I treat emails like conversations sometimes. I slipped into that mode here and there were a number of comments on his memorandum and performance so I just responded without quoting one. The antecedent is the guy in the thread title (or it was in my ranting internal dialogue when I typed that).

trump should almost always be held as an example of what not to do, rather than a rationalisation for doing something you really know you shouldn't be doing.

trump will eventually be gone. Some time within the next few years. It will take a lot longer for the US to rid itself of the poison that his influence has caused to sink so deeply into the nation's consciousness. In my view, resisting the temptation to behave as contemptibly as trump does, or behave contemptibly in response to trump, is important.

I think that you are being too hard on yourself. It's your country, too. This way you can stand your ground and maybe make a difference. And a majority of voters agree with you - although the size of Trump's minority is beyond alarming; it is it also makes me want to flee.

I have no new house, no debt and within a couple of years will have few responsibilities here in the U.S. I even have a job credential that might help me emigrate.

Maybe 2020 will be the year.

Saudi Arabia is the country most responsible for the 9/11 attacks. Not Afghanistan, and certainly not Iraq. So they not only get off Scot free, but we have multiple presidents kissing their Wahabi asses because of oil and money. Murder an American resident? And when, in a few years, the Saudis will be using all those lovely American weapons they're buying to destroy Israel, the American right will be just fine with that because, you know, it'll bring on the second coming.

To be clear the US funded and trained bin Laden. Saudi money funded and Saudi clerics and wahhabism inspired Al qaeda and ISIS. Shia muslims are subject to terrorist attacks by Saudi funded extremists, far more have been killed than US citizens. Iran fought along side US forces in Iraq to defeat ISIS. Hezbollah has always denied carrying out terrorist attacks against the US and expresses no intentions of doing so in the future. Even the alleged terrorist attacks against US in Lebanon were more than 30 years ago, with no alleged since. Iran has been subject to terrorist attacks by US client states such as Israel, frank invasion by the US client state Iraq, direct military provocation by US naval forces sailing in to Iranian territorial waters, including the shooting down of a civilian airliner with the responsible CO being awarded a medal.

Compare Saudi and Iran. Which country elects its head of state? Which country makes churches and christian worship illegal and which country recognises and give special legal protection to christians and churches. Which country locks people up to extort money from them, kidnaps and tortures and murders journalists.

Israel a nuclear power has directly threatened Iran and threatened to destroy it and is committed to the overthrow of the Iranian government. Israel a US client carries out and funds continual terrorist attacks in Iran.

Whilst Iran has many faults, looking at things if I was Iranian, I would think why do we get all the blame when we have done so little; how does Saudi get away with so much. We can do nothing right, we agree to stop development of nuclear weapon technology and even that seems to be a bad thing. If the US wanted a deal on missile technology why not negotiate on that? All Iran sees is hostility, even when they are key to defeating Saudi inspired / funded terrorist movements such as ISIS.

These deals dip **** is selling his soul for don't actually exist. There are no orders. Not only that, the Saudis have to buy from us. They can't just start shopping the Russians.

Imagine Russia and China are Sony and make Play Stations and the US and Europe/NATO are Microsoft and make Xbox. If you've been an Xbox person your whole life, bought the Xbox, the 360 and now the Xbox One. You have a bunch of games and accessories for the Xbox. Your old games still work on your new systems and you've got the flight controls, driving controls and shooting accessories for the Xbox. Not only that, you have a bunch of online friends on Xbox you play with. You can't suddenly, up in one day decide I'm going to switch to Play Station. Everything you bought over your life of being an Xbox guy won't work on your new system. None of your online friends can play with you because you switched to Play Station.

The Saudis can't just up and be a Russian/China client. That would be a years long transition, and while you're converting, Iran is on the other side of the Gulf waiting for you to come online so they can **** you up in Grand Theft Auto. Oh and don't forget the people who would come online and help you against Iran, are all still on Xbox.

Hell, he wouldn't even go to the White House Correspondents Association dinner because he was afraid of being laughed at. Now that they propose having a lecturer instead of a comedian, he's considering it.

Well, here's a random article covering Trump's unease with even seeing blood, as stated by him on the Howard Stern show years ago. Sounds a bit related.

Oh, and as a separate matter.... Trump's for-profit businesses raked in $4.2 million from Republican campaigns during 2018 cycle. The biggest contributor being Trump's campaign, of course.
 
I miss having a president who could string together three sentences without grammatical and punctuation errors.

Then again, I also miss logic. President Trump in May 2018 “Your Second Amendment rights are under siege, but they will never, ever be under siege as long as I’m your president.”

Not defending Trump, but based on the reports I think “ordered” is too strong a word here.

In part...

(italics mine)

It’s really more like he pressed a desire to order something, and then backed down “on the advice of counsel”.

Bad enough, but short of actually ordering something.

There's a long theory that I haven't fully looked at and don't have time to detail here that he's getting money from the Saudis in exchange for services rendered, such as backing out of the Iran deal. That would be option 4, with 5 being "all of the above".
