I can't recommend reading this statement enough. It is astounding.

:jaw-dropp

Alright, there is a lot to process there and comment on, but I'm going to start with something small.

What style standards are the White House using? Who, pardon the phrase, the ever-loving ****, is working at the White House? The formatting alone wouldn't be acceptable in documents I make that are non-controlled and for reference only, let alone for official communications outside the company. And that's for automotive manufacturing industry internal documents, not even press releases. Five of eight paragraphs end with an exclamation point.

Should...should I send them an application? I mean, my job isn't even centered around such things but I do have a BA in English. It's just embarrassing to read those things and I would honestly suffer working for those people if just to raise the level of communication just a bit sometimes.

I wrote kinda like that as a teenage high school student.

I never wrote this poorly. Trump should never write his own stuff. This is embarrassing.

The first three ideas are introduced thusly:

  • As an example
  • On the other hand
  • Additionally

I’ll say it yet again...

I know quite a few Trump supporters who are quite intelligent and well read.

Which, while I find perplexing, still works against the “dumb Trump supporter” stereotype.

Smart people tend to be good at finding smart sounding reasons to justify things they came to support for very 'not smart' reasons.

Self-reporting is a poor way to find out such things.

Weird. I seriously wonder why. He hasn't changed so why are they?

It could be a combination of perception, momentum, and tipping points.

Before there were a lot of vocal supporters of him and thus social pressure (for that sub-group) to either support Trump, or at the very least not be vocal in your opposition. Apart from the normal social pressure mechanisms, there are career risks picking the wrong fights and in some sad cases in the military, risks of physical harms.

Then things add up. People feel safer to express more limited criticisms of specific things. 'I don't like dems, but attacking McCain again is wrong.' Those criticisms are let to pass, which makes people feel safer to express other ones. Then it's thinkable to not support him. Then it's thinkable to oppose him. Then it's thinkable to express opposition of him. It builds up in a way where the measurements of it show all at once.

Just because it's detectable suddenly does not mean it occurred suddenly. It certainly doesn't make it traceable to one factor or incident.

That story about Trump being scared to visit war zones is obviously some kind of palace intrigue press leakage. I don't know whether its true or not, but the journos running with it are carrying water for someone in the administration with a grudge.

*Here's my obligatory lament about the juvenile name-calling in the USA politics subforum.

So now stating what Trump is is "juvenile name calling?"

The POTUS has just given a green l ight for any dictatorship which Trump; considers frentkly to commit murder.
He shows he does not give a damn about what US Intelligence agencies say.
He has just shown he will always put money ahead of common decency.
This is going to end in disaster. I am now more convinced then every that this will end in Trump getting gus involved in war..probably with Iran.

Fixed it for you:
The POTUS has just given a green l ight for any dictatorship which Trump; considers frentkly to commit murder.
He shows he does not give a damn about what US Intelligence agencies say.
He has just shown he will always put money, much of which is a figment of his imagination, ahead of common decency.
This is going to end in disaster. I am now more convinced then every that this will end in Trump getting gus involved in war..probably with Iran.

Well, if nothing else, I can genuinely believe he wrote it himself. I mean, perhaps someone went over it afterwards to correct the spelling, grammar, and punctuation, but I can believe that he authored it himself.

I don't, not one jab at the washington post while talking about the murder of one of their fake news "reporters".

It sounds like he had a strong hand in it, but he let people talk him into moderating his statements and not attacking all his enemies in it.

King Salman and Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman vigorously deny any knowledge of the planning or execution of the murder of Mr. Khashoggi. Our intelligence agencies continue to assess all information, but it could very well be that the Crown Prince had knowledge of this tragic event – maybe he did and maybe he didn’t!

Putin fiasco 2.0. Looks like Trump is in not only Putin's pocket, but in the Saudis' pocket, too.
He's more concerned with keeping those arm sales contracts than common decency. Oh, wait. What was I thinking? Silly me.

I'd just like to point out that the state US politics is in at the moment means that there's a report that the US secretary of state hand-delivered a plan to a hostile foreign power to help them cover up the murder and dismemberment of a US citizen, and it has passed entirely without comment after being posted in this thread. Are we really that numb to it all now?

"Resident." Working on citizenship, but not quite there yet. And... yes. That we are is a sure sign that Trump and probably his entire staff should never have been put there.

GOod fix,The arms sales to Saudi is not nearly as impotent as Donnie likes to say.
It' another sign of one of Trump most dangerous traits; He sympathy for authoritarian dictatorships.
Not to mention that his seeming desire to keep money out of the hands of the Russians and/or Chinese is both petty and misguided. The Saudis have been training on and utilizing US equipment for too long for such a changeover to happen overnight.

One could even argue that if US military intervention was ever required against Saudi Arabia, we'd be far better off if their US equipment was worn out and they were using potentially inferior equipment sourced elsewhere.

The arms contracts that were offered, but mostly never agreed to? Or Obama-era ones?

And the rank stupidity that has resulted in this monstrous press release! Its primary reason for being issued is that the CIA findings were leaked. Under any intelligent administration in which there might be a desire to place realpolitik above the murder of an American resident, the CIA would be on the president's side (because s/he wouldn't be constantly, publicly disrespecting them) and they'd probably be willing to not only keep their findings to themselves but even put out enough disinformation to muddy the waters.

Everything Trump says and does makes the entire executive branch less effective and, of course, leaves it with zero credibility.

Trump is a moron. He's lazy and ignorant and think he's smarter than everyone around him. He lies to cover up his ignorance and the really stupid part of that is that makes him look even dumber.

My impression is a little different. I don't think Trump is trying to be accurate or represent reality to the best of his ability. I think he is motivated mostly by what works politically, in the moment, or in terms of public relations, or what works to bully his opponents. Whether what he says is true or not is beside the point. He's not a moron because he's not trying to get a good score on the IQ test, he's trying to force the proctor into not turning in his score or bullying the proctor into into filling the correct answers for him.
