Isn't it ultimately up to him how harshly he gets punished? And that the prosecutions recommendations are not binding (given, it would be awkward to diverge too much from those recommendations but it seems to me he could still put him behind bars for a long time)

Nope. Prosecutors choose what they will charge you with and judges must sentence the guilty parties within guidelines taking into account previous criminal offenses. The guidelines basically force the judge to sentence Flynn from 0 to 6 months. I'm pretty sure the judge must stay within those guidelines. Now perhaps, he could sentence him beyond that, but it would open his ruling to being overturned on appeal.

Here is an interesting take for why Sullivan spazzed right the **** out this morning:

"I'm not saying you can't plead guilty to a crime you didn't commit - people do that all the time for a variety of reasons. But you can't *say* that you are doing it, because part of the plea process is admitting that you are pleading because you are actually guilty."

Gee, Covington ****** up and the Judge went to crazy town.

If by "interesting take" you mean "desperate take"?

Sure, I guess.

Correct me if I'm wrong. I'd hate to interrupt a spittle tossing rant, but did the judge actually claim Flynn was a traitor? I seem to have read that he asked if he could have been charged with it. Perhaps I'm wrong?

Yep. But the judge walked those comments back. However, it was clear the judge thought Flynn's actions were treasonous although not meeting the legal definition of treason.

Are you just quoting Trump or are you agreeing or adding your own nonsense to the post?

Could people please clarify which are words they are quoting and which are not and what they do or don't think are valid things to say or not? A couple of quote tags "" go a long way.

It's all trump.

SG has a good point though. Quote tags and proper punctuation go a long way in clarifying who is saying what and cut down on misunderstandings.

He can give Flynn the max penalty for lying to the FBI if he wants, but that's about it.

Understood but that still provides him with some discretion/latitude of giving 6 months instead of the no jail time recommended. I'm really hoping for a 6 month sentence.

I've never tried writing in baby talk. Let's see how this goes...

Poow wittew Genwa Mikey. Da meanies at EpBI made him tew wies. Genwa Mikey dudnt know its naughty to tew wies. When Genwa Mikey tew wies, he hab his finners cwossed. No count. Da Judge is a bad bad meanie. He was mean to Genwa Mikey. I no like da judge. I want daddy Twump to make it all beddew.

Add: I was verbalizing, to help me spell the words. My daughter walked by and looked at me strangely indeed.

He can do DEFINITELY DO THAT. However, that would clearly be ignoring the Government's recommendation. I think he was prepared to do that today given what he learned. But a lot of this is theater. And by delaying the sentencing he keeps Flynn's feet to the fire assuring that Flynn will continue to be cooperative.

Yup. As I said above, I have no idea why he's suddenly become this huge injustice that needs ranting about. He's been dishing the dirt on Trump. Everybody involved, from Mueller, to Flynn's lawers, to Flynn all agree that he's given Mueller "substantial assistance". The judge reiterated that today.

The way Flynn has acted is bad news for Trump. Very bad news.

This honeymoon period will not last. Just like Michael "rat" Cohen's didn't.

Any Trump supporters still defending Flynn just engage your brain for a second - Flynn has acted in exactly the same way that Cohen did. If one of them is a bad person because of it, then the other is, too.

I said this the other day. Giuliani and Trump were trying to obstruct justice. Not-very-subtle messages to Flynn to "stay the course" and not get called a "rat". The scuttlebutt behind the scenes for the last week, largely passed along by Giuliani having soto voce conversations in elevators, was that Flynn would withdraw his guilty plea. This is why Sullivan was so forceful in asking him repeatedly if he was still pleading guilty. The Keystone Kops of the legal world were trying to send Flynn messages that they had his back and that lovely retirement villa in the Crimea was still his if he carried Trumpy's oversized blue tie out onto the battlefield.

If there wasn't so much other crap to nail them on, Mueller could just add his Twitter performance to the reams of documentation on their attempts to subourn witnesses and obstruct justice. Read every defense-of-Flynn Tweet with a "wink wink nudge nudge, get my meaning, General, wink wink nudge nudge".
