The Trump Presidency 13: The (James) Baker's Dozen

I'm pretty sure that what Lawrence showed was the prepared script, with the *anticipated* applause points and thus where to pause for them. Not some massaged after action report. But that latter document might yet be written, knowing that crowd of addled fantasists... :boggled:

Well, I'm sure Pence didn't anticipate having to follow Merkle saying that US-led alliances have collapsed or the applause Joe Biden got for saying, "We will be back."

Today more than 50 countries around the world now recognize the rightful government of Venezuela. The Venezuelan people have spoken and the world has heard their voice. They are turning the page on Socialism and Dictatorship; and there will be NO GOING BACK!

With the utmost respect, I thank President @realDonaldTrump for his leadership on the Federal School Safety Report, and for including my ideas. This is the most progress we, as a Country, have ever made toward School Safety!

You'll never get the full story from the media, but since the moment I lost my beautiful princess last year in Parkland, President @realDonaldTrump has been gracious & 110% supportive of my family. Anytime I've asked for help, he has delivered. GREAT President! #FixIt

Our country is making unprecedented progress thanks to the fact that we finally have a president who is keeping his promises and putting America first.

Well, the fact that Trump said he didn't need to do it, was a bit of a giveaway.

That actually gives zero indication that this Emergency is any different from the other Emergencies that have been declared.

Oh so all those other presidents admitted it wasn't an emergency two minutes after they declared a national emergency?

Even with Trump I'm not a massive fan of this sort of "Lay person mental diagnosing via what they see the person do on television" thing.

He's got some issues and he's certainly.... broken in some aspect, but I'm not in a rush to pin some specific diagnosis on him. Mostly because I don't think it matters.

Had the opposition party (no, not the Media) won the election, the Stock Market would be down at least 10,000 points by now. We are heading up, up, up!

As I predicted, 16 states, led mostly by Open Border Democrats and the Radical Left, have filed a lawsuit in, of course, the 9th Circuit! California, the state that has wasted billions of dollars on their out of control Fast Train, with no hope of completion, seems in charge!

The failed Fast Train project in California, where the cost overruns are becoming world record setting, is hundreds of times more expensive than the desperately needed Wall!

But tonight I say, we must move forward, not backward; upward, not forward; and always twirling, twirling, twirling towards freedom!

Why is the admitting the important part?
Another flatulent response. Are you keeping regular?

You've missed a trick with your "32 National Emergencies". By the end of the sentence that could easily be 35, or even 37, and in the next line "up to 40 or more". Even a short post could effortlessly get you to "people are saying hundreds, thousands even", and with every increase the significance of Trump's National Emergency shrinks. Your Dear Leader shows the way : why do you not follow? Not losing faith, are you?

Oh I agree about a specific diagnosis. With the following caveat.

As you say, Trump is broken in some very obvious ways*, and these are getting more obvious as the pressure of the presidency (and age?) takes its toll.

I don't know how someone with the sort of mental illness that Trump has is likely to behave when put under severe stress, when given access to nuclear weapons. I can think of some people, like David Koresh, who preferred infamy and death to ignominy and life.

The fact that his behaviour is so abnormal and getting stranger should be enough to require an independent, clinical psychologist, to examine whether he is fit for the job, or whether he is likely to go postal.

*if someone is presenting classic symptoms of something not-unexpected, then it's quite possible for a lay person to get the right, or at least an effective diagnosis - after all, that's the basis of first aid.

Why is the admitting the important part?

Because, even if the courts rule that the National Emergency Act, as written, gives the president discretion to decide what's an emergency, immediately admitting that it isn't really an emergency is admitting that that's not at all what he's doing.

Who said it was? The point is that Trump's emergency we know is not one because he told us.

to quote Skeptic Ginger out of context, but because it's also relevant as a response here:

Um, because it's ******* obvious.

Because Trump is reading the stage directions along with his dialog.

There's an open secret, unspoken "I'm totes doing this for political reason but everyone knows that and is playing the same game" to 99% of politics. Hell that subtext is politics.

Problem with Trump is that A) he does it with things that aren't political footballs and B) he has not concept of just not outright saying it.
