Well, if nothing else, I can genuinely believe he wrote it himself. I mean, perhaps someone went over it afterwards to correct the spelling, grammar, and punctuation, but I can believe that he authored it himself.
No, he might have repeated the sentiment, but someone else wrote that.

It's a moot point, Trump would have written it had he been more articulate and had he had more Middle East facts in his head.

I never wrote this poorly. Trump should never write his own stuff. This is embarrassing.

The first three ideas are introduced thusly:

  • As an example
  • On the other hand
  • Additionally
That's the skill level of his 'only the best people'.

I think he might have written the first draft and handed it over to an adult. Or someone tried to emulate his style.

Or he dictated it in his usual rabling style, it was then made somewhat sane, coherent and grammatically sound, handed back to Trump for inane input that soothes his ego, re-edited then uploaded.

Translation of Trumpanese Letter to the world:

Propaganda... propaganda... Iran bad... propaganda... propaganda... Saudi Arabia good rich... propaganda... propaganda... propaganda...
Mohammad bin Salman innocent... propaganda... propaganda... propaganda... Rah rah USA.

The end.

Sorry, I don't usually do fixed-that-for-you strikeouts, but this was too tempting.

It's kind of bad that he didn't say "Mohammad bin Salman innocent." He just said it doesn't matter whether MBS is innocent or not.

I share your suspicions. There are three plausible explanations that occur to me:

1. He's a blithering idiot. He actually believes the drivel he spouts about the financial gains for the country.
2. His ego is deeply invested in "the art of the deal". The fact that "the deal" is by and large BS doesn't matter. Maintaining the illusion is more important than disrupting the relationship. (See Kim/NK)
3. They have dirt on him. (See Putin?)
4. Some combination of the above.
I'll suggest another : Trump doesn't want to tarnish the memory of his visit to Saudi Arabia, so (as ever) he believes what brings him comfort. I'm sure we all remember how the Saudis buttered him up, and how heavily he fell for it. What with that and his personal chemistry with MBS, he simply will not believe he got him wrong. That would bring him discomfort, and Trump does not believe things which discomfort him.

As we ponder the possibilities, we must be mindful that today's proclamation on SA is/was obviously going to be explosive politically, and that's a hit he was willing to take.
I doubt he realised it was going to be a thing.

Trump's direct input probably amounts to the exclamation marks. They probably allowed him some for fear of a tantrum.

Which is an indirect way of saying MBS is innocent, innocent based on Trump's scale of measurement.

Trump's Scale of Measurement™ is based on what degree of use (to Trump) does the individual in question serve (to Trump).

Let's be perfectly honest here: If MBS (and Saudia Arabia) served no purpose (to Trump), MBS would be declared firmly by Trump as "guilty". He'd be screeching "guilty!" (and a new nickname for MBS) all over the twitterverse.

Thanksgiving dinner is going to be a very frosty affair in the White House. The first bimbo just outmaneuvered her husband to get his deputy national security advisor fired. His feckless **** daughter just did the thing he said he would lock up Hillary for. His son-in-law spread his leg to the Saudi crown prince and now he's backed into a corner. Maybe the head of Barron's detail will take him in the back yard and throw a football with him to keep him from seeing the fireworks at dinner. The one awesome thing is that with the exception of Baron, it's fun to know they're all suffering.

Trump, in this case, is actually being far more candid than most politicians would be. We value the relationship with SA more than we do the life of some reporter. Similar trade-offs are probably made almost literally every day.

As he said re Putin, "You think our country is so innocent?"

His numbers, though. Pants on Fire per Politifact.

More that House Democrats can do:

Former CIA Director John Brennan called on lawmakers to declassify the intelligence agency’s findings in the assassination of journalist Jamal Khashoggi.

“Since Mr. Trump excels in dishonesty, it is now up to members of Congress to obtain & declassify the CIA findings on Jamal Khashoggi’s death,” Brennan tweeted Tuesday.

“No one in Saudi Arabia—most especially the Crown Prince—should escape accountability for such a heinous act,” he continued.

Linky.

Do you think this first family is like the rest of us or any of the first families that preceded it? That they all sit down for a big thanksgiving dinner together? Somehow I doubt it.

Also, you forgot that his son Don Jr. is expecting to be indicted for lying to the FBI and Congress.

No, Thanksgiving was kind of a metaphor. The Trumps are less than human so I don't expect they do human things. I would still like to see Baron shielded from the worst of what is to come.

I doubt the Don spawn is going to be indicted right now. I can't imagine Mueller being so naïve as to indict the spawn of Trump on federal charges. I think New York will indict him (remembering that U.S. presidential elections are thousands of county elections reported to the states). I expect Trump's spawn violated New York law and will pursued that way.

It's not that I think they aren't human. Just that the family seems dysfunctional and not normal. Sr is so desperate for affirmation that it had to damage the offspring in so many ways. Can you imagine Melania making a Thanksgiving dinner And everyone watching football?

I can't imagine Mueller indicting Jr either although he clearly committed the crime. No, next on Mueller's list is probably Stone.
