True, and I still do not understand this at all. Some of this obsequious behavior must come from fear of Trump's influence on the core Republican right-wing nutter voter base, a fear that perhaps might diminish a bit now after the midterms have demonstrated that Trump's endorsement is not always a plus....

Check out the way Putin reined in the Russian oligarchs.

It's similar.

That's why I think that when the time comes, Trump's support is going to collapse.

Any of his allies with any semblance of an ego will despise him. As soon as it's in their interest, they'll enjoy kicking him, and as soon as one starts to abandon him, the arithmetic for the remaining support changes.

I also fully expect him to get progressively more unhinged as things go wrong for him especially in the house. I'm sure enough of his base like him acting like a winning bully, but a humiliated bully is not such cool look.

If Trump's fawning performance with Putin in Helsinki, where he said he believed Putin over his own intelligence agencies and where Putin explicitly said he wanted Trump to be President, wasn't enough to wake up his supporters, it's hard to imagine what would.

That is my expectation too. Once he is finally perceived as weak enough all the smoldering resentments will come out and his smiling "friends" will turn on him big time.

Watch for Republicans setting up presidential campaigns over the next several months. They'll need to be pulling in big money and campaigning by the summer at the very latest if any of them are serious about pulling the nomination away from the sitting president.

FWIW, I've not seen a primary source on this, but I've seen it alleged that Trump's answers to Mueller's questions will mostly consist of quotes that are already in the public domain. I'd guess that his lawyers will be doing so in the hopes that this will avoid any contradictions.

And this would be a way to validate the claim that he answered all the questions by himself.

Like when a troop of chimps spot that the alpha male is weak, then they rip him to shreds and even eat his flesh?

I live in hope :D

Alpha males can be more complex than that and can even "retire"

Well, Trump, you ******* dunce, Iran might not be as big a security challenge if you hadn't made blowing up our improving relationship with them one of your top priorities.
Trump will never understand that the US has no actual beef with Iran. In fact, the US could disengage entirely from the Middle East at no significant strategic or economic cost.

TL:DR verion, Whitaker has been legally required to file two public disclosure of finance reports with the Department of Justice (first in February, then in May), who must then allow anybody who asks in writing to inspect them. They have ignored repeated requests for this, and there is currently no evidence that Whitaker has actually filed any.
If Trump's plan for stifling the Mueller investigation depends on Whitaker's insertion as AG, we can rest assured he has no sensible plan at all.

It depends on how quickly and completely he can do it. Until the next House session starts, there is no evidence that Congress will lift a pinky finger to prevent Trump from doing anything he wants.

Trump can only act through legitimate agents : Whitaker's legitimacy is questionable. Then there's Whitaker's association with a company that scammed veterans, which probably never came up in conversations about the Mueller investigation - an entirely unrelated matter, very unjust, but why bring it up?

White House SNAFU.

Trump can act through anyone he chooses, if nobody steps up to stop him.

Just ask Robert Bork's decaying corpse.
