This. All of the regulations "holding back" the finance sector were put in place for very good reasons. It seems we'll have to relearn those lessons every few generations.

From the moment it occurred until the present day, there are still a substantial number of people that never learned from the Great Depression, and never will.

People didn't learn from the 2008 great recession let alone the Great Depression of the 30s.

It's a strange time in the world where disinformation is as plentiful as facts. Every day, Trump accuses the press of printing 'fake news' and people decide to believe what they want to believe.

Will be having lunch in White House residence with large group concerning Border Security.

Hard to say. The moment Trump was elected, the US was pretty much guaranteed to be ******, so bad. Still, Short-term, though, we'd likely end up better off with impeachment. Long-term... it's sad, but we might be better off with another deep recession slamming it home to the more right-wing people that much of what they support is ******* stupid and helping to prevent politicians from repeating it for the nth time, after causing significant harm every time. That's just dealing with the economy, though. It's hard to predict exactly what the Orange Outrager is going to target to **** up and how much ability he would have to do so with this incoming House.

Your optimism is touching, but you yourself explain why it is hopeless.

Those people will never, ever admit that anything they or the politicians they support has ever been wrong or caused any problems.

As you say, they have demonstrated this over and over again.

It will always be the Dems or the 'leebrals' fault.

Always.

The only thing that can possibly work, in their brains (such as they are), is what they have tried n times. Only more and harder.

Because trying the same thing over and over ... expecting a different result ... is the hallmark of the conservative mind.

And something else, I've heard.

Chicago School economics, which became the orthodoxy with Thatcher and Reagan, is an exercise in unlearning. Those who did learn from the 30's turned to a Keynesian approach in 2008, which prevented a repeat.

On Syria, we were originally going to be there for three months, and that was seven years ago - we never left. When I became President, ISIS was going wild. Now ISIS is largely defeated and other local countries, including Turkey, should be able to easily take care of whatever remains. We’re coming home!

I notice he left Russia out this time.

Reckon he got some flack about that in his last tweet about it?

I am in the White House, working hard. News reports concerning the Shutdown and Syria are mostly FAKE. We are negotiating with the Democrats on desperately needed Border Security (Gangs, Drugs, Human Trafficking & more) but it could be a long stay.

If the news reports about the shutdown are Fake, does that mean there really isn't a shutdown?

Not sure where it fits on those economic theories, however one lesson of the great Depression is broad-mercantilism tariff approaches are dangerous. For example, Smoot-Hawley.

Weird that he inserted "mostly." Or somebody did.

"Largely defeated"? Didn't he say that they had been defeated?
Again with the qualifier.

I didn't really think that there were people who didn't learn from the Depression. It was the formative experience for a pretty tough generation of folks.

Agree on 2008, not on the '30s.

I'm not sure everyone understands that the stock market has almost nothing to do with foundational wealth or the health of the economy. It's largely about how lucky/confident people feel. I think people who survived the 1930s understand that but we are quickly losing those folks.

I understand and appreciate your point, but it is a gross overstatement. They are unquestionably interrelated.
