Anti-Muslim Terrorist Attack in... NZ?

Let me tell you a few things about Destiny Church that you probably won't find in their brochures....

1. Members must sign an oath of loyalty and obedience to Brian Tamaki

2. There is a protocol for interacting with Tamaki - you must always be respectful, you must stop talking when he speaks, you must never disagree with him in front of others and you must stand when he and his wife enter a room and you can only sit when they sit.

3. Tamaki once thought Destiny Church would rule New Zealand

4. Tamaki blames gays, murderers and sinners for the Christchurch Earthquakes of 2010 and 2011

5. Destiny Church is patriarchal, women are considered weak.

6. Destiny Church raises members to be ready for war. Tamaki has repeatedly stated that it wants power. His blackshirts marched on Parliament in 2004 against civil unions. It claimed the government was "evil" with a "radical homosexual agenda".

Tamaki is a power-hungry, manipulative scumbag
Destiny Church is a Cult, not a church, and its a fraud
Their "blackshirts" are morons.

A Never heard of Destiny Church before
B. It goes on my "Wackjob and PotentiallyDangerous Cult" list. In fact, it sounds like a textbook example of such.
C. Keep it in New Zealand; we already have too many just like in the US....

Unfortunate, this viral infection has already spread to Australia.

I don't have much respect for Jordan Petersen also, find his attitude toward women to be reprehensible , and lot of his other books to be the usual selfhelp claptrap with intellectual pretenstions (though I share his mistrust of a lot of postmodernism) but calling him a gateway to racism is a bit much.
And this is the problem I have:Where do you draw the line:Who decides what is harmful racism and what is not? You could probably prove that just about any writer is somehow "a gateway to racism"?
It all come back to "Who Will Watch THe Watchers"?

Yeah, I definitely have a problem with censoring political views no matter how reprehensible. That even goes for Holocaust denial. I think Germany has it wrong there, although I completely understand the reasons why expressions of Nazism etc are illegal.

That doesn’t mean that all video and all material gets First Amendment protection, as well you know. If there are certain criteria such as commission of a crime such as murder, sexual exploitation of children, and terrorism, then there are grounds for making these things illegal. Also, I don’t remember your take on Wikileaks and classified information. Who watches the watchers in those cases?

Been out of fashion for sometime so not surprised they are making a comeback. When I was a kid I'd say it was the exception to not see women in headscarves.

Oh yes, back in the days when a bikini was considered shocking and women were supposed to be pious and demure. Maybe we'll be witnessing a return to those days.

You mean like in the 1960s and '70s when the hippies made headscarves popular again and wouldn't use bathing suits at the beach? They weren't exactly pious and demure so I look forward to a return to those days ...

Once again, he is not being censored. One chain of bookstores has made the business decision not to stock his books.

Pretty cool pic'

One of the police guarding the cemetery where another 26 burials are happening in a mass funeral service today

Much respect taken really

Worth noting for those who don't know anything about Whitcoulls.

It is a Kiwi institution, with origins over a century ago. It has always prided itself as a family-friendly store, doesn't stock porno videos and books, doesn't have anything contentious. The owners simply decided books by a dirtbag were inappropriate.

They probably stopped stocking Michael Jackson products as well.

Meanwhile, in a fairly predictable move, Twatter is under fire again for its magnificent AI system not stopping direct death threats to the Prime Minister.

If it was an attempted joke, the person who posted it is going to have some time to try laughing about it inside Mt Eden jail. If it's not meant to be funny, I'm guessing the poster made the post via TOR or VPN, because if the person is locatable, quite a few Kiwi cops want to talk to you.

What the hell is wrong with these people?

Also noteworthy is that every case I've seen of people charged post-shooting with offences related to distribution of the video or hate speech has been held on remand. No bail allowed.

You'd think that would be some deterrent on its own.

Unless it is Hitler

Give me a break

I don't even think it is kiwi owned any more

How about this humorous ditty sitting proudly on the shelf

"Jihad: Blood and Slavery"

Peterson is about as controversial as a fart in public swimming pool

Have JP's books been banned, or have just some bookstores decided to not sell them?

If it's the latter, then that is just an example of "the marketplace of ideas" doing its thing and rejecting Petersons claptrap.

Peterson, the capitalist free market warrior that he is, should be first in line to support that, but for some strange reason, I doubt he is.

(As an aside, Peterson has no idea what postmodernism is, and if you "share his mistrust" you are admitting that you don't understand postmodernism either)

Book store chain

The largest in the country

A lot of people either take his non weirdo climate and religion stuff out of context or have never actually watched it.

Kind of like public versions of Cathy Newman

I've watched a whole bunch of the videos he's posted on his youtube channel, watched some of his debates (not many of those, because he is obviously afraid of debating people who actually know what they are talking about), watched several of his so called "lectures", and even read one of his books.

I still think he is a clown and a pseudo-intellectual charlatan. A snake-oil selling fraud. Without "taking him out of context".

Either way, if the market decides that his output has no value, then as I said, he should be the first to applaud that. He loves capitalism and what it does.

Fair enough

Debating the point in this big a deal has no place on this thread anyway, so all good.
