What Trump is grateful for this Thanksgiving:

This just emphasized, once again, the extent of Trump's narcissism. He's thanking himself.
I had to laugh when I read the bit about foreign leaders saying they can't believe the difference in strength. Does anyone believe any foreign leader has ever said anything even remotely like that to Trump? I do believe they've said they can't believe the difference in the US now and two years ago...but it wasn't meant as a compliment. God knows I can't believe it, either.
I can easily imagine MBS or Putin blowing that sort of smoke up his ass in the act of playing him.

On some level, his dictatorial buddies might even believe it. After all, Trump's mix of financial corruption, sociopathy, and ability to do and say what he wants without consequence is right up their ideological alley.

There's a scene late in the "Girl With the Dragon Tattoo" trilogy where overwhelming evidence,
presented at Lisbeth Salander's murder trial, suddenly convinces everyone in the courtroom that she is the victim of a monstrous conspiracy by a twisted cabal to get her declared insane.
It's cathartic.

Foolishly perhaps, I wonder if the rug will be pulled out beneath Trump as his supporters, in the face of growing evidence, realize they've been played for chumps by a purely self-serving swindler who thinks they're too stupid to notice. Not all of them, because he will always have the KKK vote, but enough of them to severely damage his approval rating and make his allies in Congress sweat.

Will there be a last straw, for decent people (yes, there are some) who voted for Trump? I know they are out there. But I've given up speculating on what the tipping point might be.

They dictators like him because they think he's making the U.S. weaker. So I doubt if they believe his claims that he's made it stronger.

On the other hand, he might inadvertently make America stronger by showing that our checks and balances work as designed.

I can. As long as those leaders were either A) buttering him up or B) actually talking about how much worse he's made the USA's soft power in the world. Either one is plausible.

No. The Republicans in Congress have already clearly shown that our checks and balances are increasingly NOT working as designed right now and that they're quite willing to further undermine them for very short-term "gains." If they're restored, reversing some of the damage, America would arguably be stronger than we would have been. The damage is being done anyways, though, and it's going to be a long haul to undo it, if it even can be undone.

Most oil-fired ships were not diesel. They used boilers, generally 1200 lbs for cruisers, destroyers and frigates in more modern times.

The last conventional steam carrier was the Kennedy, retired several years ago. The 1200 lb cruisers, destroyers and frigates were all decommissioned in the 90s. None of the ships of the line were diesels.

ETA: I was Boilers Officer on a 1200 lb cruiser that was commissioned in the 1960s.4 Babcock-Wilcox D-type boilers, F-76 oil fuel.

RN had diesel ships 'of the line' from the 50s onwards Type 12 Blackwood Class, Type 41 Leopard class AA, Type 61 Salisbury class Air Direction frigates were all diesel.

From the late 50 all steam powered ships were fuelled with diesel to simplify replenishment at sea. Tankers only needed one bunker fuel type.

HMS Fearless an Assault Ship was the last steam powered ship to retire from the RN in 2002.

Trump tweets

"Our highly trained security professionals are not allowed to do their job on the Border because of the Judicial Activism and Interference by the 9th Circuit. Nevertheless, they are working hard to make America a safer place, though hard to do when anybody filing a lawsuit wins!"

Pity he didn't know about this is the past, he could have won in all the court cases he lost or settled.

The American Bar Association has unsurprisingly taken a dim view of trump's comments about the 9th circuit courts:

Disagreeing with a court’s decision is everyone’s right, but when government officials question a court’s motives, mock its legitimacy or threaten retaliation due to an unfavorable ruling, they intend to erode the court’s standing and hinder the courts from performing their constitutional duties,”

And George Conway has provided some stats that suggest trump's quoted statistics about the 9th circuit are misleading

In addition, Steve Vladek, in that article, tweets:
Once again, over the last five Terms, three federal appeals courts have been reversed by #SCOTUS in a higher percentage of cases than the Ninth Circuit:

1) Third Circuit (12/13 = 92%)
2) Sixth Circuit (26/31 = 84%)
3) Eleventh Circuit (18/22 = 82%)
4) Ninth Circuit (48/60 = 80%)

Surprised that trump has served up misleading information? Of course not. As always, he leaves out important context in order to feed his supporters some anger.

His 'jokes' about the 9th circuit at the turkey pardoning ceremony were anything but. smh.

Dammit, now I have that Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum song in my head

I, in war the most admired,
In wit the most inspired,
In love the most desired,
In dress the best displayed--
I am a parade!

I almost forgot. There is one more thing he is excellent at:

“I am actually humble. I think I’m much more humble than you would understand.”

Just another example of the complete abandonment of values and principles.

Look at him. He is just there tolerating the fondling by these grifters. It is all a show for dough. No one really gives a **** about their fellow man in the religion of supply-side Jesus. Trump stands for nothing but ingorance and self interest. Of course its a bad world if the leader of the democratic free world doesn’t give a **** anymore. Sure America has many times failed to live up to the values it once espoused but this is just giving up.

I believe that, yes, this is Mitch McConnell's plan: to give Trump all the rope he could possibly want to hang himself and his henchmen in such an obvious fashion that the Trump base will return into the GOP mainstream once The Donald is utterly discredited. That is why McConnell is giving Trump every opportunity to sack Mueller and Rosenstein.

This must have been taken quite some time ago.... that's Michael Cohen just behind Der Trumpenführer

It could also be this bit of news... the CIA has a recording of the Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman ordering Jamal Khashoggi to be silenced.
