We know Russia helped Bernie against Hillary - but he has never admitted that this played a role in his campaigns' popularity.

I doubt it was ever demonstrated they had any significant effect in that particular regard.

Some of Bernie's legit US "base" was made of such weirdos (conspiracy theorists, misogynistic knuckledraggers) whatever messaging the russians (and GOP) were doing would have just been useless repetition the non-crazies were adept at shooting down or tuning out. Unless the Ruskies were promoting core policy positions like universal healthcare and social security expansion, that is.

Not AFAIK, but there was targeted propaganda to claim that Bernie was cheated by Clinton through the DNC, and that Trump had more in common with Sanders than Clinton, because unlike her, he was wasn't in the pocket of Wall Street.

Most people who voted for Sanders already thought the DNC tilted the tables to favor Clinton.

Anyway, you can't blame Sanders for what Russia does.

Might have suggested it before but:

What we need is for all D-candidates to get together for a weekend, have some drinks, play some poker, and have a Gentle(wo)man's agreement that whoever gets nominated will have the full support of all the others, no matter how ugly the Primaries get.

I think the best agreement would be to not let the Dem primaries follow the example of the last GOP primary with all the personal insults, nasty attacks, etc. Stick to policy differences and keep it positive instead of going down the negative path. I realize it's easier to go negative, but I'm sick of negative campaign adds and I think most people are too. That way, they won't look like the bunch of hypocrites the GOPers looked like when they backed Trump after saying horrible (but true) things about him.

Thing is - we can be certain that 2020 and the run-up will have outside interference via Social Media, etc. - from Russia, from China and quite possibly just from groups hired by wealthy donors like the Mercers.
Even the tiniest cracks of non-civility between the candidates will be inflated and combined with falsehoods to make the Nomination look like a bloodfest.
Candidates need to have strong lines of communications between each other, to warn them of hacks/false supporters.
With too many candidates in the field, too much can go wrong.

Not a big surprise: Kamala Harris is running!

What an impressive field: Harris, Gillibrand, Warren, maybe Booker and Klobuchar as well.

(I so hope that Biden and Sanders stay out, though.)

ETA: to be more precise:

2020 field so far.

Announced runs:
Sen. Kamala Harris
Julian Castro
Rep. Tulsi Gabbard
[Former] Rep. John Delaney
Former West Virginia State Senator Richard Ojeda

Announced exploratory committee:
Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand
Sen. Elizabeth Warren

Former West Virginia State Senator Richard Ojeda

I have just been watching him on Michael Moore's documentary. He seems like someone who could beat Trump because he seems like someone who would appeal to the blue-collar rust-belt areas that swung it for Trump.

The Democrats will never let him win though.

And it's only January of '19. That's what inspired my earlier Klown Kar comment, the quantity, not the quality.

I wish Biden wasn't so dang old, and that his son hadn't died.

"But Biden's so old!"

You guys do know Trump is like...72 right? And was the oldest person ever to take the office? If 72 doesn't bother the voters 76 won't. Unless they think the candidate is going to keel over or go senile in the next 4/8 years, they'll vote for them if they like them regardless of age.

Let's address the elephant in the room. The Dems don't want to run Biden because he's an old white man and right now the narrative the Democrats really, really want to write is someone who's not an old white man beating the old white man.

They are gonna put up a symbolic representative for all the disenfranchised groups up there, another woman, probably someone of color-ish (brown but not too brown as they call it in Hollywood), and that's risky.

I hate to be the fuddy-duddy, but I'm highly unimpressed by credentials of "former state senator". A candidate who is apparently under-qualified is not a winning concept.

Well, it is with some people. Not saying that's a good thing, but 2016 proves that a resume that says "I have absolutely no experience!" is a winning concept with a lot of people. Most of those people get their opinions from hate radio, though, apparently.

Probably depressingly accurate. Hopefully said candidate also resonates with people on a less superficial level.

If one lacks credentials, it helps to have name recognition.

More importantly though, 2016 is then, 2020 is now. The country has seen what can happen when a POTUS is ignorant.

You're forgetting about the Republican party's limitless ability to engage in hypocrisy. (Remember, the party that contemned Clinton for sexual misconduct now doesn't care about such things when Trump did them.) I'm sure if Biden became the candidate, any time he sneezes it would result in hours of coverage on Fox news suggesting that he's at death's door and that we need to stick with Trump because his doc said he was so healthy.

Sadly, given the underlying racism that seems to be evident in a large part of the electorate, "old white men" may be the best way to beat Trump.

That's gonna happen regardless. "But the other side is going to be hypocritical about it..." is literally going happen for everything in politics. We can't make decisions based on something that's gonna happen regardless.

And I fear that the Democrats won't do that because it won't "Feel" like a win to them if they do.

Suck it up, nominate an old white guy, put your... what ever the opposite of a "Great White Hope" is in the VP spots, and get actual practical real world victory instead of another loss that makes you feel warm and fuzzy about keeping the moral highground.

And hell if you give people 4 or 8 years to get used the younger, not so white, not so penised person they might have a solid chance in 2024/2028. And if they are already skewing younger that gives you a good dynasty.
