I think the base line to this is -- which I have a feeling we are eventually going to get to -- is Trump got Russian financing since at least the mid-2000s and at least some of the funds were money that is traceable back to the billions of dollars embezzled by various Russian officials from the Russian public. The long-term consequences of that probably keeps Putin awake at night. (Luckily for Vlad he lives in a non-functioning democracy. But you never know.)
Anyway, Trump owes a lot of Russians a lot of money, plus he wants to continue to borrow and he's eager to do some "deals" in ole Russkiya. What do the Russians (the Russian government) want? Call off the sanctions and assurances the Trump administration will look the other way when Russians are up to various forms of mischief. Unfortunately for Vlad, he's hooked his wagon to a guy who has a talent for self-destructing.
But when we get to that point the Trumpers will undoubtedly argue:
'k. So what? Not much of an argument but it's all they'll have left. Heck there are still lots of people who profess, Nixon did nothing wrong. He got screwed over big time. If the president does it it's legal, ain't it?
