just increases my basic belief that the Dems have managed to grow their own version of Tea Party Fanatacism.
But keep it up, guys, you arer going hand Trump reelection on a silver platter.

What is your actual objection to their argument?

Many/most/(all?) of that 26% are conservative-leaning independents, or outright republicans.

I'm not following your logic at all.

Joe (Hamlet) Biden is about to get off the fence:

Joe Biden is running. The former vice president will make his candidacy official with a video announcement next Wednesday, according to people familiar with the discussions who have been told about them by top aides.

How old is Joe Biden? He would immediately on taking office become the oldest man ever to hold the job. He would be older on Election Day 2020 than Ronald Reagan was when he left office in early 1989.

The "Creepy Joe" thing that many of us assumed would be disqualifying? Most of us also assumed that Ralph Norwood would resign as governor of Virginia after the blackface and Klan photo in his yearbook became public, but he's still around.

Dudalb would be much more comfortable not voting for a feckless centrist than not voting for a charismatic progressive.

I get the impression he will vote for any Democrat, but his concern is that a charismatic progressive may lose too many votes in the center and hand the election to Trump. On this latter point I tend to agree with him.

I suspect y'all think that because you're conservatives yourselves.

It's more than a concern for dudalb. He guarantees it.

so in essence people who think this way are the ones handing the victory to Trump on a silver platter.

I don't get it. Why not vote for Warren? Is she not to the left enough? Or is it Bernie or bust?

American politics is just getting more and more broken.

That 26% are almost definitely overwhelmingly independents and republicans.
ETA: They are probably a lot of the "BernieBros".

She "betrayed" Bernie Sanders in the 2016 primaries and waffles slightly on Medicare for All, therefore bust, or some such nonsense.

But dudalb manages to conflate all of that with people like us who sincerely believe Sanders is the best choice to put up against Trump, and he's not too radical. Working from the current center doesn't work. It could use some moving to the left already.

I think the center makes a lot of America warm and fuzzy, but doesn't get them to the polls. With trust in leadership at abysmal lows, a candidate marginally aligned with your views, but solid in holding those views is a better bet than a candidate who is for-sure everything you like, you bet, promise, cross-my-heart and pinky-swear...to everybody.

If a small crowd at a town hall event or a brief twitter storm shake their principles, why would you expect they could stand up to K Street in D.C.?

ETA: I don't think its an American phenomena, however. I think the most successful centrist (local Overton Window) in the last few years within the OECD is Macron. How's that going? It leads to paralysis because the nominal opposition knows it can show a pretense of dialogue while simultaneously going full obstruction (another example: Obama's terms). One man's total jerk is another man's unwavering example. People want resolve, they want someone who's saying "we're doing it this way, by the way there's lots of positions to fill to get it done, so roll up your sleeves and get on it or piss off." How's Theresa May doing trying to find a cozy route through that doesn't make anyone too mad?
