The Trump Presidency 13: The (James) Baker's Dozen

Or why are the democrats so hopeless Trump could beat them?
They weren't. Trump only barely beat Clinton, and that's with foreign collusion. Less than a 100 000 votes spread out over several critical states is nothing in a country of hundreds of millions of people.

Edit: I think the polls predicting an 80% chance of a Clinton win were entirely accurate.

Indeed. It wasn't just foreign collusion, of course, though. It's very possible that that tipped the scales just enough, but internal shenanigans fairly certainly played far larger role. "Rogue" FBI agents putting out fake leaks, for example. The whole mess of Clinton conspiracy things that was created and blown so far out of proportion by the GOP that it's not even funny, too. How the MSM covered the candidates with an eye on their profits over all. The whole long-term anti-democracy push by the GOP as they gradually and increasingly made disinformation and voter disillusionment key parts of their strategies in service to the manipulations of ultra-wealthy selfish actors.

Anyways... random story drop time.

Kentucky GOP passes gun law allowing permit-less conceal carry, against police protest

Republicans love to act like they admire the military and police… until the military and police get in the way of their extremist agenda. Then, Republican lawmakers spit in their faces and enact their insane plans anyway.

The latest example is in Kentucky, where the legislature just passed SB 150, which will allow people to conceal carry guns without a permit once it’s signed by embattled Gov. Matt Bevin.

One can easily contrast this to the Democrat's efforts to do such incredibly anti-gun things as... close loopholes in requirements for background checks.

On a different issue that's also rather problematic... Republicans in state with highest rate of child marriage (Idaho) vote to keep it legal.

Idaho’s statehouse Republicans killed a bill that would have created a minimum marriage age in the state, essentially cementing the state’s continued reign as America’s number-one hot spot for newlyweds too young to vote and/or drive. The Idaho Statesman reports that HR 98, which would have eliminated marriage licenses for those 15 and under, and have strengthened the consent requirements for those 16 and 17, failed by a vote of 28-39, with 3 abstaining.

House Republicans outnumber House Democrats 56-14 in the Gem State, where the youngest Idahoans to say “I do” in the 2000s were just 13 years old. Yet Idaho is just one leader in a disturbingly crowded field.

It hasn't gotten much attention, but even as Pres Trump has been trying to denuclearize North Korea, he is helping to nuclearize Saudi Arabia. A country that can't be trusted with a bone saw shouldn't be trusted with nuclear weapons. My Sunday column: http://nyti.ms/2VqMA14

Article embedded in tweet. Contains some information that I didn't already know about the relationship between Kushner and the Saudis - most notably that the company that bailed Kushner out to the tune of $1.1b is the same company that is trying to sell nuclear power to the Saudis.

Can Netanyahu survive his own Trump-style 'witch hunt'?
https://edition.cnn.com/2019/03/03/...ion-trump-witch-hunt-analysis-intl/index.html

The bombshell announcement Israel has been awaiting for two years has finally arrived: the Attorney General intends to indict Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in three separate corruption cases.
It is the biggest blow to Netanyahu since the investigations were first publicly disclosed at the end of 2016.
Like his good friend US President Donald Trump, embroiled in legal issues of his own, the Israeli premier has denounced the corruption probes as a media-led witch-hunt, fueled by fake news. Appealing to his supporters in a primetime address Thursday, Netanyahu said these intended indictments were a result of extraordinary pressure from the left, their only chance to bring him down, since they could not do it at the ballot box.
Same problem, same approach. No surprises there, then.

Even if he wins the election on April 9 and puts together the right-wing government he promises, he will soon face his next challenge: Trump's peace plan.
Netanyahu hasn't issued any major public statements endorsing or rejecting the Trump administration's "Deal of the Century." That's fine, because his potential coalition partners have done that for him.
The leader of one right-wing party, Naftali Bennett, called the plan "a clear and immediate danger." Another has made it clear his goal in joining the government is to stop Trump's plans from coming to fruition.

And this has left Netanyahu in an uncomfortable position. If he accepts the plan, he loses his coalition. If he rejects the plan, he loses Trump.
That's nonsense, in my opinion. Netenyahu won't lose Trump. When the deal fails Trump will blame the Democrats, the Israeli globalist left (), the Arabs, maybe even Jared Kushner, but never Netenyahu.

<snip>

How many children have died in US detention camps as 'illegal' aliens? What about those prisoners who have been denied water and died of dehydration in US prisons? Should every visiting head of state to the US blame Trump for events in the US prison and detention system? For torture by US agents and deaths of many innocent women and children as collateral damage? The words mote and beam come to mind.

Yes.

And in anticipation of the predictable responses, so should other U.S. Presidents for such abuses which occurred on their watch.

Of course, there is the problem of some of those visiting heads of state being concerned about their own glass houses as they choose the stones they might want to throw.

GOP's anti-Muslim display likening Rep. Omar to a terrorist rocks W. Virginia capitol

Angry arguments broke out in the West Virginia statehouse on Friday after the state Republican Party allegedly set up an anti-Muslim display in the rotunda linking the 9/11 terror attacks to a freshman congresswoman from Minnesota.

One staff member was physically injured during the morning's confrontations, and another official resigned after being accused of making anti-Muslim comments.

The display featured a picture of the World Trade Center in New York City as a fireball exploded from the one of the Twin Towers, set above a picture of Democratic Rep. Ilhan Omar, who is Muslim.

"'Never forget' - you said. . ." read a caption on the first picture. "I am the proof - you have forgotten," read the caption under the picture of Omar, who is wearing a hijab.

Omar tweeted about the incident later on Friday.

"No wonder why I am on the 'Hitlist' of a domestic terrorist and 'Assassinate Ilhan Omar' is written on my local gas stations," she wrote.

The display was set up as part of "WV GOP Day," which the party advertised on Facebook as a day when "Republicans Take the Rotunda."

Does anything more need said?

Even by Trump standards that speech was unhinged. It'll be what six month until Fox gives him the 11-5 timeblock on Sunday for Aló Presidente?

Since when was Socialism about the power of the ruling class? Isn't it by its very definition about the power and rule of the working class?

It's been said before, but time to say it again. Trump is an idiot, and so are those that follow him blindly.

Is it worth pointing out that that BS didn't originate with Trump? Again, Trump's capitalizing on the disinformation put out by the GOP for years. Fairly certainly buying it, too. The GOP is overwhelmingly responsible for creating the situation. Trump's just taking advantage of it.

A committee of the US House of Representatives is seeking documents alleging obstruction of justice, corruption and abuse of power by President Donald Trump and his aides.

Judiciary committee chairman Jerrold Nadler told ABC news that 60 individuals and entities would be receiving requests from Monday.

Including Don Jr.

I guess there's no more than a 30% chance he might randomly incriminate people on something major, to avoid something minor.

I just imagine him as being the sort of person who'd defend his father from a charge of jaywalking, by saying he was busy robbing a bank.

I hope Junior's testimony is public -- he's the worst liar I ever saw. The look on his face is like a 12-year-old who knows you know he's lying but tries to act like he's offended you're even questioning his honesty.

My wonderful daughter, Ivanka, will be interviewed tonight by Steve Hilton on “The Next Revolution.” @FoxNews 9:00 P.M. She works so hard and has achieved so much for the U.S.A.(and gets so little credit!). Then watch Mark Levin at 10:00 P.M., a great show!

What does she work hard AT? Dodging tariffs for Chinese imports? Seriously, she is not even an official government employee, as far as I can tell. Classic nepotism.

Also, Trump bigging up his daughter on global tweets...ick.

Presidential Harassment by “crazed” Democrats at the highest level in the history of our Country. Likewise, the most vicious and corrupt Mainstream Media that any president has ever had to endure - Yet the most successful first two years for any....

...President. We are WINNING big, the envy of the WORLD, but just think what it could be?

Or, more exactly, "What the **** is wrong with 40% of us?"

Perhaps the question to answer is why the 60% let the 40% get away with it.

Ya gotta be careful with the numbers. One of the problems is that so damn few Americans vote that it hard to state what Dump's core support really is but I'm pretty sure it's not 40% nor do the Dems merit 60%.

That said, whatever Dump's support is, it is too large....way too large.

I see a better educational system as one key to turning us around. I wish a presidential candidate would say, like Bush, Sr. (I think) "I will be the education President" and then put his/her words into effect. After all, there is a good reason the GOP finds it so easy to be anti-educated people as "coastal elites". Generally speaking, the more you know, the more you make better choices and that does not benefit the GOP.

For the Democrats to interview in open hearings a convicted liar & fraudster, at the same time as the very important Nuclear Summit with North Korea, is perhaps a new low in American politics and may have contributed to the “walk.” Never done when a president is overseas. Shame!
