Prosecutors said Smollett and Abel Osundairo met in Chicago later that day, and that Smollett allegedly expressed his displeasure in how his studio had responded to a racist and homophobic letter he said he had received days earlier. He allegedly asked Abel if he and Ola could help him stage an attack.

So he thought he could use the letter as leverage to negotiate a higher salary. When that didn't work, he came up with the plan to stage the attack. So was it all ultimately just a way to get more money?

Me too. I'm not buying it. I think he did it for SJW attention. Watch (or re-watch) his Good Morning America interview and you can see how much he relishes the attention.

Agreed. I don't get it. I can't see my employer offering a raise just because I got mugged. They base their raises on this thing called merit.

I too would be pretty upset if I was only earning $1 Million a year, plus whatever I got for other gigs.

Imagine if it had been heard.

It was the most bizarre thing I have ever heard and witnessed. I distinctly heard "this is MAGA country!" in an African accent and it was a black man's voice, if I may say so. I looked and saw some form of dance and then I saw the red hats and I knew then that these bundled-up men in the bitter cold must really want America to be made great again. As far as I could figure it was three black men but for the life of me I don't know what was going on. Because nothing made any sense. I'm not sure which one was yelling about MAGA as there was all sorts of hollering.

There may have been punching and wrassling but it was all poofy poofy like kittens in snow. Then two ran away as if they had forgotten and then remembered their laundry was sitting in a dryer somewhere getting wrinkled. I thought maybe the remaining guy didn't have any laundry or that he never left anything in a dryer that night.

I just had no idea and couldn't imagine what on earth. Calling the police did not seem to be appropriate because I didn't feel that any one of them would want to be bothered with that. I decided that I needed a very large glass of vodka.

yeah. me too. wish I made 65k year much less weekly for an avg 18 weeks.

He declined the security because that's not what he wanted. He wanted higher pay.

Maybe it went something like this:

JS: You guys need to pay me more because look at these risks I'm taking on. Someone out there wants to kill me. I need to hire a bodyguard.

Studio people: We can't offer you a higher salary but we can offer you security if you feel like you're in danger. (they called his bluff)

That may have been a lie that he told the brothers. All they can do is tell cops what Smollett said but they can't prove he was telling the truth. That could even apply to other things. Smollett lies to the brothers about something. Then they tell it to police and it's assumed to be something factual.

Right now Smollett might be thinking "OMG they are repeating the lies that I told them."

If that is actually the truth then he would have had a hard time explaining it to the brothers.

"You see, I want everyone to be looking at me and I want love and sympathy to cover me like a giant warm blanket. I need your help with that."
 
Well what would have happened if everyone believed him, no attackers caught, and he still gets no pay raise? Does he just keep ramping up the hoaxes until he scores? Does he go postal and start shooting people at Fox?
 
Ok, according to the proffer, they are not accusing these three amigos of the letter. Also, the attack was timed based on a preplanned trip to Nigeria. Interesting that they pushed the attack time later because the flight was delayed four hours. So the original attack was planned for 10ish? Also, the proffer cites video of the brothers running away to a Hyatt Regency, where they catch a cab home. This is after a video recorded uber ride to get there, presumably using their own phones to use the uber app. And personal checks for payment, and using their usual phones, which they also deal mollys on...seriously, no pity at all for this merry band of nitwits.
