Hoo boy, the ******* dopes lawyers are doubling down.

Bring in the ******* feds and let the sweet taste of “process crime” justice roll over this ******* grifter.

*not a process crime, because the grifter made up the hoax on his own

Got any links to this Not a process crime deliciousness?

He's not giving up yet! Awesome, I love this guy! What entertainment!!! Seriously good stuff.

He's just inviting the feds to nail him for the letter (there was discussion here that they may not bother)

“Mr. Smollet is a young man of impeccable character and integrity who fiercely and solemnly maintains his innocence and feels betrayed by a system that apparently wants to skip due process and proceed directly to sentencing,” read a statement sent out late Thursday on behalf of the Empire actor.

“Today we witnessed an organized law enforcement spectacle that has no place in the American legal system,” the hyperbolic statement added. “The presumption of innocence, a bedrock in the search for justice, was trampled upon at the expense of Mr. Smollett and notably, on the eve of a Mayoral election,”.......

Maybe he's just a drug addict. We know he does drugs. That would explain some of this. The guy isn't living in reality.

ETA: Best thread ever.

Speaking of the police, why in the hell did they assign 26 detectives to this pathetic case? It was never a big story. A guy got mugged, whoopee. This is frickin CHICAGO! Hello!!! People are being killed right now!

Part of the problem is OMG he's an actor! One good thing about the internet is that all these celebrities, people we think of as almost godlike, get to show how stupid and utterly normal they actually are.

I watch Youtube more than movies or TV. We don't need you celebrities anymore. We can CG you if we do. Carrie Fisher is dead and acts better than a lot of these idiots. Okay that's enough ;)

As a narcissist, Smollett will pay huge amounts to his lawyers to go full throttle not guilty. His personality disorder will not let him confess or apologize or plea bargain or anything like that. He will fight until his last penny. Geragos might be thinking that he could end up getting most of Smollett's money.

Definitely worth a read, that one. Who brought the popcorn?

This is the new norm. Being a victim is more prestigious than accomplishing something.

Remember back when people were saying that all the helicopter parenting, all the trophies given to losers as well as winners was going to raise a bunch of pathetic whiners?

Now look what we have - a rise in socialist politicians and attitudes, people staging hate crimes ("Fag" birthday cake, woman who lied and said cop was mean to her, church desecrations, hands up don't shoot...) more entitlements than ever, young healthy people on the streets because they refuse to work. Yes, some do choose this.

People who grew up with no sense of responsibility. Do you see kids mowing lawns anymore? Pulling weeds? Hell -- even going outside? I rarely do (never the first two).

I had a job when I was 14. My step-brother had a paper route in 6th grade. We didn't need to work to survive, we were being taught how to grow up. I'm not an old man shaking my fist here, this was important and it isn't done anymore, far as I can see.

Sorry if I'm going off-topic a bit but that's what comes to mind when I read this crap.

The person who works hard and earns nice things - they used to be envied, now they are the enemy. Now get off my lawn.

It’s just . . . baffling. The police have dug up the whole story and that’s what we get from his camp? As high-falutin’ as Mark Garagos is, why would he be willing to go down with this ship?

Nothing makes sense here. Is there another layer to this whole thing we haven’t seen yet?

Not sure if anyone else has said this yet because I haven't read everything for the past few pages, but I saw some people confused how doing this could result in him getting a pay raise.

I don't think it's hard to imagine at all.

If this had succeeded and he'd done the interview circuit and came out of it with name recognition many orders of magnitude beyond what it was before, and he had massive numbers of sympathizers, and he had a huge boost in Twitter followers, mentions, he's all over the news, etc. - I think it's not unreasonable for him to have felt that would have put him in a better bargaining position for a raise on Empire.

Or have just naturally resulted in that.

Or he might've thought maybe people would raise money for him or some rich black star might give him some money or who knows what. The fact is, he sensed it would bring money, fame, and opportunity and it was/would have. He wasn't wrong.

Didn't Smollett fold in his 2007 DUI, et al., case in LA to take a plea deal? I don't remember, so maybe not, but I suspect a plea deal is in the works here. After that, both Smollett and his attorneys can continue to allege Smollett's innocence while explaining the racial and homophobic bias of the police, prosecutor, media, and public at large were just too great for a fair day in court.

It does seem a bit boiler plateish. We'll see what happens.

It seems to me that this whole incident could not only make an excellent end of season for Jussie's character but serve as a way to write him out of the show as well.

Picture this.

A hip hop artist isn't getting the recognition and fame he feels he deserves in a highly competitive industry. He tries the letter trick and it pans out just like it did in real life so he decides to up the game, you all know the rest of the story.

The feds nail Jussie's character on the white powder charge and the last scene in the season ending episode has Jussie's character being transported in a prison van with a black hood on and chained up like Hannibal Lecter.

The van stops, the hood is removed and the first thing Jussie's character sees is a sign.

Welcome to Guantanamo Bay.

Fade to black with the sound of a cell door slamming shut.

Maybe this is just part of the whole "We're in an alternate Universe" thing. Now the fictional and rational timelines are starting to run together, much like in that Italian movie The Icicle Thief.

Not only for a raise on Empire, but for movie offers, etc. This literally could have made him a movie star.

When that piece of subhuman filth Michael Vick can be worshipped after torturing and killing over a hundred dogs I wouldn't be remotely surprised if Smollett's career is not negatively affected in the long term. What Smollett did is nothing in comparison.

He's been in one movie that people might find very satisfying to re-watch right about now. And a second one that could really be hard to take seriously after this episode.

BREAKING: Jussie Smollett's character to be removed from 'Empire' for the remainder of the season, producers say.

Guess his crocodile tears and his moron attorneys stunts did not work.

/fun fact, one of his security guards yesterday coached one of TBD's kids in football.
