Cont: The Trump Presidency X: 10-10 'til we do it again

Time for the Republicans to move their Red Line again...

Next stop: Trump declaring Martial Law.

I thought that when I was young and Nixon the crook was POTUS. I was wrong.

Then when people started saying it when GW Bush was starting a needless war, I was older and wiser and said no way. I was right.

But this time? I really don't know how far this thing is going to go but I wish to hell it would get over with.

Just please let it not be the new normal.
As opposed to a lickspittle legislative branch that kowtows before their MAGA emperor? Is that the normal you would prefer? I don't mean to sound snarky, just want to know why you hope checks and balances - which, face it, are sometimes adversarial - should not be the new normal.

I've clearly misunderstood the conversation. The lack of checks and balances being the new normal is what I was concerned about.

CNN calls the accusation fraudulent and says SHS is lying, ending with:

Here is a video of the interaction for the world to see:

Sarah Huckabee Sanders's response:

We stand by our decision to revoke this individual’s hard pass. We will not tolerate the inappropriate behavior clearly documented in this video.

Linky.

Utterly bananas. Remember how funny the Spicer and inauguration bit was?

ETA: The video Sanders posted was actually doctored by InfoWars. Astounding.

This video is doctored. It's slowed down and then sped up at the moment Acosta's hand comes down to make it look like he's doing a karate chop or something. This is shameful propaganda. It's Orwellian.

Linky.

Incidentally, InfoWars is banned from Twitter.

Jim Acosta can take his lumps; getting banned by the Trump White House might actually be a good career move. But it's not a scandal, not yet, anyway. IMO the media should pick its battles with Trump, or else the media becomes the story. To me it's an easy call that Acosta did nothing terribly wrong, and it's bogus his credentials got blocked, but any story will be reported soon enough. The press does not take lightly to such slights and this could hurt Trump. Meanwhile it's fine for news agencies to stick up for Acosta, but in fact any reporter can pick up the plot.

Even if Acosta hit the press aide, why would the Trump administration care? He only hit a woman.

I can't see the difference between two versions. I would have to see it side by side

Sincerely, why would Trump have hired him if he wasn't willing to cover for Trump?

I agree that Trump thinks that Whitaker will jump on the grenade for him.

But remember that he was isolated from the Mueller probe so far, so he doesn't know in how much doo-doo the Trump clan really is in, and how little the AG can actually do to help, given how much Mueller has outsourced parts of the investigation.
So even if Whitaker risks prison for Trump by obstructing Mueller and leaking material, he might not be able to prevent Don Jr. or others from being indicted.

From what I've seen of Whitaker, he clearly is a fanatic, but he is also a survivor: I don't think he would go down with the DV Trump.

I watched the press briefing, and when trump walked off at the end chatting with Pence, i was just imagining him saying "get rid of Acosta"

It's worth watching (or reading the transcript of) that whole briefing if you can stand to listen to trump speak. He virtually never answers the questions he's being asked, and I was hoping the reporters would actually press him more to answer them. Some did try, but trump usually ended up shouting over them. I certainly got the impression that Acosta and similar organisations were deliberately trying to badger him and it worked.

When the reporter from Japan asked him a question and he asked where the reporter was from, trump replied 'say hello to Shinzo for me'. So odd. I translated that as "i know who Japan is, i know who Japan is". The reporter from Lebanon did not get the same kind of response from trump and you can decide for yourself what that might mean.

As usual it was a rambling mess. trump's "impeach him" soliloquy was absolutely bizarre.

I wonder how the intern feels about all this. She may not be a hardcore trump supporter, and the incident was very minor. She may not like getting used as a pawn in Stubby McBonespurs game with the media.
