You aren't thinking petty enough. He was going to greet a former holder of his current office, who was being gracious enough to invite him to a ceremonial function he certainly didn't deserve a seat at. Someone with class would have discarded as many of the trappings of office as they could, but for Trump it meant FULL PRESIDENTIAL MODE, no matter how short of a trip it would be.

He needs to reinforce to everyone, and most importantly himself, that he is the POTUS. The full trappings feed that ego of "Look at me! Look at me! Me be prezzydunt!"

Remember when he said he would release them? And then the lame ass excuse of why he wasn't?

It would be a massive shift for the court to allow Trump to refuse the subpoena. This question has arisen on 3 separate occasions in the past and not a single justice has ever voted to support any of the previous President's arguments. Not Jefferson, not Nixon 8-0 (Rehnquist absteining), not Clinton 9-0.

It's all about definitions: Asking Trump to answer questions under oath is called a Perjury Trap and asking Trump to provide relevant documents is a Fishing Expedition. Indicting people related to Trump is a Witch Hunt and the guy who can shovel the most horse **** using only these definitions is the Stable Genius.
