the cpd seems to think they were the ones in the video

but it does seem at least to some posters here that we're not supposed to question why the police say they gave new evidence and let them leave

You asked if we were expected to believe their presence was coincidence. The answer is no, no one expects us to believe that. The post ahead of yours said "The reason why they were there is now central to the investigation and we can't get into that at this time". That means "not coincidence". The fact that they were released without charge doesn't contradict that. We don't even know if that will be a permanent state.

Some posters seem to have a strange agenda, that's for sure.
 
Right now, pending more evidence, I'd have to guess that the brothers are involved in a conspiracy, and their lawyer negotiated them out of any charges in exchange for info on the people responsible for the conspiracy.

The most likely reason is a publicity stunt for Jussie and the show.

Such a conspiracy could be carried out by simply using Jussie as a pawn, or Jussie could be involved.

One other thing I'd like to point out, if this is a conspiracy, the US Mail was used to facilitate it. That adds another level of charges.
 
One other tidbit that I find interesting.

Jussie received a horrible death threat letter. The letter shows a gun shooting Jussie.

He then apparently declined to have a security guard provided.

He then went out walking by himself in the dead of night in Chicago.

That is correct. She also said that they (her and her clients) are baffled as to why they were taken into custody and interrogated because they are totally innocent.

We know lawyers say these kinds of things even with guilty clients. But if true, it could mean that the brothers weren't even part of a conspiracy. Maybe something like, yes they were there and not by coincidence, but they were completely unknowing patsies.

Perhaps the warrant receipts don't really indicate what they might seem to indicate then?

After all, the FBI is investigating the letter, and has been since it was received, and I don't see any mention of the FBI being interested in the two brothers.

Rafer Weigel is a local Chicago TV news anchor and reporter. His dad, Tim Weigel was a long-time sports anchor who died young and his kids Rafer and Jennifer went into the business. He may not be Edward R Murrow, but he’s not a conspiracy theorist or troll.

The Chipolte Gang is a strong contender for the third. Crosswalk Cathy is an honorable mention.
 
There is an inverse ratio thing going on here, where as this attack gets less horrifying to the public, it gets more horrifying to Smollett.

We were told that the FBI is working with CPD. We were not told about in what capacity. FBI might be shadowing CPD for every single bit of this case. They might make suggestions to CPD about what to look for with a warrant. FBI might have its own warrants which we are not privy to at all.

It's interesting that we don't get to see the actual search warrant which would comprehensively explain the probable cause. We saw that early on with the Guyger/Jean case.

The Osundiros are no longer considered suspects by investigators, whose full attention is now focused squarely on Smollett, according to well-established sources.
