I was citing the "record" just based on number of massacre deaths, not that it had a related cause.

We could go back further. There was the Boyd massacre of 1809 with 66 deaths. Before that was the revenge attacks following death of Marion du Fresne in 1772 with about 250 deaths.

There were also massacres during the New Zealand Wars in the 19th century with even greater numbers of deaths exceeded 1,000.

He is reported to be Australian. He probably will serve any sentence imposed on him then sent back to Australia. Of course if he does have NZ citizenship that would be stripped off. But would it be a race to who can do that first?

The above assumes that the person in custody is guilty. I would hate to think what would happen if the wrong man was in custody.
 
A new story about the arresting officers apprehending the shooter...

Those "high risk items" in the cargo area were almost certainly the two red gas cans. This suggests that the gas cans (explosives) never left the station wagon. All the reports of various vehicles having attached explosives now seem to be false. I had thought that maybe he placed those two cans on or next to cars near the Linwood mosque but now it seems that he didn't do anything with them.

Yes. The shooter himself covered most of those criteria. Those willing to kill or bully over skin colour or where ones ancestors were born are not very rational or tolerant of other characteristics they do not find apealing either.

Lets face it if white supremicists in Australia or the US were true to their beliefs they would **** off back to whatever parts of Europe it was dertermined they originated from. But realistically, white supremacy belief is really just about self entitlement and selfishness at its core. "I want and deserve this because I have the magic skin colour and my ancestors are from an arbitrary location that is better than anyone elses relatives arbitrary location." I have read the online manifesto of a white supremicist group illegally putting up propoganda posters around a place extreemely local to me and it reads alot like this scumbag shooters ideas. Makes me concerned they are related and that this turd is not alone. It is interesting to note that the cowards digitally obscure their faces on the pictures on the website, and vet potential recruits via e-mail questions.

Arnie did, George Galloway did, John Major - PM of UK - did. The only one who reacted like that fascist, that I know of, is John Prescott, and he only did one reaction punch to a fully grown adult.

I never understood this either. 'Right wing' or 'white supremacist' ideologies can create such monsters but Islam somehow cannot (in spite of ample contrary evidence, all along history). Some are prepared to sacrifice even Churchill as a 'hater' (see his remarks about Islam as being akin to fascism) in order to defend their, already lost, utopia...

The problem is of course that there is indeed a strong reason to argue that Islam is a form of proto-fascism, finally by accepting that it is a formidable enemy to democracy and secularism does not mean that you subscribe to the 'far right' ideology (or in the words of Dawkins the fact that you have x in common with some radicals, justified after all, does not mean you accept also y , z and so on).

These being said all such attacks have to be condemned in the strongest possible terms.

This is why there is nothing wrong with putting armed guards outside of mosques, even if they are thousands of miles from Christchurch. Some kind of copycat attacks were and are inevitable.

It also puts the lie to the pro-gun claim that if guns are not available the perpetrators will just easily find something else to do as much damage. A car against a gate? A hammer? A baseball bat?
