The Trump Presidency 13: The (James) Baker's Dozen

Absolutely true. I just hope some of the digging into Dump-related white collar crime spreads out to other high rollers in finance. I'm sure Dump's not the only one who has played fast and loose with laws and regulations.

It's one of the reasons why GOP big wigs fear for 2020: no big donors need the scrutiny that comes from giving money to a Trump campaign.

Indeed. I sometimes wonder why the Republicans don’t accuse the Democrats of bath8ng in the blood of newborns. Or of eating the flesh of toddlers.

They don't? Suckling pig is reputed to be quite good, though, isn't it? ;)

There probably is (think "tax returns")

Trump has never really attracted any great level of scrutiny, and he's always been able to get what he wanted by yelling angrily at people and smashing his fists on the table.

All that changed when be became president. He thought that it would make him all-powerful; that he could have his enemies investigated and jailed, that the Attorney General was there to protect him from investigation, that he could gain control if the alphabet soup, ride roughshod over Congress, bypass checks and balances, avoid oversight and do an end-run around all the inconvenient stuff such as the Constitution, the Rule of Law and due process.

Being elected president is possibly the worst thing that Trump could have happened to him.

Despite the seemingly unprecedented level of Republicans running interference for him.

"Then there must be something, mustn't there. Look, forget the myths the media's created about the White House--the truth is, these are not very bright guys, and things got out of hand."

To add to this and make it more general... Michael Cohen's opening statement has been leaked, apparently. Looks like there are bombshells about Wikileaks, the Trump Tower Meeting, Campaign Finance violations like the above, Trump Towers Moscow, other bits of fraud, and plenty more.

Those in favour of doing X intelligently are not allies with those in favour of doing X haphazardly.

This time, I will agree with you. But then... I'm pretty sure that my stance on those matters has remained fairly consistent, regardless. I'm not much one for caring what some caricature of the left supports, regardless, though. Nor am I frequently impressed at the "friendly" advice from Republicans about how the Democrats should practically be Republicans either.

To add a couple more things for tonight... McConnell's a ******* ******. He's trying to turn massive voter fraud by Republicans into something to bash Democrats with. Democrats didn't and don't support blatant attempts at voter suppression under the excuse of preventing voter fraud via pointedly ineffective measures. Now that there's a major case of actual voter fraud in the news (which, again, those Republican measures would have done nothing about), he's trying to jab at Democrats for opposing Republican efforts to undermine election integrity and misrepresenting the Democrats' stances as horribly as one might expect McConnell to do.

Oh, and to poke at the situation of detained migrant minors a bit... Data shows nearly 5,000 allegations of sex abuse of migrant children in 4 years

The U.S. government says there were nearly 5,000 complaints of sexual abuse and harassment of migrant children in government-managed shelters over four years.

The allegations released Tuesday include inappropriate touching and showing pornographic videos.

Data from the Department of Health and Human Services include information from both the Obama and Trump administrations, from October 2015 through September.

Vietnam is thriving like few places on earth. North Korea would be the same, and very quickly, if it would denuclearize. The potential is AWESOME, a great opportunity, like almost none other in history, for my friend Kim Jong Un. We will know fairly soon - Very Interesting!

The Democrats should stop talking about what I should do with North Korea and ask themselves instead why they didn’t do “it” during eight years of the Obama Administration?

I have now spent more time in Vietnam than Da Nang Dick Blumenthal, the third rate Senator from Connecticut (how is Connecticut doing?). His war stories of his heroism in Vietnam were a total fraud - he was never even there. We talked about it today with Vietnamese leaders!

I support a minimum wage. I do not however believe in a minimum guarantee for people “unwilling to work” which was the question asked of me.

Jesus H. Christ, Trump is still going on about Richard Blumenthal's military record, now bragging about having spent more time in Vietnam than Blumenthal ever did.

A bit rich though, coming from someone who got out of serving by claiming bonespurs - which, as Cohen will testify to later today, was completely made up.

He may not have served back then but he has been the Commander in Chief for two years! That has to beat being drafted surely?

Fiat Chrysler will be adding more than 6,500 JOBS in Michigan (Detroit area), doubling its hourly workforce as part of a 4.5 Billion Dollar investment. Thank you Fiat Chrysler. They are all coming back to the USA, it’s where the action is!

Indeed. It is almost as if he has some sort of mental condition which incessantly compels him to say stuff like that.

I’ve heard it summed up thus: Memory says “I did that thing.” Pride says “I would never do that thing.” Pride wins.

All false reporting (guessing) on my intentions with respect to North Korea. Kim Jong Un and I will try very hard to work something out on Denuclearization & then making North Korea an Economic Powerhouse. I believe that China, Russia, Japan & South Korea will be very helpful!

And to people associated with him, such as Manafort and Cohen (and Trump's family, of course, but that fun's to come). They got away with their sleaze under the standard level of scrutiny for decades, now they're behind bars. :D

What did Trump do to make this happen? He's taking credit but based on what?
Three years ago, FCA set a course to grow our profitability based on the strength of the Jeep and Ram brands by realigning our U.S. manufacturing operations," Mike Manley, Fiat Chrysler's chief executive officer, said in a statement. Link

Does he take credit for this, too?
Fiat Chrysler announced plans Tuesday to cut 1,371 employees at its Belvidere Assembly Plant in northern Illinois... Link

Looks like it's just more of Trump's self-serving fake news.

Brace yourselves people. Not for Cohen's appearance -- although it should be pretty juicy. But for spittle and adjectives the likes of which have rarely been seen flow here daily.

Doesn’t everyone understand that he is trying to work towards denuclearization? (He won’t succeed, but that is his intention).

Who is guessing about his intention? And what are their guesses?

I guess he wants a good kimchi and fried chicken outlet in Trump Towers Pyongyang.

Seriously, it is good the USA and North Korea are talking, just wish the person doing the talking for the USA wasn't a quarter-wit ( he has some work to do to become a half-wit!)

He's been pretty damned close to correct so far. People keep saying "oh, this house of cards is gonna tumble any minute now," but it hasn't happened yet, has it?

Another problem is that he doesn't understand that "denuclearization of the Korean peninsula" includes removing US weapons from the area. North Korea has stated that clearly.
