Just want to remind everyone that CPD said very clearly that these two Nigerians were the two people in the stills they posted.

Through s meticulous investigation, #ChicahoPolice detectives have identified the persons of interest in the area of the alleged attack of the Empire cast member. These individuals are not yet suspects but were in area of concern and are being questioned. Investigation continues.

The warrants sure look like really strong info that people who live in the raided home are involved in the letter and the attack.

I have to wonder what info was used to obtain the search warrant?

You can't just get a warrant because you want one.

You have to have some info that will convince a judge that you should be allowed to search the place and collect evidence.

if they were involved and if smollet was collaborating with them it isnt an attack anymore rather some "play acting between consensual adults"

what crime would they be liable to be charged with?

smollet on the other hand would then have been lying to the police in filing a report

im guessing they want to cross the t's and dot the i's first before going public on that

Well, Gugielmi said that Smollett is still considered a victim.

If that's true, then the story of the Nigerians is really, really, odd.

I'm not particularly versed in Illinois law, but if this incident were a hoax and Smollett were charged with a crime, anyone who knowingly helped to stage that hoax would be accessories to the crime.

IANAL but there are generally statutes which make it illegal to assist in the commission of a crime.

The brothers release makes the story very odd now. Can't say I know how it will turn out. If it is a hoax, its a pretty weird one.
 
Let's think of some possibilities.

1. The brothers are simply innocent, and were able to show it.

2. The brothers rolled on Jussie as an accomplice, in exchange for dropped charges.

3. The brothers rolled on a third party as an accomplice, in exchange for dropped charges, and the police are not sure if Jussie was involved.

I would think if the brothers were totally innocent, and could show it, we'd have a really mad lawyer on TV by now.

Perhaps the "new evidence" is that the Ningerians have an alibi for the time in question. The "additional investigative work" may consist of "Oh crap, we have nothing!"

And there's always the Magic Scooter.

Okay, but they were apparently held for most of the 48 hour limit.

If we go with an alibi, then it took them two days to provide it to the police.

It could be phone records retrieved by their lawyer.

It could be that they can show they were not in the area.
In that case, CPD would look very silly.
Suppose they were in Nigeria, for example?

I'm concentrating on that warrant and the search, though.

That seems most significant to me. How did they obtain the warrant, and what happened with the results, which looked a lot like they'd found the guilty parties?

The 2 men who were arrested, then released Friday night, in the Jussie Smollett case are pro-LGBTQ and anti-Trump, which has people on the "Empire" set scratching their heads.

We've spoken with "Empire" cast and crew, and they say Ola and Abel Osundairo do not fit the profile of racists and homophobes -- not even close. As we reported, both men have been extras on "Empire" for years and both are friendly with Jussie, and Abel is especially close to him. We're told Jussie would frequently approach the brothers on set and chat about health and fitness.

Our Empire sources say Abel especially is an ally of the LGBTQ community, and neither have ever said anything positive about Trump. They're both big Obama fans.

Chicago police said Friday night two persons of interest in the alleged attack on "Empire" actor Jussie Smollett are being released without charges.

The men have been confirmed to be the men seen on surveillance images of the scene of the alleged incident. Chicago Police tell ABC News the reason the men were on the scene is now central to the investigation.

"Yes, they are confirmed to be the men on scene by surveillance video," Chicago Police said. "The reason why they were there is now central to the investigation and we can't get into that at this time."

I must admit I haven't followed every detail, but are we asked to accept that the only two people caught on camera at the time and location of the attack just happened to be two extras from 'Empire'... but they had nothing to do with the incident?

That would be the exact opposite of what was posted in the post immediately ahead of yours and I don't think anyone has said what you just said.

I have brought that "coincidence" up before. We have three people on the streets of Chicago in the dead of night and they all happen to know each other and work on the same show.

It's the dead of night in Chicago, in the dead of Winter, it's really cold and windy, and Jussie Smollett decides to go take a walk to Subway. The only two other people on the street just happen to know him, and work on his show, and they are carrying a noose and a small bottle of scented bleach, and they attack him.

So it very clearly says that the men seen on CCTV at the scene of the incident have been released without charge.

Which is kind of exactly what I said.
